4 RC minis in my cart and 1 RC mini center all for $490 shipped. But I didn't click the continue now button because I have absolutely no reason to buy them or no place to put them.
I've got 9 year old Take 5's not in use and some old Athenas in the closet.
I would like make it clear that I am not singling anyone out (just quoting for reference), but for my own amusement, I find it funny how people complain they can't justify purchasing new speakers/upgrading or wishing certain speakers were in stock, meanwhile I have so many speakers that my RC-30s and RC-10s are not even used at the moment and have just been collecting dust in the closet for the last 3 months.
Saw the sale on the RC mini CC. I currently have polk RM6750 with Onkyo 605. Looking to purchase this as an upgrade to my center channel. Is the sound going to be completely off? I am leaning toward purchasing this because I have a size restriction for my center channel, has to be less than 6.25" tall. Trying to piecemail a new system together as money becomes available. Thanks for the advice.
do not mix the RC Mini CC with the Polks, just get a whole set of RC Mini's. The $90 price for the bookshelves is fabulous, I would jump on it right now.
if you can't afford 5 speakers, at least get 3 (the center and two bookshelfs) and upgrade the whole front soundstage. You can shift the Polks to surrounds and even do 7.1 for now if you want. The RC-Mini's will be a pretty large upgrade over the Polk RM's and I wouldn't want the center to mismatch from the front L/R so much.

That is a great price considering I paid 50 more for one that was returned.
I have a question. While I was Mounting the RC Mini's, I overtightened and the screw which lost some of its threading. Do you think I can find a replacement at Homedepot? Would Energy send me replacements? These things are very delicate as I did not apply that much tension; just enough so that they wouldn't move. I've got a tiny piece of shim holding them steady. But I can't move them because the shim will fall out. Thanks!
For those wanting the RC-10's, you can call them and pre-order which locks in the price, but they aren't sure when they will be in stock. One guy said he thought it would be the first week of November, but the next guy said it may be never
My RC-50's shipped though, excited to hear them in a couple days.
Just a note that I scoured the internet for a pair of RC 10s in cherry; nothing on eBay, Vann's says they're not re-stocking them etc. Energy discontinued rosenut and cherry as you prob know. I even went to Craig's List in most major US cities and Canada, too; was about to just throw in the towel and buy in black, but decided to check local Energy dealers. Like, actual brick and mortar (crazy, right??).
Went to "Find Local Dealers" on the Energy site and finally found them at The Record Shop in Cherry Hill, NJ...selling me brand new (B stock, tho - which I don't mind) for $300. I'm psyched! Think they have another pair, of A stock for $400...any takers?
I also have a question - since now I have to upgrade my Take Classic cc and surrounds to match (I'm keeping the Take sub, however) - I plan to do RC mini's for surrounds, but I'm unsure about RC mini cc vs. RCLCR. I am definitely a movie watcher...this will be paired with Denon 3805 and Oppo BDR.
Thoughts? All things being equal, wouldn't mind having a smaller footprint and saving about $100-odd by sticking with the RC mini cc. But if the RCLCR is a significant upgrade...I can be convinced.
Anyone have thoughts? Batpig? (I have read a lot of your advice - thanks!)
In a small/medium room, at moderate volumes the Mini CC will be perfectly adequate. In fact, if you don't have enough space to "let it breathe" the RC-LCR can sound more congested than the Mini CC. Plugging the ports in the RC-LCR helps, but if it's going to be jammed in a tight space near reflective surfaces it can get a little "chesty" at moderate volumes.
If you have a largish room, and/or will want to crank it up sometimes, the RC-LCR is unequivocally better. It is MUCH bigger and also capable of much more bass. I don't remember if your 3805 model can do independent crossovers by speaker, but that could also be a factor if you have to use one crossover freq for all your speakers.
And while the RC-LCR isn't in stock in cherry, it wouldn't be a bad idea to grab one of the returned RC-LCR's that Vann's is selling for $270 shipped (check the sidebar on the right): http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it..._c=site_search
My overall opinion is that, if you are a big movie buff, grab one of those $270 RC-LCR's and don't look back. That is an awesome price and the RC-LCR is, overall, a substantially better speaker than the Mini CC. Unless you are in a very small room and only watching at moderate volumes, you will never regret the purchase.
I did see the returned/clearance ones - for the surrounds and either center channel option.
The room is 12x14, so medium-small. However, I don't plan to live here forever...my next living room will be bigger.
Truth be told, I care most about dialogue clarity. The actual timbre and audio quality of even my Take cc is fine...periodically, though, I miss something that's said and have to rewind. Don't know if that's the mix, the speaker, my ears/brain...anyway, it bugs me. Doesn't happen at the movies. On that basis...think the RC-LCR still is an upgrade?
As for crossover...I confess I have no idea what that means and will have to google that...so much to know...
Should I be setting my RC-50's and RCLCR has large or small speakers in my Pioneer VSX-21TXH setup menu?
If you have a subwoofer, you want to set them all up as small. If you don't, you can try leaving the RC-50s as large and check how they sound.
The small/large receiver setting is not really about the size of the speaker but the crossover point. Large sends the full sound spectrum to the speakers, whereas small only sends the frequencies about the crossover point (e.g., 80Hz).

