I believe they are the same
Hi guys, I'm a new Definitive Tech speaker owner and I gotta say I really like them so far. I used to have Aperion Audio, but I always felt like something was missing despite the awesome reviews, so I went to Pauls TV today in Artvan and got:
Mythos 5 (x2)
Supercube III
and a Mythos 7 center
for about 1800.00
Is that a good deal? They were open box tho

Further more I listen to the same CD on another system and heard the same distortion...so it's in the mix. I think the Def Tech's just reveil it more...

I will soon finish out my HT and wonder if anyone here is using a Def Tech center speaker with a powered sub (2300, 2500, or newer) placed inside of an entertainment center. If so, how much room is needed around the speaker for it to sound good?

This is the sort of entertainment center I'm thinking of-

Nice setup, have you looked at BDI furniture? They sell some pretty top notch stereo/tv furniture units. I was thinking about getting the NOIR series II. Sick of seeing all the wires behind my tv.

Depends on what center speaker you get. You can find the specs on Def Tech's website. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of these or not, especially with Def Tech's since the centers are so large, powered subs, etc. Salamander Designs are very solid too.

Here is my setup. This stand has the mount for the LCD and my bp2300 just slides right under the monitor. Not much space for equipment but I don't have much or do plan to buy anymore. It does have storage on the sides for blu ray or DVD or CDs which ever you prefer. It is solid wood and glass shelves. I bought from sams wholesale for $225.

as far as subwoofer, what is your budget? how big is your room? is the room open to other rooms ? is your preference music or home theater ?

Thanks for confirming the question of the center.

Room is medium size but 2 story ceiling open to uostairs hallway and open on kne side to hallway and in the back to the kitchen.

Somehow this amazing Energy mini sub has produced strong and quality low end but the fam member needs a sub so Id like to give them it as long as the new ine I get is an upgrade so Im tempted to stick with Energy after getting a bad DT supercube once with the buzzing problem that many had.

Preference is HT.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm not set on the exact ent. center pictured. I just used it to illustrate the type with a spot for a center channel within the cabinet.
Did you ever try the center on the shelf?

I'm wondering about vibrations, noise from the sub made by rattling parts of the ent. center and any degredation of sound quality from being in an enclosure.

No I put it under the LCD. I don't have it wired to the sub output. I just use speaker wired. I would imagine you could experience some vibration depending on the type of entertainment center you choose. DT recommends only 1" of Clearance for the sub on top.

Just wondering what opinions some of you would have about this setup in a 20x20 room with 9 foot ceilings.

Fronts - BP8B
Center - CLR 2002
Surrounds - BP1.2x
Rears - Studio Monitor 350

Still looking at a subwoofer.

Looking at the Onkyo NR708 to drive it all.

Thanks for your opinions.

Thanks so much. The 1" clearance comment was exactly the sort of thing I was looking to hear.

You may want to be a little more specific about what your connection is on the Center Channel. Because using speaker wire will still use the Woofer. ... You would need to remove the brass jumpers... and if you are doing this you realize you are cutting off the frequency of the center channel from about 90hz on down if not even a little higher, if you are not using the RCA for the Low end. So in retrospect you are rendering your center useless for Midbass.

The woofer that is built into the Center Channel is not a SUBWOOFER as you would think like for LFE affects. It is used to fill in the Midbass and take some of the stress off of the Mids. The woofer doesnt move that much, so vibration is pretty much Null.

otk,

awesome subwoofer advice! What about the Sunfire TS-SJ8 (true subwoofer super junior). My local audio/video boutique recommended that at as an upgrade from my Energy mini (m6 I believe not the m8) which is really small but has been a great sub woofer surprisingly.

They are offering the Sunfire super junior (though not as small as the Energy will keep it to a small footprint) at a good price (500 something while everywhere else has it for close to $1,000). So I would like to keep the price around the same but I will have to check out the subs you recommended because it sounds like I am going to use some bass going from BP6's to XTR-60's and either way would like a sub upgrade to go with the new LCR's

Well, I still have not found any good local BP2000's or BP3000's for sale.
There is a guy in Charlotte that has a pair of BP3000, but I googled his name after a weird phone conversation, and he is a convicted felon.
Another guy has BP2000's. I drove 130 plus miles each way, only to find out he listed the speakers wrong in the ad. He did have BP2000's, and I offered $800, and he was stuck on $900. So, I walked. I called him back Friday to offer $850, but no answer or call back.

I may just settle for the BP10B's for rears. I want to have atleast 5 speakers with 6 1/2" mids. If I wait too long they will be hard to find. If I find a deal later on for the BP2000's or BP3000's I will go to 7.1

What do you think about the BP10B's for rears? I have the BP3000's front with the C/L/R 3000.

Should have bought my BP30s when I had them for sale

BP10s will work great for side surrounds in a 5.1 setup. I did the same until I purchased a second set of BP2000s - then I moved the BP10s to the rear for 7.1 just as you mentioned. Once you get the 10s hold out for another pair of the powered towers. Having four of your towers powered, in either a 5 or 7 channel setup is something you will really enjoy.

Good luck

Cheers

Hi all,

Not an owner yet but looking to buy ProCinema 800. Would like some suggestions for the receiver. I'll connecting it to PS3 primarily for the movies and gaming, around 10% music usage through iPod/iTunes library. Denon AVR-3311CI seems pretty decent but haven't been able to decide.

I would also appreciate the impressions of the owners of ProCinema 800.

thanks.
