I have about 5 inches of space without blocking the screen.

I see two possible set-ups. I can use an RC-Mini center channel and place it below the LCD and be done with it, or I can use an RC-LRC and place it above the LCD on the shelf at 71 inches high and angle it down to the seating position. The seating position is about 12 feet away.

Anybody have any experience with these set-ups and how well will each of them work out? I cannot afford the trial and error method.

Thanks.

I had the same issue sort of issue with my tv over my mantle. Very little space between the mantel and the bottom of the tv. I have RC-10's in my living room with a RC-Micro Center Channel and it sounds surprisingly well. The RC-Micro centers are hard to find separate from the 5.1 package but you can find them on ebay every once in a while. I paid $50 for mine. I've seen them go for $80 as well. My brother and I both found them. Just keep checking ebay. I also have the RC-LCR in my basement and it's an awesome center but you pay for it and it's bulky to mount on a wall. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong.

I purchased a ESW HG 8 back in December from Amazon. Recently the sub started producing a extremely distorted and loud noise with LFE content. Played around with it and noticed that using my fingers to apply presure around the LFE input i could pretty duplicate the problem. Bottom line is the thing needs to be serviced which would require shipping to a service center in Va. Because i am the impatient type I am inclined to just buy another energy sub and sell the current one when i get it back from the service center. Only problem is I don't know if there woul be much of a market for a repaired $200 sub.

I am curious what some of you would do.

BTW, the sub is used with RC Minis as part of a second system in a 12 by 17 spare bedroom, so using the repaired sub in a two sub setup would definately be overkill.

As far as the difference in sound goes.... the RC-LCR sounds noticibly better than the RC-10's. The tweeter sounds the same pretty much across the RC line, but the high midrange to midrange on LCR is closer to the RC-70 than the RC-10. The extra 5 1/2 driver and the two midrange cones make a noticible difference. Really that is a question of budget and space. Some people have done 3 RC-LCR's across the front and just use a good sub which I could see being a good option, but I went with the RC-70's paired with the LCR instead and using RC-10's for the rears.

Yep, but you might be able to negotiate and little lower price.

I use the rc mini center w/ my rc-10 fronts, sitting below the tv (slightly angled up by propping the front up with a strip of 3/8" height wood) and it sounds good good to me. Crossover is set at 100 for the mini center and 80 for the rc-10. This is for movies application by the way, i don't listen to music w/ this set up (got a pair of rc-50 for that ).

Nothing wrong with a speaker up above the screen. I would go with the RC-LCR. above your LCD. It will give you the best sound.

Plus that sub can be found at Costco for $99.

I heard about Costco having the sub for $99, but I don't see anything about it on Costco.com. If I did I would probably just buy it to have something while the defective one is in the shop.

I'm jumping in on the center discussion.

I am trying to decide between getting the RC mini CC in rosenut and putting it on my mantel below the TV or finding somebody willing to split the cost or a pair of RC-10 and mounting that over the TV (under wouldn't work, its going on a matnle over a fireplace)? I have RC-10s for my left and right, both in black. I don't think I care all that much on matching colors and the rosenut mini CC is about 50% less than the black one. If I split a pair of black RC-10s, with shipping it might be a wash or a tiny bit more expensive, but would match.

Thoughts on which would sounds better?

Sure, I have a thought. If you're OK with the RC-10 in that location, I always think a matching front sound stage is preferable. I have matching RC-10s across the front in my bedroom and I love it.

Center Discussion.

I think I am going to go with the RC-Mini CC center. It uses the same tweeter as the RC-10s, so the sound matching should be pretty close. I know there are several people on this forum with the same set-up.

Is the single RC-10 as a center that much better? And considering it will be mounted 35 inches higher than the 2 RC-10s, will that make a difference?

