Show your Before and After pics... - Page 16

Here are my before and after shots. I should have taken the truly "before" shots as these are after about two months of work cleaning up the room.

Do you use the room for anything else other than HT and exercising? (like kids putting on shows, etc) I'm surprised you made the tradeoff of a pulldown screen with waves in order to have a few posters behind it. Looks good all around, though.

Funny you ask, my daughters have friends over and practice home made plays on the stage and then perform on movie nights. The waves are weird. Not as noticable in person as in the pics. Not sure if this is normal for the high power but it really is not an issue compared to the way it must look. The high power fabric handles what waves there are without affecting the image at all.

Is it just me (again! ), though, or does that curtained-off room remind anyone else of something else?

Cool - I'm definitely considering something similar (capability for kids to do that).. any ideas for incorporating that into the design? Especially things that you ran into that you didn't expect or things you'd do differently?

That's funny! I have to get behind the rack periodically to play with the cables as the FFFing Denon gets HDMI dropouts between it and the PS3 so I need to get back there and disconnect and connect the hdmi cable when it does it. Kind of feels like the wizard...

I had planned a curved stage but my oldest daughter wanted the stage as big as possible so she could perform and do cart wheels. So I did the basic straight rectangle that is 4' deep. Any bigger and it really cuts in to the room and any smaller and I am in trouble. The kids love running around the room. Jumping on to the riser, around the front row, on to the stage and back again. I have been up and running for almost 4 months now and as far as the stage is concerned it worked I would not change a thing. It was really pretty cut and dried. My biggest concern was it would be too big and look odd but the scale looks fine. 4 foot stage in a 23 foot deep room.

Wow, that black wainscoting adds a ton of finishing detail without being flashy. This is definitely making it into my HT room... Nice job.

We moved about a year ago and had to say goodbye to our home theater and wet bar. An update for our latest Theater....

Major upgrades include a pool, infinite space to replace sound absorbing panels, seating for about 60, fire pit, 220" screen.

As usual, upgrades never stop. The next projects include eliminating the world of mosquitos, ten 50,000BTU heaters for winter viewing, a receding dome for inclement weather and sloping our driveway 5:1 for auditorium like seating.

Neuner, what PJ is throwing that image and do you have to wait until it's basically dark outside? Awesome, by the way! Probably took much less time to build than your previous one as well..

Sorry, didn't see the post earlier. I'm using the Sharp DT-500 on high-brightness mode rated 1200 lumens and 73% on the bulb.

On first showings I was afraid it wouldn't be bright enough but that was quickly put to rest. It is plenty bright! Sitting back about 30-35 feet it lights up the 220" BOC screen enough to see where you are walking. The image is bright enough that I can start the movie a little after the sun has disappeared off of the horizon but there is still a little bit of glow in the sky. You can see how much light is out in the screen shot with the Walt Disney logo on the screen and the audience. It helps that the screen backs to the sun setting.

Just like any theater, the upgrades and changes never stop. Since the picture posts on this thread I've added speaker perches on the screen frame to get them up higher. Next season I'm going to build a semi-permanent screen that I will paint with a DIY mix of Silver-Fire that can be dropped and stored in the garage.

The comments are awesome the first time a guest sees the image. Their jaw drops and I hear, 'Holy $h!t'. They then give a weird glance as they realize children are standing around them.

Here are my before and afters. Of course my theater is still a work in progress, got most of it painted in the last couple of weeks. We moved in our current house last December and it already had a fully finished basement, which was nice but limits my HT conversion. Since the house is only 2 years old, I didn't want to rip out drywall and stuff just to redo it for the HT plus that would add expense and my budget is really, really small so I worked around it.

This is the room in the basement I thought was best suited for the HT, even though it has that nasty support beam going down the ceiling and the poe right in the middle of the room.



Looking back into the rest of the basement, I like the room divider but I wished it was about 2 feet further back.

I haven't posted back in this thread in a while. I now have a 5 minute walk through of my HT in my signature. I need do this again since I have now built a platform with bass shakers from my rear seats. But this is how my unfinished basement looked when I started:

Thank you....and I agree. I plan on going front projector with around 120" or so CIH screen around Jan.-Feb. First I need to finish some touch up painting and build a riser for the rear seats.

I've had so much fun with this room, I can't wait to go big screen.

Great minds think alike. And sometimes so does mine.