Depends on weather or not you have a sub. If you have a sub you should set them as small and cross them over at maybe 40 or 60hz (60 is probably better) if you wanted to use some bass from the mains. If you don't have a sub then you should set them to large.
Floor stander's can go low but they can't go low as well as a sub, sending more to a powered sub will also free up your amp to send more power to the 50's and LCR. It sounds like the main reason to cross over floor standers is you want to set up your 50's to produce the best stereo imaging and soundstage while you need to worry about wall boundaries for bass so the best place to put your sub is usually not where you want to put your main speakers.
I finally have everything set up and think I'm done buying speakers. I did have a great HT moment when I was showing my speakers and my stepmother said the speakers dissapeared. She isn't into HT so I thought that was pretty cool.
I wanted to thank afrogt and subiefast for their advice on the omnimount stand:
I'm using this with the LCR and it seems to hold the speaker no problem. I have a rear projection tv so the stand has plenty of support and I used all of the sticky pads. Those things are sticky as hell so make sure you have it where you want it before you put it down. I assembled the entire stand and put it on the tv without the sticky pads. I measured each side to get the stand in the middle of the TV and put some tape down to mark the edges of the stand, got the legs adjusted to the right length. Then I just put on all of the sticky pads, put the front between my marking tape and then pushed the legs down wherever they ended up.
I ended up returning the mini CC for the LCR but I really didn't have a problem with the mini CC. That is a really nice speaker I just figured if I had the space I may as well use it. I was in the time frame where I should have paid a restocking fee for the return but vanns didn't charge me and gave me the package rate on the LCR. They also sent me an email saying they credited my account a day or two after they received the shipment. Overall I think vanns did an exceptional job with the return.
I also had the qualms about the 30's with the LCR for the giant turd factor but I don't really mind it too much. Part of is I just don't want to ship 80lbs but I like the way they sound together. The LCR looks beefier but it is pretty shallow and it has the same woofers and tweeter as a 30. Overall I think it sounds great so I haven't really thought about upgrading to 50's.
My next step is I was looking at acoustical treatments. Seems pretty cheap and easy to build the panels and bass traps so I'm just going to build a few and see what happens.
Okay thanks for the advice guys. I will try and set the speakers to small when I get home and see how it sounds.
Right now I'm using my roommates subwoofer that came from a Yamaha HTIB that he insisted I use. Would just be better to not use it?
For movies I would use the sub because it can probably still go lower than the 50's and you really want to get the low end in movies. For music just try it out either way and see which you prefer. It's pretty easy to change this without setting your crossover, if you set your receiver to stereo it will use the sub and if you set it direct it will go full range to the 50's. So you can flip back and forth and see what works better.
I'm surprised to see the Energy clearance still going. I got in on it a few months back, got the RC70/RCLCR/RC10 thing going on, but now I want height/width speakers so I'm looking for RC Minis in Rosenut. Any ideas? Neither Vanns nor AA have any it seems.
I think the RC minis in Rosenut are all gone from Vanns. There are some new on ebay for $299/pr. You can use the Bing cashback and save 8% which helps a little. Or maybe you should get the cherry instead. Sure its a little lighter in color but you have them as height speakers. So they'll be pretty high up maybe not as noticeable?

Those sticky pads are very sticky. What I did was attach some velco squares to the stand and a Velcro square on the TV. Lined it all up and fits the same. Since its my roommates HDTV its easier to remove the Velcro pads from the TV than those included pads. Been there for 2 years now with no problems.
Setting up Take Classic with V8 sub, running off Onkyo SR707. Want to add 2 nice fronts for stereo and complete my 7.2 system. Recommendations would be appreciated.

I just know because tried to move my stand over a little when I had the front down and the stand was pretty much cemented to my TV. Velcro seems like a great idea because I don't think I could get the stand off of the TV in one piece. I don't plan on moving it so I don't mind but that is a great alternative.
I have to say sound difference between having my CC under the TV and this is amazing. I still had my mini CC when I set up the stand so I hooked it up to compare and it overpowered everything else. So I'm sure my amp is saving some power and I get clearer dialogue. The stand also keeps the LCR pretty far away from the wall so I don't need to plug the ports. Probably the best bang for my buck investment in the whole system.
Well I just called Vanns and I am going to get a replacement RC-50 shipped. I realized that the point the wood was broken could be detrimental in the future. The wood that was broken and loose was the wood on the one corner of the base that the needle is held on. Int the future if that broke off completely I probably couldn't hold the RC-50's up properly. I need to package the RC-50 back up for fedex to pick up at some point.
