I thought about the SB12 but my friend had an issue with it not playing loud at all with his Yamaha receiver (667). For some reason he could never get it to play loud no matter how loud he turned it up (and that was after calibration). It was almost like it was barely on. I checked all of his settings and connections and everything looked good. I also found uers with Yamaha receivers having similar issues with their subwoofer. Now I know yamaha's don't have subwoofer EQ so maybe that had something to do with it. He did have an Ultra 12 like me before that though and had zero issues with it. So I don't know if it was a fluke with his sub or the receiver. I have an Aventage A810 so I was worried I might have the same issues. I honestly would like to just go with the SB12 though because it is sealed.

I had an X-ref 12 but had QC issues with two in a row so I gave up. Plus it's really pricey (at least to me) compared to the competition. I'm in Texas so I have to pay for shipping and tax from Rythmik.

Sounds like a sub problem.

Keep an eye on Ebay - if nothing shows up soon, then look
at the E50 - it is made to double as a center. It will not be
a timbre match - however, it will be a compliment to your
system. Be careful, because it can sound really good!

Hey, thanks, I was researching that and it's just too big for the space I have.

The previously mentioned E50 is at the outside limits of what my physical stand can handle without blocking the TV so I'll consider that.

I was looking at what Best Buy has and there are some well reviewed options from their local Magnolia store, though not BA, but I'm not sure my ears will even be able to tell.

That's what I thought. I started looking on google and found a couple of other users that had problems with a SVS PB12 (I think that was the model) and a Yamaha receiver. Then I found a few more posts (and a couple of threads on avs) about users having issues with their subwoofer (not SVS) and their Yamaha receiver. I personally have never had an issue and my last three receivers have been yamaha (765, 667, and now an Aventage A810). I have used an HSU STF-2, Outlaw LFM-1 Compact, Emotiva Ultra 12, and X-Ref 12 without any issues. It's strange but it made me wonder. The SB12 would ideally be a good fit musically and for home theater. I would prefer a Rythmik but I wish the FV12 was smaller. I just can't justify an F12 even though I want it. I also am not a fan of ported subs but I did hear that the FV12 was great with music.

I'm about to complete my new desktop computer and was after some good satellite speakers.
I just found out about the price drop on the VS240 and was thinking to use those with my system.

What do you guys think? I don't have a sub or amp, will plug the speakers directly to my Asus Xonar Hdav 1.3

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if any of you have experience using the A 225c center speaker.

I'm currently using the CS 225c for my center with floorstanding CS 260's for my L/R and two CS 26's for my surrounds.

Im thinking about upgrading my center to the A 225c for better frequency response, but I don't know if it would be worth the money. One review I read on it said that it sounded a bit muffled.

Any thoughts??

My speakers arrived a few days ago and man, do they look nice! I wired them up but I'm hoping to find some time this weekend to do a proper set-up and Audyssey calibration before sharing my initial thoughts.

fyi don't bother getting the Sanus NF24 stands because the top-plate isn't quite large enough for the VS260s. I'm sending mine back.

To further feed my addiction, any recommendations for a pair of surround speakers? Getting 2 more VS260s won't work in my HT room and the idea of spending the same amount ($250 each) for the VS240s is just wrong

I just received a set of 240s from Vanns. I had been using the HS 40s which are slightly smaller. They actually sounded pretty good with the 260s. I am just picky about having matching sets. I will make you a good deal on the 40s. PM me if you are interested. I have 4 if you want to go 7.1.

Has anyone tried bi-amping the vs-260's?

I'm just kind of bored, have the extra binding posts on my receivers, and am thinking of trying it out....

OK, call me crazy or obsessed, but I let the 240s run all night and I think I like the sound better thanthe 260s. They seem to have a much better mid range or at least louder. I don't know if that's a receiver issue or a 6.5 vs. 4.5 woofer issue. I am only using an Onkyo 608 on them. I tried about every type of music through them.

I am thinking about sending my 260s back and getting 2 more 240s and the 325C.

No, I have only got as far as thinking about it. That and bi-wiring. Although there is a several threads ripping apart bi-wiring and I just don't see how that could work.

For me in a small room, the 240 will sound better and image better. The
260 performs better in a larger room, where it tends to open up more.
The VS240 sounds a little more forward to me - all in all, it really is a nice
good sounding speaker.

Maybe that's my issue, My room is only 11x11. I also like that I can wall mount. I wonder how the 325 will blend with the 240s? I hear the slight transition between the HS40s and HS225C. Maybe the 3-way 325 will blend a little different.

I want to thank you commenters for your discussion of the VS 260 speakers. I had never heard any Boston Acoustics speakers and wasn't sure whether to buy them, and you convinced me. They've now arrived and I'm quite pleased.

They're hooked up with a 2-channel Yamaha 50 watts/channel receiver (I don't care about surround sound or home theater). They're not as bright-sounding as some very old Bang & Olufsen bookshelf speakers we have, but with a 250 watt capacity, you can really crank them up (not the B & O's).

For the money ($250 each at Vann's), this has to be a good buy. They must be at least as good as the RS 260s, which sell for $400.

The 240 can also work as a center channel - the 325C can sound a
little more open and bigger, due to the woofer size and a midrange
driver. The 240 may have a more seamless blend - it will come down
to your preference.

The RS260 is mid level - the VS was their flagship series. Be carefull
about cranking up that receiver, it is possible to damage the speakers.
The VS 260 will perform better and be more healthy, with good clean
power. Have fun and be carefull.

Thanks. Don't worry, I'll take care of the speakers - I'm just comparing them to the B & O's, which start to distort and rumble if you turn them up at all.

The 325C was not designed to be a l/c/r speaker - the VS224 was
designed to be used, as a l/c/r speaker.

3 VS240's should work as good, as the 3 VS260. All in all, 2 VS240
and the 325C, should sound good also.

Which end cap is that on the VS240? It looks like ebony veneer or something. Is that from Vanns?

Look at my post 15 above this one. I have pics. The boxes say cabinet black, grill black, caps ebony. It is light looking head on and tiger striped dark on top and bottom. Is that normal? Yes, they are from Vanns.

Also, I like the mid range in them so well I am sending back my 260s. I have a good sub so I don't need that much bass in my mains.

Yep, saw the pics... that's what caught my eye.

Vann's website says they're black, so I was a bit surprised to see ebony caps. They look really nice though. I actually would prefer them to the gloss black end caps.

I'm curious whether it was an "accident" that Vann's sent you those. Maybe you got one of the only ebony pairs, and the rest are actually gloss black as advertised.

I actually like them too the more I look at them. Vanns sent me a return slip for them, but I think I will keep them. I am going to order a 325c to go along with the front 240s when I send back the 260s. I would like the front 3 to be all black though, but if they are not I won't make to big of deal out of it.
