This is a configurable option, yes.

The Sharp AQUOS stands are compatible, you could try using one of those instead. If you go earlier in the thread, I believe someone purchased one off of eBay and was happier with it.

It's still silver, but it's not the big blocky thing that comes with the HP TV, and still rotates.

HeyHey~

I've got a knoppmyth box running nicely and I'd love to be able to record HD OTA from my LC3700N.

The TV doesn't seem to recognize the PC connection via the firewire jack- i.link input is not available. does anyone know if it's even possible?

I've done a ton of reading up on firewire and myth, mostly seems to cover STB's. There's no mention of anyone trying to hook up their TV to a myth box via firewire.

TIA

I bought a stand for a 26" Sharp off EBay that bolted right up (since the HP is really just a Sharp anyway). The stand i bought came off a model that has the speakers below the screen so it raises the TV a few inches higher than the stock stand. It would have been better to get a stand from a side-speaker'd Sharp then the TV would sit at it's normal height.

The components that make up the stand are interchangeable between the Sharp and the HP. The cylindrical-shaped pedestal portion on the HP stand is cut from the same aluminum extrusion as the ones on the Sharp stands, but the one i got on my Sharp stand is much taller. I used the carrying handle from the Sharp stand which makes it really easy to carry the TV from room to room or whatever, used the shorter pedestal from the HP, and bolted it all to the Sharp base and it looks great. Both stands have the same exact swivel feature too.

The 37" model has a different method of bolting to the TV, but i saw Sharp stands on EBay that had the same flange setup as shown in the HP's owner's manual so i presume it will bolt directly up to the HP. Just be sure to get the shorter stand from a Sharp with side mounted speakers and not the one that has them under the screen (unless you want the TV to sit a few inches higher).

I had a question about the digital cable input. I normally use a set top box for recieving my digital cable, not HD, just digital. With the integrated tuner, do I simply plug the cable straight from the wall into the TV without any need for a box?

I did try this but it wasnt picking up any channels when i scanned for them.

Also, has anyone played around with the DNR options to see if they are worth using?

Does the Sharp's stand has the exact silver color as the HP's stand? Do you have a picture of the HP bolted on the Sharp's stand?

Thanks

Sorry i don't have pics of the hybrid setup. Some Sharp stands are bright silver while the more recent ones seem to be the newer dark metalflake charcoal/dark grey/almost broze-ish color (like the one i bought). This dark color doesn't seem to go well with the black color of the HP, but since it's dark it doesn't clash so much with the TV and the cleaner leaner design looks way better. I'll probably paint the Sharp stand a semi-gloss/satin black to match the speakers. I might just paint that obnoxiously reflective bezel while i'm at it

Hi, I also bought the HP LC2600N from the awesome deal at J&R. am very happy about the TV so far!

But I do have one question to ask for your expert opinion:

Currently I have my TV hook up with both Analog and Digital cable, my xbox 360 hook up with INPUT 1 (Component) And my computer hook up with INPUT 5 (DVI port (video) and mini audio jack (sound)).

So what if I plan to get the Oppo DVD Player, Which INPUT should I hook up to?

Because if I used Oppo DVD Player's DVI/HDMI Cable to plugin my TV INPUT 4 (HDMI Port), am I still be able to hear the sound????

So what is my solution here? Please help. Thanks!!

If your Oppo has HDMI native then you will get sound but if you are going from DVI-HDMI converter route then there is no sound since the DVI source does not carry sound. Thats the only major issue with the HP's via HDMI that they didnt provide audio jacks for the HDMI input. So you will prob have to decide which is more important you PC or Oppo that will be used for digital via the DVI+audio. I choose to use the DVI for my HTPC since thats the majority of my viewing. I initially had my HD box (DVI) connected via component since the DVI was being used by my HTPC then I replaced it with a HD PVR that had HDMI.

This is small problem with these TV's (I think a lot of TV's have this problem). There isn't a way to input separate audio with HDMI because HDMI includes pins for digital audio. I've read that Gefen is working on a converter for DVI to HDMI that includes audio, but I bet it's not as simple solution as running two cables in to HDMI (read, not cheap). You can also try getting a DVI switch with audio, but you'd probably want to get HDCP compliant ones, and they are not cheap either.
You can connect the DVD player to component, but that defeats the whole purpose, since Oppo does not send upconverted signals through component. Another option is to look for a upconverting DVD player with HDMI, or maybe Oppo will make one soon with HDMI connection.

I recently purchased the LC2600N from J&R and I am very pleased with the set and price. This television makes an excellent addition to my bedroom system.

This may make my purchase decision of this unit all the easier. And given that i don't know you from a hole in the wall (and i'm a scientist), that's why i'm asking...
cheers

If you connect the HP LCD to a Macintosh via DVI, the Displays configuration page will say SHARP at the top. That's the best confirmation I could find. If I get a chance, I'll post the screenshot.

