I've seen on here not many people put much "quality" into their surrounds, opting for simple bookshelf styles while spending the big bucks on the L-C-R, so am I just over thinking this and the MK2s will work fine?

While I've been reading these forums and others for years, when it finally comes down to buy things i just get so much analysis paralysis!

It wont do any harm at all! the front sound stage is were all the heavy lifting is done, im running Jamo fronts and BA soundware S surrounds and rear surrounds in a 16 x 12 feet room, as long as theyre xover properly theres no need to stress it out wink.gif

Surrounds after the name are for surround/ing sound so that you are free to try any taking into account the impedance then into a lesser extent of power... just my opinion and i'm not expert.

Why not go with 3 A360s, or 2 A360s and then a single A250 for the center channel, depending on the height required? I use VR3 mains and a VR1 center, as the height and depth of the VR3s was just a bit too much to use in front of my display. I will never consider anything other than a vertical tower for a center channel again, it just matches so much better than compromised horizontal solutions.
Yeah actually, that was my first thought- two 360s and a 250 for center would be the best bang for the buck, but on Accessories 4 Less the minimum order is 2. I tried to contact them telling them I was looking to order a huge lot of 250s and 360s because after seeing the order minimums, I was thinking of a buying a set for my parents as well, and if they could work a cheaper shipping out so I could stay within budget, but instead all I got back is was...sadly... literally a sales pitch on how great the speakers are and how I better buy soon because they are just so good...

The reason I decided on the A26 bookshelf is because - it's very highly rated in this thread it seems, as well as all over the place, and has been reported as a huge upgrade over the A-series center channel. And 2) Amazon had an open box like new one for under 150 and I had 150 in Amazon gift cards. So while I would have loved the full 360 or 360/250 hybrid front, as I believe 100% with you that a vertical tower would work wonders for the center, I think having the big solid bookshelf, getting the benefits of a vertical setup, should get my by! smile.gif

Hopefully in the near future after I sell some of my old speakers I'll do the entire front as A360s.

My first post on AVS!

I have a HUGE love for late 90's Boston Acoustics speakers.

Back in '99 I bought a pair of CR7's (Cherry - which I've oddly never seen another pair), CR6's (black), and a CR1 to run with my Klipsch SW8II sub.

Now 14 years later, I'm realizing the AMAZING VR line has come down in price on the used market. So, I'm working on upgrading my setup.

So far I've picked up a CR2, a pair of VR 940's, a second pair of VR 940's (enroute), and a Klipsch SW10II. I think the next step may be to upgrade to a VR920 center channel.

I have a question about the VR tower bases.

In some pictures it looks like there are wide feet, and some picture there are no wide feet. Mine don't have the wider feet.

It appears these feet are removable.

I have no idea why anyone would want to remove them, but can anyone confirm that they're removable?

If they are, I think I need to start searching for them. My 940's are VERY tippy!

Also what are the gold threads for? Spikes?

I have a pair of Lynnfield VR-975s and yes, the feet are removable and the threads are for carpet/floor spikes

I'm looking for cheap (but not cheap sounding) speakers for a small bedroom. Are the A 25's worth $130/pair? The EBay write up looks good, but I want to be sure.

Hello, I need to have my 10 inch woofer refoamed in one of my vr 975 towers. Does anyone know how to detach the woofer from the speaker terminal? Are the wires soldered? Any feed back will help.

That's a really good deal, cheapest I've ever seen. Considering they generally go for that much each, I'd say its a bargain!

There's 5 days left on the auction so it probably wont stay at $130/pr.

accessories4less has refurbs for $79ea. People that have purchased from them say they look and sound brand new.

Not sure how to price the difference between refurbs for $160/pair and new. What should I put in on as a max bid? I'm thinking no more than 10% above refurb price, but not sure. Are refurbs guaranteed the same as new?

fwiw, accessories4less is an authorized boston acoustics dealer and they come with a 1 year warranty. i have no clue if the seller on ebay is an authorized dealer and what kind of warranty they provide, most likely some kind of 30 day return warranty. ask before you bid.

Hi Guys,

Long time reader, first time poster...does anyone know where I can get a replacement tweeter for a BA VR-M60? I have contacted the BA parts department and they no longer stock parts for this model :-(

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Any hints as to where to find a pair of these?

Also, I picked up a VR920 center. So everything will be matching smile.gif.

I have some old CR57 and CR67 speakers. I would like to add a center. What would you guys recommend? Seems like I should match this with a CS 225C II. Though the other speakers are white and i would like to have a matching white center if I can. Though I guess it really does come down to sound quality in the end. My budget is around $120 max. I personally would rather spend on a used one for $75 or so though.

Thanks guys

The matching center in the CR line would be the CRC or CRC 7, though I believe they only came in black. They pop up on eBay fairly often and are relatively inexpensive nowadays...

Would you say buy a used one of these or upgrade to the newer model that is selling around $120?
Think I will hear a huge difference in sound?

Keeping your front soundstage (LCR) timbre matched and within the same line of speakers is always preferred, if possible.

So the BA A25's end in less than 24 hours. Can any eBay experts tell me when's the best time to place a bid? Less than a minute to go or just bid now because it doesn't make a difference?

Unless the speakers you're using are bass aenemic, which these don't seem to be, you should be able to use 80hz as a crossover point for your setup.

The level setting for you sub (as well as your crossover setting) should be determined by running Audessy, which I believe the 1612 has. If it does not, using an SPL meter to match the levels of all 5.1 channels should be a good starting point... -TD

Has anyone compared the CR67's to the a25's.
I thought I'd post this here before going to the classified section. I've decided to let go of my 2 VS260s and 1 VS325C. Everything's in really good shape; I've owned them for just over a year.. The VS260s were used lightly in a secondary set up and the center saw hardly any use in a different set up. That's part of the reason I'm letting them go as I ended up separating them. I still have the protective plastic they were shipped with on all speakers and the original boxes so the cabinets should be in great shape.

Preferably, I'd like to sell it all together unless I can find someone looking for just the center and then maybe sell the bookshelves. I'm located in CT. PM me for details if interested.

Thanks
Curt

I am running a pair of BA VR1's and would like to add a center channel. Any recommendations what would work well with the VR1's?

Anything with a Lynnfield tweeter will be fine. The VR1's have the VRHO tweeter which is just a higher output version of the Lynnfield. Centers to look at would be:
VR10, VR12, VR910, VR920, VRMC and the VRC.

I have the 920 and VRC and both are VERY solid. The 920 is pretty much one of the best centers I have heard in that price range. The VR12 is also crazy good but difficult to find. Technically the VRC is the matching center for the VR1,2 and 3 speakers but any of the others I mentioned will work great. I have a 920 to go along with VR3's and it is great sounding.
