Indeed, floorstanders are not in the cards. I was more trying to get a feel for xt32 vs mcacc instead of new speakers. From the sounds of it, speakers will have a much greater impact vs the upgrade from mcacc to xt32.

Some guy on audiogon is selling 5 CLR2002s and a pair of BP2X for a reasonable price. If you can find a way to wall mount CLR2002s (others on this forum have done that, I believe...). Get those speakers and an ID sub and you will have an excellent sound system.

Looking forward to "hearing" your opinion on these as I'm contemplating a setup like that.

Trying to decide between the 8060s and the 8040s. With the 8040s I'd probably add a $400 or less sub for a LFE boost only.

I was gonna go with the 40's,but I got the 60's for the same price and the 40's are out of stock. No brainer.. With the incredible difference between the C1 and the 8060 powered center,I just new I had to have all def tech.. Breaking in the 15's would have to be night and day,which they aren't gonna be. I already have at least 100 hrs on them..

You lost me after the 40's are out of stock

That's great you could get the 60s for the same price. For me it is list price and $400 more for the pair, hence the $400 I might put towards an inexpensive sub that makes movie booms. Something along the lines of one of the Bics or Polk 505.

No idea. Room is 13x14x9 and can be sealed off via 2 doors.

With the 60s I might not need or want a separate sub (at least for a while )

With the 40s I'm thinking I might want a little more oomph between the low to mid 20s and up.

I'm undecided at this point whether to go with a pair of STs or the new SM55s and one big sub or a pair of smaller subs.

The SMs with one large sub is the about the same price as a pair of 40s and about $400 less than a pair of 60s.

With the SMs I give up the bipolar aspect but with the STs I have 2 subs for better bass distribution although with less extension and probably less output than 1 large sub.

I'm conflicted to say the least. I've got a couple of months before I need to make a decision though.

Do the 40's then.. Your room sounds similar to mine ,but mine is an L shape,which is going to make me re arrange it this weekend I think.. I'm not looking forward to it. But it will be well worth it.

My current:
BP7000SC's - mains
CLR3000 - center
BP2000's - side surrounds
UIW75's - rears
BP2X's - 4 presence channels

It's all good. :-)

KJSmitty - thank you for posting an honest first-hand comparison of your experience with the BP2000 vs BP7000. As a BP2000 owner, I have indeed wondered what I might be missing in the newer line while at the same time wondered how it could get much better than this.

Any info on the brand new Definitive Technology StudioMonitor 65
bookshelf speakers? I cannot find any review on them anywhere. Are they worth $400 something each? What center channel will go with them?

One other thing I forgot to mention - I have a pioneer avr (mcacc) that will only allow one crossover for all speakers.

cool. i believe my first def tech speaker was the clr2000 and built up from there

i already had a def tech sub or maybe a pair of them so when i got that first center speaker i was pretty psyched

I own the 8060-st's and am saving up for the 8060 center....the 8060-st towers are awsome!....they put out clear loud sound...and the 10 inch subs in the towers put out great bass....caught me off guard...lol....but placement is key......let me know how you like them.......and congrats on the speakers and WELCOME!

Thank you guys.. I have a goofy layout. Its basically an L shape. I'm going to re arrange my basement tomorrow. They way it will be set up will be really good. it will let me space out the fronts more. Should I mount the bipole 8040 surrounds on the back wall or behind me on the sides?

I currently have a 5.1 system and will upgrade to a 7.1 in the near future and have a question about some of my speakers placements.

My gear:

Denon 2112 Ci
2x Floor stands DefTech 8020ST
1x Center DefTech 8040HD
2x Dep Tech Promonitor 1k's as rears.


I'd like to buy 2 more surrounds and have looked at the SR-8040BP and the 8080BP's. The BPVX's are out of the question because they are out of my price range and overkill compared to my other speakers. At least I think so.

Anyways, would it be better to place my 2x PM1k's as my Rear Surrounds (behind the listeners) and the SR's as my Right and Left Rear surrounds (on my walls to the left and right of the listening positions) or the other way around?

Going by your own graphic, it makes more sense using the BPs as the Rear Surround behind the listeners, especially since they are BiPolar, but I'm not sure if that's the right choice.
