If you've got room, the RC-70 would make a great center. A little bigger than your RC-50s but that's okay.

Definitely make the leap... I had a pa-120 for a few months, and I was itching for an upgrade to an SVS or HSU. I bought an SVS PB-12, and I don't feel that I have any need to upgrade for a very long time.

That would be pretty awesome. I went the other way, in which my center is a tower that is one step smaller than my mains, however if i could have a center tower larger than my mains for the same price, I'd be all over it.

yes, for HT the center is actually MORE important than the mains L/R, so if you can fit the RC-70 in the middle GO FOR IT! And post pics!

I'm jealous again. A center channel RC-70 is something I dream about.

I tried setting a lot of different ways. Ended back where I started. I don't like the effect of limiting Audyssey. Sounds best when I let it run wide open, doing what is was designed to do. Will just turn the sub off for TV and FM.

I recently put in an order for Omnimount Wall speaker mounts for my RC-10s. However, found out today that Macromounts(mirage,energy etc.,) are back in stock @ onecall. I can return Omnimounts and order macromounts if they are significantly better. Any advise ??

I've had bad experiences with omni mounts, and very positive ones with macro mounts.

Looks like I'll need to buy a smaller hex wrench attachment before I can swap the tweeters. Hm, I thought the tweeters aren't soldered on, but are just attached with a connector? The crossover may be. That's what I'm worried about.

Has anyone here performed surgery with their RC's?

uh same thing happen to me, but when i called to return the rc-50 they said they have a last one in stock. but haven't heard form them regarding shipping the replacement yet. Crossing my finger . wwstereo should double box like vanns do, that would have avoid a lot of shipping problem.

I searched the thread and didn't really find an exact answer to my question...so..I have some Connoisseur C-9's in maple, and I love them, but It would be awesome if I could change the color to a darker cherry/mahogany stain. My question is has anyone tried staining their existing speakers? Would you

A. Stain over original maple
B. Sand outer layer, stain
C. Peel off veneer layer, buy new veneer (is it available?), DIY stain or pre-stained, glue on

or any other options..I just want to know what the best way to go would be. Thanks

just get RC-50's or 70's in Rosenut instead. that is not a real-wood veneer AFAIK on the C-9's, so you will not get good results with sanding/staining.

Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions and feedback. I got my 3 RC-10's couple of weeks ago and setup as the fronts and the RC-mini's for the surround. Everything looks good although I have a concern. I do not hear any sound from my surrounds unless I pump up the volume too high. I even tried different sound formats. I am running the speakers with the Pio VSX-21THX. I ran the AUTO MCACC and speakers set to small. I have the ESW-V8 sub.
Here are some nos from the setup.
L -0.5dB
C -2.0
R -1.0
SR -4.5
SL -2.5
SW -8.5 (all minus)
My sub is set at 80hz crossover. i posted this Q on the MCACC forum but no response. I will post on the Pio thread next. Any help or pointers would help.

I upgraded my c series to rc-10s 5.0. I compaired the c-c100 to the rc-10 for center channel duty, the cc100 holds up good with the rcs, but when I switched the the rc10 it was way better. I figured it would but I wanted to give a listen to both. I can say that the rcs really changed and opened up after 55 hrs of break in and I haven't even calibrated with my denon 789 and they sound better and better as the break in progresses.

I've read through the thread, have been searching Amazon, and have browsed through speakerstandsonline.com, and I'm having trouble finding reasonably priced stands for my RC-10s. Preference is really between 28-31 inch height, and I think a minimum 6x6 top plate. Price, I'd really like to be under $70/pair, and $50 would be great...

Has anyone seen anything in that range? I'll continue searching, but maybe someone's already gone through that pain...the Sanus BF-31b's are close, but only a 5x5 top plate.

Also, top plate for the RC-10s, what is the smallest you guys would be comfortable with? I will use some blue tack as an adhesive...

Wow!, I replaced an RC Mini used for center with an RC-10, using RC-10s as mains. A world of difference. I read it on here many times, but hearing the difference is amazing. Now I'm wondering if I should replace my surround mini's with RC-10s.

There was one review many pages ago about a Sierra vs RC-10. Whoever did the test said the Sierra was better. But the Sierras are $900/pr receiver so they should be a little better. The MSRP on the RC-10 is $599/pr.

well this are the ones I use for my RC-10's, and I am very happy with them. they look really nice and I got them on sale for less than $20 like 2 month ago. they do go on sale frequently so If you are patient u might get them for a reasonable price eventho this is under ur price range. good luck

After a lot of research, I think I've decided to give the Energy RC series a try for my home theater system. I am quite space restricted in my TV stand, so it's been a journey to find center channel/bookshelf speakers that will fit.

As of right now, I'm looking at getting RC Minis for the left/right front speakers, which will be placed around my TV--approximately 50" center-to-center. I'm wavering whether I should go with a RC Mini CC or another RC Mini (placed vertically) for my center channel. I know it's ideal to match identical speakers, but the RC Mini CC seems identical to the standard RC Mini--it just adds a second woofer, which I would think is a good thing.

So which would sound better? Does it matter? I'm building a HTPC and am trying to decide on its form factor, also, since everything will fit in my TV stand more of like a puzzle.

Also, in the future, I may move the 2 RC Minis to the back and add RC10s to the left/right front, at which point they would be on speaker stands. I'd love to start out that way, but toddlers learning to walk are putting a stop to that for now. If I move to the RC10 in the future, should that sway me further to either the RC Mini as a center or a RC Mini CC?

And no, I can't fit a RC10 as a center unless I set it horizontal, which I know is a bad thing.

Is anyone using an Amp to drive you're C-300's/C-C100? If so, did you notice an improvement in sound quality?

I've tried it briefly with my emotiva XPA-3. I'd yes there was an improvement, although it wasn't night and day. I noticed more of an improvement using them with my other speakers though.

Energy ESW V8 sub is $225 @ WWS this morning.

The Sierras are, by all accounts, better... but as noted above, they SHOULD be as they are much more expensive!

If you can afford the extra, get the RC-Mini CC -- it is a little better than the regular RC-Mini as it is slightly fuller, slightly better bass extension, and it is intended to operate in the horizontal orientation. It's more than just the dual woofer, it has a lot more cabinet volume and will definitely sound a bit fuller through the mid-bass (above the crossover) so will be more natural for dialogue. It will also be a better match for the RC-10 if you eventually upgrade, because of the above.

That being said, the difference is slight so if you go with 3 x RC-Mini it won't be bad. I am currently sans-TV as mine is in the shop, and I have been fooling around with my speakers. I took down my RC-Mini surrounds and have been re-listening to them in A/B vs my RC-10's, and as an experiment I tried placing the Mini's horizontally. I felt like there was maybe a slight loss of "openness" or "imaging" -- what you would expect given the change in dispersion of 90-degrees -- but the difference was very minor and I think it would be very difficult to pick out the difference in a blind test. So if you end up with a horizontal Mini as CC, it won't be the worst thing.
