There is no concrete answer to your question. We all like the bp7xxx series but weather or not they will provide enough bass depends on the size and layout of your room and what your expectations are. What you stated above says it all, try them out to see if they are for you.

No offense to any of you guys, but only 3% of the populous are being "carried" away by the rapture and if being a member here for years is any indication, 99.99999% of us fall into that 97% rating. So kick back and enjoy those speakers (at least for the next 130 or so days)

If it's any consulation, the free and easy girls will all be down here also.

Getting slightly back to topic, with the coupon I'm considering getting a supercube reference sub. I currently have a SVS PC 20-39 plus to go along with BP7002 mains, CLR2002, and BPX surrounds. I don't think I want a trinity, mostly because of the cost, but the reference cube appears to be a nice fit.

I don't know jack about subs. I've figured out DT speakers and know what I like and why I like it, but at some point someone recommended the svs, so i bought it.

so what i guess what I want to ask, will the reference supercube be an upgrade to the svs that i currently own?

I think they are great for HT and music. I also like the BP8060+'s alot too though. Still waiting for Def Tech to come out with like a BP8090 or something lol

Having never heard the SVS I can't do a comparison, but in my 3000 cubic foot room I was happy with my Reference. Tight on music, and very good on home theater which is mostly what I do. Ooth, I did upgrade to a Trinity and for the $500 price difference, it was totally worth it.

Not sure, would be interesting to try something like a ST, BP8080, and the Triton two mashed togeather lol

Three 6 1/2 mids, 2 tweeters, two fronted mounted woofers with 1200 watts, and one or two radiators on the side.

I can't compare your SVS to a DT REF, as I have no experience with the SVS.

However, I have had subs from Klipsch, James, M&K, etc., and I now have had a DT REF for four years. I like the REF better than any others that went before. It is powerful with a small footprint (WAF), and it matches my other DT's. With the REF, I have not felt the need to try something different. However, if someone wanted to donate a Trinity to the cause, I wouldn't object.

Mine is in a very large room with high ceilings and numerous openings and it produces all of the quality bass that I need.

With your coupon, a DT REF would be a very good buy. I don't think you will be dissapointed.

The size is one of the major draws. Not married, so I don't really have to worry about the WAF, but the SVS is a 16" cylinder that's 40 inches tall, so it takes up a lot of visual space. I don't want a lateral move, so it may help more to go to the sub forum and ask there. Or I could get a trinity and call it a day ... I do have a year to use the coupon ...

jan8186 I own the SVS PB12 NSD/2 and two DT Supercube 1's and the SVS trounces the Supercube. I mean it beats it bad. I would go with another SVS.

Contact SVS and ask them -- I did that a year ago and got what I felt was a VERY honest and complete answer that was rather surprising. If you like sealed (nonported) subs, the Ref Supercubes are VERY potent. I moved up to JL Audio subs and am getting ready to put both of my Ref SC's up for sale.

I guess I'm just trying to come up with ways to use the coupon. For the time being, I should probably just sit back and enjoy the new fronts I got and see if I feel like I need an upgrade in another 6 months. I could do much worse then getting a second SVS and having a 5.2 system.

After sending in one of my newly acquired BP2000's amps into Def Tech for repair 3 times it seems to be finally working . Now for EQing with my SVS AS EQ-1 (for my svs PB12+/2 & new rythmik F12SE subs) and Audyssey MultiEQ XT (for my 2 x BP2000 LR mains, CLR 3000 center, 4 x BPX's surrounds & 2 x BP2004TL's wides). I am running all the speakers with just speaker wire and the level knob for the 2004's set at 12 o'clock.

The 2000's have a level knob and a low frequency EQ knob and a High/Low Sensitivity button. What is the recommended settings to start with for Audyssey? What does the High/Low Sensitivity button do and would the setting differ between Large and Small speaker settings?

The high/low sensitivity switch basically boosts low frequency levels. If running speaker wire only to the 2000s, DT recommends pushing the sensitivity button in/hi sensitivity. If running RCA they recommend starting with it out/low sensitivity. And no, this switches operation is not effected by a large or small speaker setting - it still does the same thing, a high/low setting of whatever low freqs you are feeding it.