A representative from Sharp, on this forum, has corroborated that Sharp manufactures the HP LCD sets.

Anyone have the 'code' for programming the HP LC2600N remote to operate a Directv set top box?
I have tried 0046 and 'searching' for the device code without success. I have also tried without success to program the Directv remote to control the HP using first all the 'Sharp' TV codes, since HP is not listed, and 'searching' for the code. Any suggestions would be helpful.

You can plug the cable directly in to the digital cable in (the one on the inside bottom), but you will only be able to get unencrypted signals. You may be able to ask your cable provider for a CableCard so that the TV can receive the encrypted channels, so you can get rid of the box. Generally Cablecards are cheaper than STB, but you won't get the tv guide and PPV.

I know on the Mac there's a program called Virtual D-VHS that will communicate the streams over firewire to a TV. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a solution for Linux or Windows, but you can't just hook it up and expect it to work, you have to have some software that will handle the communications over IEEE1394. Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for the reply-

I can config mythtv to use firewire as an input, config the node and port- it just seems like there isn't anything coming over the wire.
plugreport 'sees' a device on node 0 using broadcast channel=63

I've set the TV tuner to a digital station and config'd it to use 'passthrough'

from command line I execute:

test-mpeg2 > test.tl

without error. however the file produced is 0k.

This is the process used for getting the firewire digital mpeg2 data from an STB into myth. I just can't prove that the TV is sending anything out via the firewire. pressing the i.link button on the remote gives 'no i.link model available'.

has anyone gotten a linux box to talk to this TV? Or vice versa? Any tips are appreciated.

thanks for the info on sharp sharing compatible stands, that would make sense. It's odd that the display itself looks so classy, while the stand is ugly. The new sharp/hp models coming out, I would imagine those stands might be compatible. Could be worth waiting on.
Still I think I might go the spray paint option on the existing stand first and if still displeased, take a harder look at the sharp option.

hi guys - my first post. very informative stuff here. i'm about to get the 26" one, but i'm wondering if any of you out there with multi standard dvd could try whether it'll eat pal signal via the analog (s-video/rca) inputs? i've got a large collection of great european movies on both dvd/vhs...

the other thing that i'm curious about is whether i can use the firewire out on the panel to capture analog input signals onto my computer using something like adobe premiere to read it. that'd be nice gravy... seems like noone here has been able to do anything with it.

thanx in advance for the pointers.

Quick question.

I can get the LCN3200 from some guy on CraigsList. It is 3 months old. Comes with a 2 year warranty. What do you think a fair price for this item would be?

[EDIT]

Thanks for you help/input.

My HP 26" came today finally. Had to wait a week until it got here since im in california. Sad thing was it came not working. I check to make sure the tv wasn't damaged during shipment and it look fine but when I plug it in it only had half of the screen working. Contacted HP about it and they told me to reset the unit but that still didn't work. So there pretty sure the board is mess up. Now I have to contact J&R and see if they'll send me another.

After about a month I really like the 2600N - great picture and sound. I opted for a CableCARD to receive Comcast's digital classic tier; installation was painless and the CC has been glitch-free. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 2600N based on my experience so far.

If I could wish for one "extra" it would be for the INFO (or GUIDE) button on the remote to display a bit more data. TVGoS would be nice, but I don't believe that's available in these sets.

I am having a HUGE problem fitting the whole screen on my LCD TV playing Oblivion on the Xbox 360. This is the HP LC2600N. The picture is fantastic but it seems I have to cut off either the top or bottom of the screen. More so the top because I need to see the menu at the bottom. I don't have this problem at on when playing on my FP (Infocus 4805). Anyone else having this problem?

I am also having problems pixel mapping now that I changed from the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro to a XFX Geoforce 6600GT. What gives?

Did you set up a custom resolution in the driver and set the timing? Look at screenshots on post #262 (page 9). The screenshots are from an older card, but the driver is the latest, so it should look similar. Also, from the TV's setup menu, set the screen to 1366x768.

It sounds like you have it in smart stretch mode. Isn't there a way to have xbox set to widescreen so you can put it in normal mode?

Just wanted to add that I received my LCN2600 from J&R yesterday. Quick shipping to Texas. Ordered on Friday received on Thursday . Also purchased a wall mount and have it mounted in the master bedroom. My wife loves it and the picture is good with digital cable as well as awesome with OTA HD .

Will using the cable card alow you to get the guide ? If not I will stick with the set top box. I am receiving the cable through analog cable in out of set top box. Need to up grade to the HD cable box but don't want to loose the ability to stretch the picture for full panel.

Can't change the stretch on the Air OTA HD channels ? Some of the digital programing would be better stretched. John

Hey john I was wondering what kind of mount did you get for this tv?
