That's excellent.

Not sure on how to wall mount the 260s and won't really be doing so for a while anyway as my basement isn't finished yet.

As for the receiver, I don't have one of those to drive the speakers yet either. But I really like the sound of BA speakers and wanted a set of the 336s. When I saw the price of the 5.1 setup (I have a pair of in-ceiling BAs for the rear surrounds to bump it up to 7.1) I simply couldn't let it go. So I'll have mine sitting in boxes for probably 8-10 months or so. Tragic but maybe next year at this time I can pick up just the right receiver and a nice 80" Sharp.

The 260 is not really good for wall mounting - that port needs room to breathe.

Ok, thanks.

If I was able to mount it on a standout platform and secure it in some way, would that work? It would be mounted sideways facing into the center of the room so a rear port would be clear.

I'll be mounting it to the telepost as seen in the picture below (assuming it could be done) and onto the side of the telepost. You can see the plug for the speaker wire on the telepost and the back of the speaker would be facing that way (does that make sense?). The enclosure for the telepost is about 7" by 9.5" in size with a 2x6 beneath the drywall, so it would be sturdy. Just not sure how to secure it there.

Alternately I can use the 260s in another part of the basement as a pair of stand alones for just music applications as they're probably better than what I'd otherwise have purchased.

^^^^ Mount them on a stand out platform, and give the port a few inches
to breathe.

Done (or rather it will be done). Thank you sir.

I have 2 vs224 in maple and 1 in black for sale if anyone is interested. Should go well with other vs series speaker or by themselves as front and center.

What gauge speaker wire (above ceiling) with the vs set

Three 6' runs
Two 32' runs
Two 46' runs

using denon 1910

Thanks!

Just curious....any love for the Boston Acoustic A360? Audioholics reviewed them and gave them a "Gotta Have It".

Nice deal indeed. I wonder how these would stack up against Focal 826v's?

I'm at wits end trying to find a compact bookshelf or wall speaker that has a 5" woofer for my bedroom. Today I ran across the old CR67 that looks like it might fit the bill. I've only found one seller from ebay so I'll have to jump on it if I want it now, but would you all say that paying $150 for a used pair is worth it, or is there something better in that size?

I'm also looking at the compact A25, but there isn't a lot of info on them. They are very attractive, but what about performance? I'll be running a Outlaw M8 with this setup.

I've looked at a lot of bookshelves, but they all seem very big and very obtrusive hanging from a wall.

TIA

The CR67 is rear ported, and not reccomended for wall mounting.
The bass is decent for their size, and they are good sounding.

This is a better price

I am thinking about purchasing the VS 336 for fronts, the vs325c for center and vs260 for the surrounds. I have the Pioneer Elite SC-37 for a receiver, I don't really want to spend the money an an external amp, The sc-37 has 140w per channel, and i noticed that the VS 336's have a sensitivity rating of 87db...will the SC-37 be enough to power the VS 336's or should i look at other speakers with a higher sensitivity rating?
^^^^ The Pioneer will handle them.

Sounds like they're just okay and aren't really worth seeking out in the used market? I hear you on the read ported design. I wonder why they come with key hole cutouts, if they aren't designed to be placed on the wall.

I'm steering clear of Darkmart, after reading their less than favorable reviews. Sounds like they are a bunch of crooks to me.

What about the A25..Anyone?

I may have to go with the Infinity Primus 152s or JBLs. They are both at decent prices but they are really big.

I use to own them - they are good - some people put them on the wall
any way - and they boom. They sound more natural, and all around better
off the wall. I do not know, if I would buy from Dakmart - and I do not
think, that I would pay $150 on Ebay. I can not speak for tha A25

Vanns has some crazy-looking deals on the VS series. I'm looking specifically at the VPS 210 subwoofer. Anybody have any experience with this one?

Have them with a Denon 4311ci. They sound fantastic. Great speakers imo. The Mirage OMD-28's might be a better deal but didn't want to take a chance on the omni-direction.

A word about the vs 260's. Odd bookshelfs in that they have a rear foot which makes placing them on a stand a bit of a challenge. Went with transdeco stands that are a perfect match and some velcro and blu tack. Speakers are very secure.

Checked into this in the sub forum. The overwhelming opinion was to take the money and get a HSU or some other ID dedicated sub manufacturer.

Thanks a bunch! The search continues.

Yeah i looked at the OMD-28s, but as you i was hesitant on the omni-direction, especially because i have an open floor plan were my system is setup, not a dedicated theater style room.

As for the vs 260s, will they be hard to wall mount, i currently have polk audio monitor 40s which are mounted on the wall via a speaker mount that can swivel and be angled down too.

Ditto on wall mounting ? though I realize less than ideal
anyone know if these would work
http://www.amazon.com/Pinpoint-AM-40...2567400&sr=8-3

...especially due to curvature of speaker and foot ..
If you're talking about the VS 260's...I don't see that working unless you find a way to bolt the rear foot to the plate. I'm not sure I would trust velcro and blu tack with a tilt like that. Picture the 260 viewed from the side as a womans shoe with a taller heel. I can see why they couldn't sell these in volume. The bookshelfs can't be mounted easily. On the other hand I understand why they had to follow the same paradigm as the fronts.

But I found a solution for the bookshelves that looks great and I get to listen to truly great speakers at a discounted price. You can too with a little ingenuity.

What was the solution you came up with

transdeco black stands 24", velcro and blu tack. Works nicely becuase the top plate is big enough.

Was looking at these maybe?

Believe there are threads in the back?

I have very limited experience so far. I'm actually experimenting with it in place of a pretty serious sub (dual 12" /1kW) I was using. Frankly, the VPS210 is still overkill in my smallish (2000c.f.) room.

I intend to stick with the VPS since it provides plenty enough rumble, takes up less floor space than my old sub, and matches the look of the rest of my VS speakers.

When I first ran MCACC on my Pio, I had the sub gain set at the half way point, and the Room EQ stopped in mid cal and told me to turn the gain down on the sub before it could continue. Its now at ~30% and about -5.0dB on my receiver. Plenty of SPL margin in my room.

Two threaded inserts. The Omni 30 will be plenty. I suspect one may have to make their own 'adapter plate' to accomodate whatever the spacing is on the Omnimount screwholes and the VS ones.

I made a steel plate long ago for some Rocket RS250s attached to Omni 30's. They were VERY solidly mounted to the wall.

You can also make an adapter plate out of wood, but its uglier...
