Hey ya'll. I have a pair of CS 260's The tweeters seemed to have shut down. I read about a poly switch on the crossover. Any suggestions or tips as to how to fix it. Will it null any warranty?

Posted this in the general speaker forum but guess I should have posted in here. I found a guy selling a BA mid 90's 7.1 THX set up for $250. This is much less than I'd budgeted but I'm not averse to saving money if this is a better than just adequate system for me!

Mid 90's Boston Acoustics THX set up - good by todays standards?

I've searched but haven't seen much info on these speakers. I have found a guy selling a Boston Acoustics 7.1 speaker set up from the mid 90's for $250. This was the thx certified set up. He has 3- 575x fronts, 2- 555x sides, 2- cr4 for rear and the 595x sub. This was a $2000+ set up 15 years ago.

I was planning on spending around $1500 for a decent new or higher end used speaker set up.

Question is, am I losing anything if I buy these? How good is this older speaker system potentially? Will these be enough to fill an 18x21' theater room?

He's well out of my area so I haven't seen or heard them yet. If these speakers are still a good speaker by todays standard it could be a heck of a buy and let me spend more money elsewhere in the room I'm building.

Any feedback on my above post? Would I need to get this new sub, or could I use my existing Infinity (it's fairly hidden so not too noticeable it's a different color)? Or would I even need a sub at all?

My purpose of upgrading speakers is for better sound quality than my current speakers and not necessarily louder sound.

What model Infinity speakers are you coming from ?

The Boston setup will be an ear and eye opener. I would fire the
Infinity sub - and depending on funds, aim higher than the Boston
sub. A good subwoofer can balance the overall experience.

What sub would you recommend? Are the speakers going to be a lot louder? I need to have a good WAF number as she thinks the Infinitys are loud enough.

Use the volume control on the receiver for the speakers.

Again please excuse my newbie questions, but I was looking at the A series lit again and noticed it only shows the A360 floorstanding with a midrange. All other A series only have bass and a tweeter. I thought voices came mainly from midranges and therefore thought the center speaker at least would have midranges, yet it isn't listed that way. Can someone explain this to me? Thanks.

It all comes down to engineering and design - with 2/way speakers,
the midrange is shared by the woofer and the tweeter. In general, a
3/way speaker should sound better - there are no guarantees. Good
2/way speakers, can out perform some 3/way speakers. Also, when
you factor in things - remember different levels and price points.

A4L has a single cherry E60 on sale for $28 lol.

That's too bad. I was hoping someone could make use of it in this thread. It's probably a mistake as the price is essentially free especially with free shipping. I hope you find a way to get it, Jim. Maybe call?

I tried to do that a while ago but the $28 speaker was gone from AC4Less. It was there for a second and then gone. Someone got it I hope!

I saw that a couple days ago and tried to buy it... Thought I had found the deal of the century, but no such luck...

That one and only E60, is back up today at 279.99 > must have
some type of saftey feature built in.

Finally bit on a used pair of E40's (w/ stands) on ebay that I've been eying for the last month.

Ending up getting them for $190... Tried to get them for a little less, since these did go for $250 during the closeout sale at Sonic Electronix at one point... but given that refurbs are priced at $340... I figured it was still worth it... Seller says they're like new, and has 100% positive feedback, so hopefully the condition meets my picky standards.

Won't have them til end of next week, since I need to arrange an hour drive to pick them up... but I'm looking forward to hearing them.

I don't plan to setup my vs speakers so I have these for sale:

1 pair of VS240 in black
1 pair of VS240 in black/cherry
1 black VS260
1 pair of VS224 in black/maple + 1 vs224 in black

Some of them never opened never used and others only opened to make sure they work. PM me if interested.

Can anyone speak of the timbre matching of the VR series (975 and 920) to satellites such as Micro90x 120x, Bravo series, VRS; the plastic cabinets. Which do you prefer.

Also still looking for a true VR920 mid-range speaker.

Hi guys, i am coming from onkyo sr 606 and Focal xl sib.
As I heard good things about BA, I'd like to buy these components:

Marantz SR-6006 (I have listened to it and like it)
2 BA A360 (I have not listened to them)
I have doubt on center and sub as review on A 225c and ASW250 are not really good.

What about an B&W ASW 650?
What is the best affordable (300-600 euros) centre for a 3X3 square metres room?

If you do not wish to give the A-225C center a chance, then buy
a single A25 or A26, to use as a center - keep the fronts timbre
matched. Your choice on subs - what other ones do you have in
your area?

Fact is I just heard medium rating review on A-225C center, that is all.
If you think it sounds good enough I will then buy it and return it if it is that bad.
Also unfortunately in my area (Amsterdam NL) there are not many places I can go to listen to HT devices.
I can shop for some sub online.
Which one would you recommend then?

I actually own the 920 and used to own the 975's (I now own the VR3's) AND I have the Micro90x as my surrounds. They are a great little speaker and WILL match PERFECTLY with the 975 and the 920 as they have the same Lynnfield tweeter. To be honest.....all of the ones you mention will match just fine as they too have the Lynnfield tweeter. Find the ones that suit you area best and go for it. Personally though I would stick with the 90's or 120's as they have a much sturdier aluminum enclosure.....for small speakers they weigh a lot. I was never a fan of the plastic speakers Boston put out.....they sound good but I just can't imagine the internal bracing is as good.

Another good option is the VRX or VR-MX if you like di-poles.....they too would match.

If I know what is available, then I may be able to
reccomend something.

Actually Boston seemed to use the properties of plastic to their favour with their plastic speakers, such as the HS line that I use. I was a bit hesitant at first as well, but soon found out I had no grounds for my suspicions.

The housings are shaped in such a way (and I would guess the plastic material chosen adds to this as well) that they seem to have close to no resonances. The baffles seem to have some kind of lattice pattern going on looking into the speakers through the port. Using the hands-on approach I managed to pick out one frequency where the baffle seemed to react to but not to detriment of sound, from what I could tell.

Needless to say they do indeed look funny and if expecting a wooden finish may seem a bit cheap, but not being able to afford the VS and still wanting a speaker that doesn't add any unwanted sideeffects due to bad conceptuation of the design they're just the ticket.

Anyone here using an Emotiva XPA-3 or 5 amp with CS speakers? I've got CS226 fronts, CS225 center and CS26's as front heights; surrounds are bi-pole of a different brand. Thinking about adding an Emo amp, but wondering if it's a good "match"....?