Thanks.
you are basically balancing the "lesser of two evils" -- a slight mismatch in the CC vs the Front L/R (RC-10 + RC-Mini CC) versus a big difference in tweeter height (RC-10 mounted up high). Personally, I would go with the RC-Mini CC in that situation, to keep the tweeter heights more consistent and also for aesthetics reasons. The RC-mini CC goes great with the RC-10's unless you have a big room and will really be pushing the volume.

Best of all worlds would be a 3rd RC-10, but lower down (below the screen even if it has to go horizontal) to match the others.

Is anyone using the RC-10's with a C-C100. If so, how do they match?

Thanks! I was thinking of using them in place of my C-300's just in case I don't have the room after building my new TV stand. It's a good deal on them and if I order them and decide not to use them I could always pair them up with my C-C50 for the living room.

Has anyone matched a price at sound distributors for the RC-10's?

So you have the RC-LCR with the RC-10's? Do you find it a better match then the C-C100?

PM me if you've got a pair in cherry or rosenut in 'lightly used/mint" or "new" condition that you'd like to sell. Thanks.

yes, a great match. i noticed placement is everything with the rclcr. tilt it up so the tweeter aims 5 inches above your head. i used a laser pointer for this. sounds sweet!!!!!!!!

What do you guys know about the OLD Energy Take 5.2 system versus the NEW Energy Take Classic 5.1 system?

Reason why I ask is that someone in my area is selling the old Take 5.2.

I was going to use that with a set of RC-10's for a 7.1 setup.
So I wanted to post here and say thanks to everybody who has contributed so much to this thread. It was after a full weekend of staying up till 4AM researching options that I ended up finally going with a couple pairs of RC10's and an RC mini CC for the start of my first "real" home theater setup. I had previously had a 5.1 set from Logitech (z680), and was using this for my surround sound for the better part of 4 years. I actually thought it had pretty good quality, but after getting these RC10's I have to say I am really seeing the difference. I have also put in an order for an eD a2-300 sub, which will take the better part of a month to get here. I'm hoping that will really be the cherry on top of my setup and push it over the edge, especially on movies that can take advantage of it

The problem with having nicer sounding speakers is the fact that I can now spot all the faults in my older mp3's that were encoded at a lower quality! One of the projects on my list now is to re-rip all of my cd's into lossless (there is quite a difference, now that I can actually hear everything!)

Anyways, just wanted to say thanks and these speakers are great

Congrats. You're going to be really happy with that system. I agree completely about how revealing the RC-10s are. Whether you're playing them loud or soft, they play clean, without strain or distortion.

Ya I love my RC-10s but does anyone else think trumpets sound scratchy or is it just me? Pianos, guitars, everything sounds wonderful but I find trumpets to sound like those birthday party kazoos...

Take 5.2 are just as good if not better than the Take Classics. Plus they come with mounting brackets! If you get RC-10s up front you'll probably want a better center than the Take 5.2 center. But you can use that until you find an upgrade.

RC-10s are getting scarce so don't wait too long.

Are these a good deal for someone near Cincinnati?

I'm still breaking in my new setup. I've been playing them at lower levels at night when I can. The manual recommends to break in for about 100 hours before really upping the volume. Can anybody give me a little insight on what exactly is happening during this break in period? Do the speaker components themselves "loosen up" during the first 100 hours or so? Is it similar to stretching your muscles prior to any sort of workout? That's kind of how I'm thinking of it right now, but I'm just curious. I really want to turn em up I mean I can play them at like -45db on my Denon 1910 and they are clear and very audible from a room away! I can't even imagine what they can put out at higher volumes.

Yep, that's a really good deal. The model below Energy C-300 cost more than that per pair on clearance. He probably got those C-500s for about $350/pr. That's the lowest price I remember when they were being blown out.

Those C-500s have very good bass, I think you'll like them. Make sure you can listen to them first before buying. Take a CD of your favorite music to test the speakers.

Through Craigslist I have the opportunity to purchase the 5 Energy speakers (no subwoofer) linked below for $180. Good deal or not?
