I've been a BA fanatic for what seems like forever. Current set-up (strictly based on bang for the buck theory)...

VR-3 Mains
VRC Center
VRB Surrounds
VRX for 7:1
(2) PV1000's doing the dirty work.

The mains are biamped using a Yamaha M-80 (fantastic upgrade) with a Yamaha AVR taking up the slack for the rest.

I've seen and listened to several of the BA HS series units. I'm sure it's a love/hate relationship for most owners. For HT they're brilliant but equally dissapointing when it comes to 2-channel listening. IMHO they are missing the mark on pricing as well. They simply don't appeal to the senses the way others have for a variety of reasons. The military appearance (I'm guessing) is supposed to help the cabinets "disappear" but others do it better using wall mount options and slim line cabinets. The sound is "powerful" in the lows with emphasis on the mid range. As mentioned, terrific for movies where most effort needs to be on dialogue and plain shock value. If you flip to a good CD the lack of clarity jumps out at you quickly.

BTW, IF ANYONE HAS A LINE ON A SET OF CHERRY VRB BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS...PLEASE FORWARD THE INFORMATION.

I want to send the Cherry VR-3's packing and stand mount the VRB's for mains with the PV1000's sitting adjacent. The combination should be a sure bet based on my listening. If someone's looking for an even trade on the VR-3 towers for the VRB's please let me know. I'm not in this for the money (duh), just searching for someone who might want towers more than me.

You should like the BA/Denon combo. They work very well together as I have experienced with the same spkr's.

Anyone has any info on the crossover diagram of BA lynnfield series 500L?
I have a blown cap in it, and i' d like to bring down the tweeter level by 2db.

Just in case anyone is still looking to buy these speakers, they are in stock at one call for under two hundred each, including 3 day FedEx, and no tax for many of us. You can also order through Amazon.com if you have any reward certificates. I have been waiting for 4 months to get these boys under two hundred, so I grabbed a pair. Circuit City has had these recently for the same price/plus tax and less 10% for in store pick-up, but they were OOS in my area and not available online. These will replace my CR67's up front and will match my VRC. I hope my current BA 8" XB2 sub will work well with the VR2's. Happy holidays!

I am looking for a recommendation for a pair of in-wall speakers to round out my 5.1 install? I currently have a VRC, 2 VR2s (from OnceCall) and a BA HPS 10SE sub. I am not wanting to spend a lot of money but somewhere in the same range as I spent for the rest of my speakers.

I MIGHT be interested in the cherry VR3's for surrounds in my 5.1 system, it depends on how much your asking for them. Pm me with total price shipped to 04730.

I puchased the mcs130 back around Thanksgiving, They are driven by a HK AVR347, I am very pleased with the sound both from home theater and music. If your looking to purchase I can give you a link for a great price on them as well.

I currently want to upgrade my surrounds with BA. I currently have VR3 main and VRC with some Polk surrounds. The VR3's are great but might need a small sub to HT. Would getting VR1 for surrounds help? Would you be able to divert LFE to the surrounds with a Denon 3808?

If you can find some VR-MX (direct or diffused) or VR-M/EX (direct radiating), that would be the way I would go unless you have a lot of room. They sound great, match the VR series and have good power handling (200WPC). The problem is, both these speakers are very hard to find. It seems you never see them on ebay anymore.

As for a sub, think big, not small.

Room I got. Part of the problem is that it's too big. It's about 30x50 and really don't need the entire game room to be a Home Theater therefore it going to be a multi purpose room, HT and Pool Table. A sub might be inevitable but I'll need surrounds before a sub.

Have you ever thought about putting in a wall? I would isolate the pool table from the HT. I have been to combo rooms and you just don't get the Theater experience like to do in a dedicated HT room, imo. Remember what it is like to go to the therater downtown and have someone talking behind you or hear their cell-phone ringing.

As for a sub, for a room that big, you are goining to need one or more large subs.

I would make a 20x30' HT rom and leave the remaining 30x30 for the pool table/rec room.

For HT, get the sub before the surrounds. Going from no sub to a good sub will bring a bigger difference than adding surrounds.

Some VRX surrounds could be had off eBay still as well. The VR1 or 2's would make fine direct surrounds though, shame you missed the One Call deals.

For me, being in an apartment still with 4 VR3's (LR F&B), VRC, even while watching movies the XB6 barely gets used. But when I do have it going it makes a huge difference. Definitely get a sub, KEF, Velodyne, whatever, I only went Boston sub because of the good deal. You're going to want Boston surrounds eventually to get a better mesh with the VR fronts.

I've got that Denon 3808 as well. From the sounds of what you're asking you'd set the fronts and rears to large, and set the LFE to LFE+Main. That would give you the best bass from some VR1 or 2 rears and no sub. Obviously if you get a sub that changes things .

I've been thinking about that and talked my wife into dividing the room. To be honest, I have never seen a good looking multi-room that can pull off half theater and half other.

If I split the room, I wouldn't need to push as much volume. Are the Bravo II worth considering?

How do you like the 3808 with BA?

