I would like to offer some comments in the 8000 series vs 7000 series comparison:
We haven't gotten around to creating a replacement for the BP-7000SC, which is a really great product, and is almost twice as expensive as the BP 8080ST (the best of the 8000 series). If a listener is happy with their BP-7000SC (which are great!), the 8000 series might leave them underwhelmed.
But we feel that in an apples to apples comparison, the 8000 series is a big upgrade from comparably priced 7000 series models. They measure more smoothly in the mid-range and highs; they image better, while still offering bipolar benefits; and the bass measures and sounds better. The aesthetic look is slimmer and very cool too.
Yet we sometimes hear comments about them not sounding right, which may simply be that weren't set up correctly in that room. For example, if a pair of BP 8060ST sounds awesome in your living room with the bass set at 12 o'clock, that might be way too heavy in your basement, where 9 o'clock or 10 might be best (or vice versa). All speakers are set-up dependent. If a new employee in a store isn't hip to the idea that a few minutes of set-up time matters...you get less than ideal sound. This is especially true on a speaker with a built-in subwoofer, where you need to dial in the sub for a nice blend. I hope this helps, and thanks for owning Definitive! Best regards, Joe

I think Joe summed up my entire listening experience with both the bp8060's and the bp8080's, I just felt very underwhelmed. No way I would trade my bp30's for a pair of bp8080's. I did like the bp8080's much better then the bp8060's, though. They sounded smoother and had some really good imaging and sound stage presentation. The bass was no where near the bp7000's on the bp8080's. That was what I disliked the most about them.

The only time I noticed a huge difference using RCA instead of high level was in car audio. The problem was more related to the other parts the the use of the high level input, i.e, factory wire, factory head unit, grounding, etc. If you have a decent avr sending out a nice clean signal, the high level input should be just fine. Just use some nice thick wire.

Almost all speakers are designed with a vertical orientation for a reason. If horizontal speakers worked better, that's what we'd all use. We don't.

Well, that's certainly not true for CLRs as they are mostly used as center channels. Most of use place center channels underneath the TV horizontally (my CLR-3000 is placed that way...) and it makes perfect sense for L/R speakers to work better horizontally, if they are CLRs.

And yes, can't imagine running my 2000TLs horizontally
