Haroon,
I am using a CLR-3000 with my S2.
You are right that you don't really need a center with a built in sub in presence of the S2. However, a sub in center channel is not really used as a sub. It's a way to achieve full range. Many of us run our main sub a few dbs hot. Since the center channel carries mostly voices , if you run the lower end of the center channel hotter than the rest of the freq range the dialog quality somewhat detoriates. I feel noticeable difference if I run the sub hot and cross the center channel at 80 Hz. The difference goes away if I level match the sub or if I cross the center at 40 Hz (min allowed by my receiver).
Get the biggest center you can afford!
Thanks Logicators! great advice. I'm debating whether to get the cs8060 center with the 8040bp surrounds (to keep the whole system bipolar) or getting the cs8080 center and maybe the pro monitor 800/1000 surrounds.
BTW I have used both bipolar and non bipolar surrounds from DT and bipolar surrounds are so much better. I currently use BPVX and am quite happy with them.
Need advice on upgrading center, currently I have a pro center 2000, sm450s for fronts, bp1.2 for surrounds and an 800 for surround back along with a Yamaha aventage 3000. Sometimes the center is kinda weak, and have to bump it a lot more and voices sometimes lack that mid range or bass. Would an upgrade to a 8040 center work? Would there be a major improvement? I also believe an upgrade to my fronts will be in the near future as I might go to towers, preferably the 8040 St, but for now im wanting to upgrade the center. Thanks.
I currently have a Klipsch RW-12d that I bought about 3 years ago used. My HT is a movie only environment. The only beef that I've had with the RW-12d is the port chuff with high volume and extremely low frequencies. Other than that, it's a great sub. I have an opportunity to purchase a used Definitive Technology Powerfield 1800 for about 3 bills. It appears to be all there cosmetically and the owner stated that there aren't any mechanical issues. I don't know much about this sub other than it has a 500 watt amp, an 18" driver, no auto on/off, and that it is an older sub. I'm assuming this would hit low frequencies nicely.
If you guys have any advice, I'd appreciate any input. Keep my Klipsch? Go with the DT? Any differences? I plan to audition it this week, but I thought I'd get some opinions.
Right now I have:
BP-30 sides
CLR 2000 Center
BPVX Surrounds
I also have a pair of BP-10Bs and BPXs. Would it be worth running either of those as rear surrounds? Or would getting another pair of BPVXs be worth it? Or should I just stick with 5.1, assuming I have the space for either setup.

Two ways you could go with this. You could hunt down a CLR 2000 or CLR 3000 if your goal is to hunt down an older pair of BP7000SC, BP7001SC, or BP7002 and move the SM450 to a surround position. If you plan on just upgrading to the 8000 series, then I would go with the 8080 or 8060 center. My thinking is that it is better to have a center channel you have to turn down to match the front rather than a center that is struggling to match the front.
The reason I'm saying CLR2000/3000 if going last gen is because those have 1" and 6.5" drivers just like the SM450 and the upper 7000 series. Matching drivers on the front sound stage is what I believe in but maybe it doesn't matter too much. I'd leave it up to other AVS members to affirm my belief. The 8000 series only have 5.25" drivers in their top tower speakers. The 8040 center might not be the best fit for SM450 unless the 8000 series will be your next upgrade.
I bought a CLR 3000 almost two years before I bought my BP7000SC simply because I knew I would use all that extra power later on. Actually didn't add my external amp ( Emotiva 400 watt x 5 ) until last September. NOW my BP7000SC's/ CLR 3000 really sing!! Edited by jevans64 - 12/1/12 at 11:05pm

You also want to include the CLR1000b in that mix. It is the same as the 2000 without the fancy end caps. It can also be found for around $100. It's an incredible center for the money.
What would you recommend I do with my surrounds?
Right now I have:
BP-30 sides
CLR 2000 Center
BPVX Surrounds

