Does anyone know anything about the HSi S6W2 in-ceiling sub? Also between the HSi 4830 and the VSi 580T2 for 5 channel surround hooked to an Onkyo receiver in a 20x14 roomwhich speakers would you go with? I'm in a two-story townhome working on the 1st floor so I'm very limited with installation options, as I don't want my front channels sending sound to the adjoining townhown.

When installing an in-ceiling sub, where should it ideally be installed relative to the listening position? The most ideal spot for me which I have immediate attic access is to the left and slightly behind the listening position. Installing any other place in my living room and I have to completely open the ceiling in order to mount the sub.

How would the HSi S6W2 in-ceiling compare to the VSi S8W2 in wall sub? The only place I only have one wall where I can mount an in-wall sub and it can be installed either to the left, right or directly behind the listening position. Height-wise, would ear-level or floor-level make a huge difference for placement of an in-wall sub?

Thanks!

Just ordered the VR-3's from Onecall (last pair). Merry Christmas to me!

I recently have run into some bad luck on my HD5s. 1 started to crackle a bit so I demoted it to a rear and moved the rear to the front. Now that front speaker produces zero sound.

I really liked the HD5s combined with a CRC7 center and PV600 sub driven by a Denon AVR-2310CI. It fits the room perfectly and are out of the way. These don't get a ton of use, mostly DVD watching and occassionally some music.

I have some weird attachment to the speakers but I am practical. I either want to repair the HD5s or get something similar as a replacement. I would appreciate any recommendation on a repair center or possible replacement. I would prefer to keep my wall-mount setup with the replacement, so size is limited.

If anyone wants to offload something, let me know. I am open to options.

Thanks,
EH

How about some refurbed CR67's or CR77's:

They would work well with your CRC7 center. I have CR95's with a CRC7 and CR57 surrounds and they are quite nice.

I finally found a decent used VR10 to go with my my VR3s that I've been using since 2007 and picked up a decent AVR. Never got the setup right before due to mismatching speakers and old AVR. Here is my current setup:

AVR: Onkyo HT-RC180 (almost the same as TX-NR807)
Mains: BA VR3
Center: BA VR10
Rear: Athena AS-F1.1
Sub: HSU STF-2

This setup is in my basement so a fairly large space. What is the best way to set this up? Crossover at 80Hz on both amp and sub, all speakers set to small and let Audyseey do the rest? Bi-Amp the VR3s?

Hello,

I am new to the forum but I have been a Boston fan ever since I purchased vr-975's new several years ago. I had them hooked up to a big poineer receiver...can't remember the model something 902 but it really cranked. Anyway that receiver crapped out a couple years ago so off to Magnolia Hifi I went. I looked at the Pioneer's but I thought the Denon sounded better and ended up walking out with the 3808ci (very happy).

So I started adding speakers, first a vr-10 and vr-965's for rears that I found off craigslist for $450 (with a denon 588 (outstanding deal)). Then I read how the vr-12 was the center to get so I did...The 965's don't really fit in my apartment so I put them back in the boxes for later. I found micro 90xII and micro 90x's (got a micro 90 center as well) as surround A&B and thought it sounded really good which it did. well...

The guy I bought the micro 90's from called me and said he had a vr-12 for sale for $175 so being the speaker nut I am I said yes and it got me thinking about using vr-12's as surrounds so I've been looking for a 3rd. Today on craigslist a pair of vr-m50 showed up for $165 a few miles away so I got them this morning...

The 4 micro 90's are now in the spare room sitting with 4 cr6's and various other spare stereo equipment. So long story long...I re-hooked up the vr-10 as a center for now until I can get another vr-12, the 975's main, vr-m50's on the side and the vr-12's in the rear. (965's still in boxes). All I can say is wow. I am giving notice at the end of the month so I can fully appreciate this set-up. I found a house with no close neighbors : )

Quite an impressive setup! I'm sure that is extremely pleasing to listen to.

I too have 975s and a vr12, the best HT setup I've have the luck of listening to. Not sure there is much of a reason to upgrade from these glorious speakers for quite some time!

I have a pair of Boston T1030's for my front speakers. For too many years they've been mismatched with a Kef center speaker. It's never really bothered me but I assume that a good matching center channel will make me realize what I've been missing out on.

