hiya - can just about fully control mine with a Logitech One - it has an downloadable controller file for the 59txi online

I'm still enjoying the USB input on mine

8 channel 48khz lossless - or in most cases I set to 6 channel + PLIIx for rear

just a pity when I switch to 2 channel trailers - that I have to cycle through 6 channel to 7, 8 and then to 2 - to then be able to use full PLIIx

I don't suppose there are any discrete codes for this are there ? I suppose I could set up a macro

I just added a 51 to the 59. Analog out from the 51. CD'd sound awesome, even my "harsh" ones.

Question:

Would DD or DTS movies benefirt from the multi-channel out/in?

I know it will for HD audio content but what about DVD audio? (DD &DTS)

I've got a 09 connected to my 59TXi and exclusively use the multi channel inputs for all DVD and BD audio. I did buy a optical cable for the occassional DTS-ES 6.1 or DD 5.1 EX track, but the 09-59 combo sounds so good I have not even bothered to hook it up. I'd use the multichannels for everything..

I have been using the MCH for movies, BD & DD, DTS, but the midnight mode doesn't work right. It acts like a loudness function, boosting at all volumes. I like night mode for the family viewing. keeps the peaks down so my wife doesn't jump out of the seat so far

That may have to do with you using stream direct possibly. Personally I shut it off and use MCACC and apply THX Ultra2 to any 5.1 (6 channel in) source. For the few 7.1 BDs I have, I change to 8 channel in and apply MCACC and THX to it. There's a few things that don't work with stream direct, I also use the ATT INPUT setting to make sure the analog inputs don't set off my "over" light, after applying the DTS-MA firmware to my player I started to see that occasionally.

I've asked this question before - but never really got an answer that I understand - why can't the 59TXi apply DPLIIx to a 5.1 D.Digital input to simulate the rear centre when only using 1 back channel ?

wheras DPLIIx can be used to simulate for a single back channel on 2 channel sources ?

I only have choice of D.Digital EX or SX for 5.1 when I use a single rear (I only have one centre rear) but if I change the speaker menu setup to say I've two rear centres - D.Digital + DPLIIx becomes available

Stream Direct (1,2, or 3) won't allow night mode. SD1,2 do apply MCACC oddly enough. SD3 does not, pure analog.

When I change to Standard, night mode is allowed but behaves as I described above but not how it should.

On my 51 player, I am able to output mch and optical out so I just switch to optical (standard) when I want nite mode.

if anyone has the service manual - could they let me know what USB receiver chip the 59TXi uses please? I'm interested to see what implentation it has over USB (ie the mode it uses) cheers, Mark.

I just picked up a used 59Txi and will be pairing it with my DV-79Avi player via i.link. For those doing this combination, have you found that using a high-end i.link cable improves the sound over a $10 cable?

My experience has been that USB cables and digital coax cables make a difference. I've tried MIT Shotgun Digital, Virtual Dynamics Master LE 2.0, and others, and they open up the sound stage, increase detail, and extend frequency response.

Some i.link cables I've been looking at include Audioquest 1394-3 ($150), Acrolink Mexcel ($725), Siltech ($1050). Locus Design and Ridge Street Audio are supposed to have one soon. I realize there is a point of diminishing returns, so I would like to stay under $300.

Any recommendations? Please no Monster or RatShak - those are not high end!

interestingly enough, my $4 firewire cable works just fine between my 79avi and susano...

No, I do not hear any difference or "improved sound" at all between $10-$15 i-Link cables and ones that cost over $100. There is no reason to spend big money on them. Spending anything much more than $20 for a well made i-Link cable, is also spending too much.

I appreciate the opinions, but which $100 cables did you try? I used to be a cable skeptic like most, until I actually tried one and heard the difference for the better.
I'm looking for some specific examples instead of generalities.

Just buy whatever cable you want then, because telling you any brand names is not going to change your mind about what you think cables can or can not do.

do any of the "stream direct" etc modes - allow for as good as analogue passthrough for a multichannel analogue input ?

ie I would like to input a 7 channel analogue in - without it then being converted to digital and and back to analogue again - yes without bass management or EQ.

manual implies this isn't possible ?

manual implies that in one of the stream direct modes - a multichannel analogue input will be down-converted to 2 channel, and in another of the stream direct mode, if a multichannel analogue input is input, then full bass management etc will be applied - ie it will have to be re-digitised

This will do it -
Use Stream Direct 3 for your 7 ch analogs and doesn't convert analog inputs to digital. Check the manual, page 47 (US version) for a description. It doesn't say specifically no A/D/A conversion, but it's very much implied. SD3 is the analog passthrough mode with analog sources.

"SD:3 ANA - DIRECT – All analog sources are heard without any digital processing. All processing is done through the analog circuitry and the center channel, if present, will be sent to the front right and left speakers (the channel level is adjusted automatically). With digital sources, playback is the same as the NORMAL setting (above)."

When I listen to CD's from the analog outputs of the BD-51, MCCAC still cycles through it's choices (OFF, ALl channel, etc) What is strange is that the red light indicator doesn't light and I don't think it really is active. It should flash "Stream Direct" like when you try to activte Night mode, tone, etc. I think it's a software bug?

Sure, Just use the headphone out with an adaptor to stereo RCA and plug in to the front input.

anyone know if Bass Management is applied to the USB input ? I thought from some 2 channel tests it was (as sub was working - even though only 2 channel input)

but when watching movies I'm half sure my speakers are outputting the full range ?

is it possible that in 6/7/8 channel USB input mode ? it assumes the Bass Management is done external to the amp ? MCACC is definately being applied and is on - but I'm not sure if BM is ?

any ideas ?
