Here's one for the speaker experts... I bought a CLR2000 used about two months ago for a cheap price and intended to use it as a height channel. Ran test tones through it and it didn't sound right... drivers were moving, tweeter didn't sound right. Got a replacement tweeter from Baja today and hooked it up... sounds the same on the bottom set of posts but just the tweeter fires on the top set and nothing from the drivers? I didn't test both sets of posts with the old tweeter since I figured it was the tweeter. Now I'm thinking bad crossover? Also, do I need the gold jumper on the posts? Thanks in advance...

yes you need those gold jumpers in place. are they ?

Ah no jumpers. Didn't even think about that really affecting things. I'll try it and report back. Thanks!

without those jumpers your tweeter wont work at all if you're plugged into the mid/low binding post

Some speaker wire jumpers and I'm great! Thanks OTK! My old tweeter was bad... I A/B'd them after I did the jumpers and the muffled sound was still there with the old. So it goes... for the price I paid I'm still happy with the purchase. Now I've got a nine speaker DT setup. Gotta get the wife and kid out of the house to blast them!

Just installed CLR3000, difference between it and CLR2300 is night & day. I can't believe how much detail we were missing. Now for the BP30's...

BP2000 Fronts
CLR2000 Heights
CLR3000 Center
SM450 Side Surrounds
BP30 Rear Surrounds (space dictates the 30's in back, no room in back)
Trinity front right corner
Dual MFW-15's front left corner

I keep meaning to post in the show me your theater thread but change something here or there... maybe this weekend...

IMO, the minimum is 5-1/4 speaker size for any good vocals. Any less and it just does not sound right. The 2300 has 4-1/2. That could be the reason.

Guys,

I bought a CLR-3000 locally today in great condition. When I tested it at seller's house, the sub seemed to be working. But when I installed it in my system both drivers seem to be working just fine but the CLR-3000 sub never produces output. When I looked at the back, the light always remains red. The output level is set to 12-o-clock.

I have used speaker wire to connect it to my Pioneer VSX-920-K. I have tried setting the center to both small and large, and have also played around with crossover settings. Nothing seems to make a difference.

Somewhere earlier in this thread there was a discussion on issues with Pioneer receivers. Could this be related?

Your help is highly appreciated

I picked up a Pioneer SC-57 receiver and went with 8060st, 8060hd and 8040bp (free as part of promo). I paid just about $2,300 (before tax) for the speakers in my this setup.

My goal was to have something semi-decent till I moved and setup my dedicated room with separates and higher end speakers.

Currently, this setup is in my home office downstairs. The room is 25x15 but I use about a third of it for my office.

I like my 8060 setup but for some reason I'm thinking the 8080 setup might be even better. I got quoted another $900 to go with a full blown 8080 setup. I won't be able to hear the 8080 setup because it's going to be a special order.

So, my question to everybody is will the 8080 setup be overkill for my current situation. Will they be that much better than the 8060 setup I currently have? I've been looking at a nice cd player and that $900 could go there if the change to 8080 setup would not make that much of a difference. I'm in a bind because I can't hear what the 8080 setup sounds like.

Thoughts/Opinions?

THANKS!

I'd stick with the BP8060's. I like those a lot. If you need louder sound, then upgrade to the BP8080's, but I would first listen to them before you fork over the cash. I would also assume that the 8060's would probably be loud enough for 90%+ of your listening sessions lol Def Tech might have something better and bigger then the BP8080's by the time your HT is ready

I have a chance to pick up a pair of used 7001's for a decent price.
I used to have BP 2000's that I sold last year. How would these 7001s compare to those, sound wise?

All honesty, near identical yet the 7001s will have tighter base. I just picked up a pair of 7000s that I powered up in the same room as my BP2000s. With the subs off they sounded identical in my room and to my ears. Ive got the back plates removed at the moment performing a power cord mod to the 7000s yet once I can place them in the same spot as the 2000s ill be able to better compair their sound/bass etc.

the bp 30 2000 3000tl 2000tl 7001 7000 will all sound pretty much identical from 80hz on up. where they will all differ a little is in the bass

i have never heard both the 2000 & 7001 in the same room. my guess is the 2000s will dig deeper and the 7001 will have a bit more impact in the area in which it's passive radiators are tuned

personally i like having a sealed woofer factory blended to sealed mids. again just guessing but the 7001s might seem a tad more "fun" with movies and possibly not as "tight" as the 2000s on music

either way you're going to want an extra sub for your LFE channel if you're into heavy action blow up the universe blu rays. i'm using 6 extra sealed subs on my LFE channel

when you get your 7000s going i would get them nice and calibrated first and start out with some music and see how they compare to your old 2000s then move on to some movies

if you're not using any external subs and start out with movies you're going to notice a huge difference in the movie "fun factor" with the 7000s and if you move on to music from there you'll be biased

Guys,

It turned out to be a false alarm I also have an Epik Legend and it's light turns from Red to Green when a signal is detected so I was somehow expecting the same. But CLR-3000's light toggles between off and on. Also, I was not playing content that would send a lot of bass to the center channel. Today when I tried the opening LOTR scene, the bass was clearly coming out of the center so seems like I am all set.

I was pulling my socks down from my BP3000TL's last night just to clean up a bit and noticed both upper drivers in back of both towers are different than all other drivers in towers. The dome is bigger and almost looks as if its a screen dome has anyone seen def tech drivers like that. I will try and get a pic of the driver and post, Also the speaker itself does not have the definitive logo stamped like all other drivers.....hmmmm

I personally enjoy the tweeters close to ear height- maybe a foot or two higher than the listening position. The bipolar array helps avoid significan localization.

Enjoy! Let us know what you think when everything is hooked up.

This issue is with my room. Here is the current layout and the one I where I want to put them. I'll have to put them on stands on top of the shelf where the stairwell is in order for them to clear the monitors on my desk. That would put their base at about 50" off the ground.

Good deal,
That was my first thought but when you mentioned the light was on I figured it was receiving a strong enough signal to be functioning. I'm sure you are relieved.