Sounds like my setup:
Left/Right = BP30
Center = CLR2000
L/R Surrounds = BPVX
If I were going to add more speakers to the mix I would add front wides, followed by front height, followed by rear surround last.
Given your existing speakers - I would see if you can use the 10's as front wides (if you have the space and your decoder handles the new Audessy or Dolby options) and the BPX's as either front height (with one speaker plane pointed to your listening position) or rear surrounds.
If you don't have the new 'wide/high' options, I would use the 10's as rear surrounds if you have the space or the BPX as rear surround if space limited.
Have a quick question for Joe or anyone who can offer insight I have 8060 towers with matching center.I used to own a pioneer elite vsx-31 7.1 80 watts a channel but just got a 2012 vsx-60 elite 90 WPC 7.2 channel and my question is I am messing with RCA's into my towers to my reciever's 2 sub preouts and would like to know if this is OK and how should I set them in reciever small or large sub to yes or plus, crossover?I currently have them small 80 crossover with sub set to yes.If I understand doing this with powered towers the benefits are to be able to adjust bass output via remote and not just via the knobs on the towers...correct?thanks for any help...
I have a pair of DT SR-8080BP surrounds, which I would like to put on stands.
Does anyone know of a decent set of stands that fit them ? I checked standsandmounts.com. They have a good selection of stands, but there is no indication which speakers they fit.
I also sent an e-mail to DT, and they claimed not to know, even though on the description of the speakers they say they can be supported by stands.
This is for you or anyone who wants to jump in. I just got my panasonic vt-55 and found out that i do not have as much room as i originally thought
Instead of getting the 8060 towers, can you recommend what would be the best surround sound def tech speakers i can put against the wall on top
of the television, two in the rear and a center channel for a complete 5.1 system. My receiver will be the onkyo 818 or the denon 3313
Anyone looking for a couple of SVS passive subs there the pc16-46 plus subs with the new 12.3 drivers and running a samson sx1200 amp to power them. There in great condition they rattle my house. Just moving these out for my Trinity. Also have a clr3000 for sale.

Definitive Technology made those from 2000 right up until the ProCenter 1000 was packaged with the new 5.1 systems. The ProCenter 100 was PART of the ProCinema 100 5.1 system. The MKII usually means that it would have the aluminum tweeter found in the SM350/450 and 7000 series. The only way to know for sure about the date of manufacture is to get the info from the speaker itself. It is likely fairly new because of the MKII. The ProCenter 100 isn't going to have the same KICK of the SM450 because of the 4.5" drivers.
Maybe look for a used C/L/R 2000 instead IF you have the room for a LARGE center channel speaker. Another alternative would be the ProCenter 2000, which are still being made. Edited by jevans64 - 12/1/12 at 11:05pm
There does not seem to be much info at Def Tech about their older ProCinema 80 series of speakers. Is that essentially the same as today's 800 series? Is $350 a good price for the set including 4 for ProMonitor 80 satellites, a ProCenter 100 center speaker, and the ProSub 80 powered subwoofer?

Not sure what is different internally but DefTech cleaned up the design a little bit when they shifted them to the 600/800/1000. The center IS different between the 80 and the 800. The 800 comes with the ProCenter 1000 which has two passive radiators on the sides of the speaker. DefTech still kept the ProCinema 60 as an entry-level 5.1 setup and added the x00 to their HTiB lineup. I believe DefTech had a ProCenter 200 that was an upgrade for the ProCinema 100 set.
$350 is high if it is an early production model but OK if it has the MKII center and made right before the x00 series was produced.
DefTech got rid of a lot of discontinued product information a couple of years ago and finished when they went to the new site a few months ago.
Looking to upgrade my system with separates. Currently have ST's up front with Mythos 10 center and Gem XL's in the rear. I currently run everything out of a Yamaha RX-V871 with pre-outs that can connect to a powered amplifier. I was planning on starting with a decent amplifier. I have considered the Emotiva XPR-5 as well as Outlaw Model 7500 vs 7900. I have also considered an AVR including the new Pioneer SC-68 and Integra DTR 80.3. I am, however, more biased toward a separate amplifier to work solely for my speakers and not have to rely on a shared power source for the processor as well...like with an AVR. I would potentially look into a AV processor down the road as the Yamaha is intended to be a temporary piece. Suggestions/feedback/thoughts please?