I did catch the VR3 at 1 call, now I have 4 but 2 are for down stairs in the family room for general TV and Music. The two new ones will be for the HT. Any recommendation on a general use center speaker? I have the VRC but want to reserve that for the HT. Just looking for something to replace the cheap LCD speakers. The LR VR3 w/o center just doesn't do it when it comes to TV watching.

IMO, I would use your VRC as the general use center and look for a VR12 or a VR920. I believe these are the best center speaker ever made by BA (to my ears), though I have not heard the VR14. I own the VR12 and the VR920, as well as a VR10 and the VRC.

I have not heard the Bravo II speakers though I have heard the Bravo speakers. There is just something about plastic speakers - I don't think they produce the quality sound that high density particle board speakers do. We did a comparison with the Bravo to my VR-M/EX (both direct radiating) and everyone agreed the VR-M/EX sounded much better. Granted, this test was done using the L&R front stage (stereo) rather than surround channels.

I have the same VR3 for mains and santa brought me the VRC (incredible upgrade from my Yammy NSA-3 center) all in cherry, which left only the surrounds to upgrade.
After reading opinions on this forum and considering all the Boston VR tweeter speaker options, coupled with my belief that the Vr line will become harder to find, I found the VR1's at On-Cal- on 12/29/07 for less than 3 benji's with free 3 day FedEx. I expect them to arrive tomorrow.
If space is not a constraint, I feel the VR1's would be an excellent choice/value for surround duty, I know I'm anxious to find out.
If you do get the VR1's for surround, let me know what you think. Good luck!

Update

Mains: VR975
Sides: VR2
Rear: VR2
Center:VR14
Sub: Mirage BPS-400
Power: 2 Acurus A250X2's and an A200X3
Processor: Rotel 1068

I ended up finishing my speakers out with another set of VR2's for surrounds. I got my first pair of VR2's at CC when they closed them out for $169 each open box. I was happy with this deal but.... I got the second at another CC for $145.00 each. $169 close out and 10% off for being open box. I really like the set up I have now. No upgrade plans until I get the room finished.

I love the 3808 and it drives the BA's really well. The Audyssey stuff didn't seem to do half bad.

Hear me out on this one, but maybe you should try using 4 VR3's for the HT plus the VRC. It works really well for me and I've got a large multi use room so it might be worth a shot. It'll make it easier to get everything matching well too. Then you'd only need to be concerned with finding something that'd suit your family room set up. For a while I only had the 2 VR3's LR hooked up, no VRC and have always had the Samsung TV speakers muted. The stereo imaging is pretty good so needing a center for a non home theater experience is a bit surprising. I guess it depends on how much you use the HT vs. family room. But yeah I'd consider using the 4 VR3's and VRC, find a good sub when you can. And for the living room, maybe check out some VR-M bookshelfs. It's hard to recommend a lot of the newer Boston lines though. Maybe the E series bookshelfs.

For those with VR12 Center Channel speakers... how is it positioned?
Did you get a stand that has a shelf that's tall enough to fit it beneath the TV, or did you go with one that has a top to sit the VR12 on?

In the market for a new stand, has to be able to accomodate a 42" TV, a good amount of components(Onkyo 805, PS3, PVR) ... and the VR12

If any of you could point me to an A/V furniture manufacturer that has some such beast, please do!

Thanks!

EDIT: Guess what i'm looking for is a tv stand for 42" tv, with 4 shelves, 9" spacing (VR12 is just shy of 9" in height) .... are there no 4 shelf stands for 42"+ TV's? sure not having any luck

I use my VR12 and the VR920 on top of my Rear Projection TV (I switch them in and out every now and then). For my Sony 46" LCD, I, like you, had the idea of getting a stand for my components and the center speaker. I had planned on using the VR10 with it. However, I couldn't find a stand that the VR10 would fit in. So, I ended up having to settle for a VRC to use with the LCD.

Just a thought but I use the smallest size black TV monitor shelf that's made for wall mounting (think hotel). Like you, I've got an HD Projection TV but in my case it sits in a corner that I've framed/trimmed out to be a built in. This creates a shelf above that my seperates sit on (very clean look) and then the monitor shelf has my VRC on it. It looks professional IMHO. My VR-14 is parked temporarily while I apply cherry veneer (WAF ) that matches the VR3's bookending this arrangement

If I could post a pic would it be useful to you?

All of the BA subs have their limits and work best in smaller rooms. I have:

VR2000
PV1000
PV800
PV600
two SW10 (soon to be sold)
Had a PV400 but sold it about a year ago.

I like the VR2000 and PV1000 but have to admit I have not compared them to any "high-end" subs. I just got the PV800 and haven't had a chance to use it other than to make sure it works. I use the PV600 in my Great room and it does really well. considering it is open to the kitchen, hallway, etc. One thing I did that really improved it was to buy a subdude to sit it on rather than directly on the hardwood floors.

I have a pair of A200s in my basement that the woofers were swapped in. Can anyone tell me where I can get an original or close to original woofer? I think they were bout in the early 80s, '83 if I'm not mistaken.

There's a pair of NOS woofers up on "the bay." Otherwise, purchasing another pair of A200s is your best bet.
Aren't they 10" woofers?

There is a pair for the A150 on that auction site. Not sure is these are the one's infinitesymphony is talking about. Starting bid is $29 w/ $30 shipping.