Start by setting the level control knob to 11 o'clock. The low freq equalization knob should be set at 12 o'clock - this is approx a 50Hz setting where turning left/down decreases the Hz's below 50 etc. All the way to the right/up is approx a 100Hz setting.

I don't have the luxury of going to listen to these top two DefTech models, but I was wondering if I could get some opinions on the difference between the BP8080-ST and the BP7000SC (other than price!)

Thanks!

So I took some time off work and spent the day going from shop to shop listening to various speakers. It is a frustrating experience as I had to drive at least an hour to get to the nearest big city from where I live which had some decent shops. When I went from place to place, all the stores were a hodgepodge of brands and models - all pushing their flavor of the month and completely ignoring my system demands, goals and budget! When I asked about Mirage, all dealers who carried them, completely downplayed them and completely discouraged me from even hearing them! When I asked about Definitive Technology speakers, reception was better, but still was getting pointed toward B&W and Paradigm at many multiples above what I wanted to spend and neither company has a speaker which would help me accomplish a wide sound stage at a reasonable price.

In humoring the reps and perhaps out of curiosity, I listened to 802D's and various other speakers way out of my price range. Honestly, I was completely unimpressed. As an audiophile for 30 years, I kept thinking "same old, same old". Direct radiating speakers all trying to perfect listening for ONE SINGLE listener.

I explained to every sales rep that my goal is to find a speaker that will sound good on the far left of my home theater room as it does in the middle or far right. I got blank stares and more suggestions of B&W and Paradigm. All great speakers, but not achieving what I need.

I heard the Mirage speakers at BestBuy (not sure of the brand) and I was amazed at the "wall of sound". Yes, centralized imaging was lost, but that wasn't the objective. The Def Techs were also impressive and perhaps provided a "happy medium" between center imaging and casting a wide sound stage.

Anyway....my post is a long winded way of asking for advice on the Mirage OMD-28's vs the Def Tech BP7000SC or BP-8080ST. I will NOT have the opportunity to hear either as no one near me carries either top model. I know this is a Def Tech User Forum - but I welcome comments.

Thanks!

Mike

Hello all!

I am dusting off my bp20's and would like to pick up a nicely matched center channel speaker on the cheap (perhaps $100 or $200 used).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated...

the 8080st's are still too new. i haven't heard of anyone dumping their 7000s for them yet and i kinda gotta hunch that wont be happening in great numbers

you might even want to try the new speaker that sandy gross just came out with (ex owner of def tech) called the golden ear (brand) triton 2 (model) towers

the ribbon tweeter seems to be a big hit with music lovers
post #23485 of 29342
mbovaird, I know the flustration you are dealing with. Driving long distances only to be met by salesmen that don't care about what you want, only what they need to push. I have never heard the new 8k series speakers. They seem to be putting more of an emphasis on the front drivers "foreword focused." I would think the 7k series would present a wider soundstage. I am very happy with my 7001's. I did get a chance to hear the tritons. The audition was less than ideal, I think the sub level was too high. That aside I still prefer my 7001's, just my opinion.
I just upgraded my speakers to the following:

BP8060 ST towers
CS 8060 HD Center
SR-8080BP surrounds.

I have received the center and surrounds, but Im still waiting on my towers to arrive (wed).

In the meantime I have been reading around trying to figure out if I should use LFE inputs and if I should attempt to use my Onkyo's audyssey multi eq function for setup. Ive skimmed through this tiny little thread looking for opinions, but I can't really tell what the consensus is, especially for the 8000 series since there dont appear to be many who own them yet.

If it leans one way or the other it seems that a lot of people dont use the LFE and that several people have chimed in that it works well to use audyssey multi eq despite the warnings not to use the receivers setup funtctions in the owners manual.

I know that I'm asking a question that has probably been argued a thousand times, but if anyone has any thoughts on either of these matters as it relates to the 8060s I would appreciate the input. I'm sure in the end curiosity will drive me crazy and Ill try every conceivable combination of the two anyway.

CLR2000 or CLR1000

Both have the same drivers yet will have an aluminum tweeter vise the silk tweeters in your 20s - yet I never could hear the difference. 2000 goes for around $200 and the 1000 around $150.