I'm in the midst of making major changes to my AV gear so thinking about a new center channel speaker now.

I know I should get Bostons but will current Boston speakers match well with my main speakers that are as old as mine? Boston's current center speakers seem to be matched to go with the current Boston lineup.

In researching this a bit I'm thinking of getting a used VR920 or even VR12 if I can find a decent deal on one. Would those be better matches for my main speakers than Boston current center speaker offerings?

TIA for any advice/suggestions/help.

Ebay right now had a vr920 for 185.00 buy it now, looked to be in great shape.. That is about as low of a price I have ever seen for the vr920. Plus it a great speaker.. But if you got the room get the vr12, To me sounds a little better, but im happy with my 920.

My question was more about how good of a match the speaker would be with my T1030's. Is there Boston center speaker I should consider that would be a better match?

And how good would the current lineup of Boston centers be?

How do you guys feel about 3 Boston CS26s for the fronts (L C R)?
Use: 50% movies, 40% games, 10% music

As long as the one, that you use for the center is sitting
straight up.
Yes sir!

My concern is; how hard can the CS26s be pushed being the 3 fronts and all?
I'm using an SVS PB10 sub and an H/K 2600 receiver.

They will be fine - let the sub handle the lower bass. The HK is
a 65 watt receiver.
Remember - with any speaker, always turn it douwn when you hear distortion.

I have some old VR950s and a Yamaha RX-V365, which does 5.1 at 100 watt/ch.
I am looking to upgrade a bit and am looking to buy two CS 26's for surrounds and a CS 225C. Will the speakers I plan on buying match the ones I have?
You can use the CS26 for surrounds - Get a VR center to handle
the center duties. Look at this.

I like the look of those much more. I somehow didn't think the 225C would be adequate for a center.

Or to save a bit of cash use CR57 or CR67 refurbs for the surrounds:

I have a pair of old HD9's. Would any of the current speakers match tonally for a center channel? If not, what would have been a good match that I could look for used. For the surrounds, it would be best to get in ceiling speakers. Would there be a tonal match, I realize it is slightly less important for the surrounds to be a tonal match than the fronts and the center channel.

Hey all first time poster, been lurking a few weeks.

We have been very happy with our BA's, really adds to the experience when listening to music or watching a movie. Our set might be considered old but here goes:

VR-M90 floor standing
VR-12 center ... surprised they discontinued this so quickly
VR-M50 presence speakers
VRX surround speakers ... need to find two more since we expanded the room
VR-M/EX rear surround

(2) Yamaha YST-SW1500 12" sub's ... better than their name suggests

We have these hooked to a Yamaha RX-Z9 and they take whatever it throws at them.

Hello everyone!
I'm an Italian user of Boston Acoustics. I do not speak English well and I will use a translator. Excuse me.
In Italy there are a lot of information of the CS series.
I bought CS 225, 226 and the surround 26.
I am happy for the warm sound, are penetrating the medium-low, the highs are clear and not annoying. I can see a film at high volume without any discomfort, I am caught up in the film.
I was undecided between the CS and the klipsch rf 52.
My amp is a onkyo 608, I wonder if it is a good fit with the Boston cs?
With metal music are not satisfied, why do not I hear the sound clean and clear. Perhaps because they are too close to the speakers ... but my room is small (4x3 meters).

The HD series was superceded by the CR series so perhaps the CRC center would do the trick. I think the current CS series replaced the CR series so the CS 225C might also be worth a try.

my system.
unfortunately they do not feel the bass.

@clonex

For its price the cs225 is excellent.
Hi all. Been awhile.
I've been listening to my HT for about a year now, and have come to the conclusion that my center (CS 225c) is the 'hole' in the middle of the soundstage. It just doesn't compete with the VR2's for either dialog or surround music.
I've looked online for used VR series centers, but have been unable to find any.
I'm wondering how the VS 224 or 325 center would sound with the VR's?
The rears are Bravo II's. Amp is Elite VSX-03TXH, & sub is CS Sub-10.
Thanks.

Dan

It's not, hence my post!

I might grab that VRC as well. Much cheaper than the VS stuff.
Thanks for the onecall link.

^ I have a surplus VR-series center channel in great condition. You've got PM.
