I am in the market for a new pair of Def Tech side surrounds to compliment my BP-30's +C/L/R-2000. Due to having to take another round of chemo, money is tight so my budget is $250.00 and under. Of course I would love to have a pair of BPVX's or SR-8080bp's but I do not have the money to spare. Having to take chemo, I feel really terrible most I'd the time, but, when I sit back and watch a movie on my Def Techs, it makes me feel sooooo much better! Here are my choices for side's. Opinions on which one I should go with?

SR-8040bp (new model surrounds in case you aren't familiar)
BP2x
BP1.2x
BP-1 (old school Def Tech surrounds from several years ago)

Wow Marty, I'm sorry to hear about what you are dealing with and wish you a speedy recovery. Glad your system gives you some needed relief. I used to have bp2x's (since replaced by bpvx's) and thought for their size, they did a very good job. If I see any deals on some, I'll pm you.

i just gave my friend my pair of sm-350's

i'm thinking a nice center for those would be a pro center 2000 or a CLR-2002, a 3rd sm-350 or even a clr1000b

if anyone happens to see any of those dirt cheap please let me know. he's on a very tight budget

he loves the sm-350s by the way coming from a really old htib

Marty, I also agree with g_bartman recommendation. I replaced a pair with some BPVX/P's a couple months back but those 2X's are great surrounds. Good luck in your recovery.

Looking for opinions on which sub to pair with my CLR2000 to get that full range, CLR3000 performance. I've got a Super Cube III & Pro Sub 600 laying around. How do those subs compare to each other, and which would come the closest, or surpass the performance of the CLR3000, when paired with the CLR2000?

Hi Felton,
The SC III is a more powerful sub, with a bigger amp. It can play louder, and play deeper notes, than the ProSub 600, which is a fine sub in its own right - but is a less expensive product. So the SC III is the better bet to give you the best performance from your CLR2000. I hope this helps - best, Joe

try them both and see which one sounds best. be careful with the calibration. you don't want the sub too loud on the center channel. it should be as carefully blended as possible

the standalone subs will probably have better bass performance (more output and extension) over a clr3000 but where the clr3000 has the advantage is the mid-range drivers are in a sealed chamber where the clr2000 mid/bass drivers share the same ported box plus the clr3000 has the advantage of having it's woofer seamlessly and flawlessly blended to the mids

if i were going to add a subwoofer to my center channel, i would probably look for a small sealed forward firing sub but that's just me. i'm sure you can use any sub you want

the BPVX is the best surround speaker on the planet

i would recommend them for use with any other speaker no matter what model or brand

My Definitive Technology Surround Sound system:
BP3000's
CLR3000
BPVX (sides)
BPVX-P (rear) These were icing on the cake. )So much sound back there I never knew) AVR is Denon 5700, Lots of power per channel, weighs a ton!
AVR Sony STR-DN1010 3D
Oppo BDP-83SE incredible for direct analog output(all formats)
Oppo BDP-93 for 3d (all formats)
JVC DVHS HDTV HM DH40000 Recorder
Pioneer DVD/LD DVL-91 Laserdisc Player Rosewood.
Samsung BD-U5000 BR/HD-DVD player
AppleTV2
Combine above with Optoma HD33 3d front projector and/or LG 47LW6500 passive 3D 240hz hdtv.
I started with just the clr3000 and stuck with it until I had a complete system. Not an overnight thing but worth it all. I must say the addition of the BPVX-P powered rear speakers brought it all together. I am enjoying every audio/video format and until I'm totally deaf it is unbelieveable bar none. When I am unable to blast it, I have to use my Sony DP-RF6000 Surr headphones cranked up. Demo: The Phantom of the Opera, bluray, highs & lows will sell the system.
Enjoy:-)

Pure CRAZY talk!!

Time for an intervention... Most of these cases can be cured by an unannounced swap of the inflicted's DT towers with a Bose Acoustimass system.....

i still say we need a tower version of the BPVX. picture a bp7000 twisted into the shape of a BPVX

now THAT'S what the BPVX/P should have been

Hi all, sorry I haven't been around for awhile. Work has been hectic. I have decided to upgrade my surround back speakers. I am selling my black Mythos ST SuperTowers on Audiogon and intend to replace them with a pair of BP7000's to match the front. Here is the link if anyone is interested....
