Kind of you to ask, quite well actually. It's sad to see the RC's disappearing, and with this current FS sale, I may need to purchase a few more to get ready for 11ch surround

I thought I would have more time before being forced into upgrading/adding but now I need to ask the hard questions. I don't have enough funds so I'll let you experts spend my money...

1.) I've been debating on nicer subs, I would love dual V10's, but for the money (unless I can find used in good condition, or a good deal) there are better options. Based on people from this forum I am looking at the Rythmik F12 or something from HSU. I currently have the V8 and a Velo DPS12. I like the V8, so something with that kind of quality. The Velo isn't bad, but I find I crave quality and I believe HSU would stomp my Velo easy. I would be willing to part with both subs or trade for something better. Would I benefit from one more powerful sub or two lesser (still better than what I currently have) but equal dual subs?

2.) I could very well pull off a 3rd RC70 for a center channel, but is it really worth it over the LCR? Again, LCR would be for sale/trade.

3.) Should I grab another set of RCR? Would you use RCRs for height, or should I swap with RC10s? Currently I have RCRs as sides, and RC10s as rear, but I could move the 10s to height and have 2 pairs of RCR for side and rear.

Which one of these would make the most difference? To sum up, do I go with a better sub or upgrade CC to an identical matching tower? The third option of the RCRs would truly be for future use as I can't run 9 or 11ch now but I figured I'd put it out there. In all truthfulness my system is just fine how it is now, but with the RC's being discontinued and knowing I will no longer buy Energy if/when I ever decide to replace my entire system due to poor quality of Klipsch takeover, I would like to get all matching speakers now so when I do decide to step up to 11ch, I don't need to worry about locating hard to find, in good condition, speakers of the same series.

I'm currently using a pair of infinity speakers for surrounds. Thinking about going to CR-10's. Do you think I will have a noticeable difference? Found them for 179 a pair just trying to make sure its a worth the money upgrade.

Current system
Denon 2310
Front L/R RC -10
Center RC mini
Heights RC mini's
Rears Infinity HTS-SAT

Room 14x18 9' ceiling

I just recently went from an old old pair of Sound Dynamics bookshelf speakers as 5.1 rears, to 4 x Energy CR-10 surrounds for 7.1, I got them on sale, $180 off from future shop. I'm extremely pleased with how they sound. They seem to be a nice match for my C-500 mains and C-C100 center. Powered by my Yamaha RXV-3900.

It's kind of funny to see the power rating for the CR-10's are 150 watts, yet the new center is only rated 100watts (whereas my c-series center is 125.)

When I play music in 7-channel stereo mode, the sound matches nicely.

How does the RC-50 compare to the Klipsch RF62?

looking for the most slam...

thx

Dude, I don't know where Energy pulls their specs from....My TAKE FPS are rated "200 Watts" and they are only 4.5" drivers...yeah right....and the LCR are 135 I believe...and they are 3.5". Either way, they can handle AMPLE power and sound great; just don't think they could handle THAT much.

Is there any overall consensus comparing the C-8's and the Audissey APS 5+2's? I'm guessing that the Audissey's can obviously go lower, considering the four (total) 8" powered subs they have in them...but aside from that -- overall sound quality? They'd be getting equal usage for music and movies...well maybe a tad more music.

What's a good price for the 5+2's? They're "The Energies I've always wanted!" -- very first Energy branded speakers I ever heard...but I want to make sure that I'm not spending unwarranted money (I already have the C-8's).

Thank you!

Use coupon code "LABORDAY" and they're $285 each with free shipping.
what was the original retail price on the rc-50s?

how would you describe their sound? do they sound similar to klipsch reference? bright and loud?

Absolutely not! Mellow and neutral. Originally $800 each.

Uhhh, they are even cheaper with what appears to be World Wide Stereo's alternate ebay store named Crank it up Audio.... $498 for a pair with free shipping. A fantastic offer!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

On another note, World Wide Stereo has the Laborday code going with some great savings. EX: CC-10 available for $153. And if someone really wanted the Rosenut RC-30's, the discount on those takes it from the premium price of $998 shipped to $607 shipped I believe.

I finally got around to setting up my new Energy 3.1 system. I currently have RC-30's for my fronts, an RC-LCR for the center, Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Compact, and a Yamaha 765 receiver. First impressions are very positive but I need to tweak some settings in the morning. It's great having a true 3.1 setup again and not just a soundbar.

I will post more once I do some further testing in the morning.

YOTR

Congrats and enjoy. I would not get to uptight about tweaking right now as these speakers really do loosen up (change acousticly) after the break in period. Get them sound good for now and then do you fine tuning after break in or else it will be a moving target.

Good point. These are the nicest speakers I have ever owned so this is a little new to me. My previous setup from a few years ago was a budget PSB setup. This setup sounds miles better so far and I loved the PSB's I had! The last receiver I had was almost 4 years ago so the Yamaha is quite an upgrade . It's been an expensive upgrade but I believe I did the right thing (even though my credit card might say different ). Regardless I am not going back to soundbar setups again. I don't like running the speaker wire (even in a 3.1 setup as it is challenging with kids) but the quality you get is simply unmatched compared to any of the soundbar/HTIB solutions.

Could somebody please convince me to not send my 30s back to AA at a cost of about $60 in shipping to get the 50s from ebay, please! I am the king of buyers remorse and upgraditis and I feel this may be a bad hobby.
I thought you were selling the 30s to your roommate?
That was somebody else in the thread. I have been searching for any type of comparison for rc-30 vs. rc-50 and aside from actual specs I'm not seeing much. However, what I'm trying to convince myself of is that when I get a sub it won't make a difference because the crossover will be higher than the lowest rating for each speaker.
If you're gonna worry about it all the time you might as well pull the trigger on the RC-50s. The $60 loss in shipping is probably worth it to keep you from agonizing much longer.

Do it, do it! Just kidding

I have heard both but not at the same time. I am sure that the 50s are better than the 30s but don't think it is a huge jump and you might not notice much of a difference if you don't have both at the same time. But... I think this is it for the RCs. If you are going to do it, is is now or never.

While I dont have and havent heard the 50s. I do have 70s and 30s the 70s have a way bigger, fuller, more rounded sound. Just comparing driver size, the 6.5 look considerably larger. I think the 30s as a whole are a real nice smaller size, but they also sound smaller too. I have some paradigm monitor 11 v3. The 30s (I think) have a nicer sound, but definitely sound smaller.
If you could afford to keep the 30s, maybe use them for surround duty and consider the 50s for $500. If the ebay 50s are truly from WW stereo they will be from an authorized dealer (they just dont want to advertise that). If anyone has the room, for the $100 difference the 50s are a no brainer. Consider this if you did send the 30s back, the 50s still end up being cheaper than WW stereos $600 sale price.
You could also just keep the 30s and hold out for blowout prices on 70s
I just picked up some used 10s locally for $300 and they arent mint, probably about an 8, but they are super hard to find in Canada, even used. I might sell my 30s, if I could find another pair of 10s or maybe just buy RCRs. The thing I dont like about the RCRs though, is that they arent real wood veneer, no mag grills, and no nice dual binding posts.

Yeah I was just discussing the various scenarios with my fiance and she said buy the 50s and then try and sell either the pair of 30s or 10s on ebay, she would prefer the 30s go and wall mount the 10s if I do get the 50s. I guess what I'm hung up on is will it matter in the small space that I am going to be using them in. I live in a town house and the room they are in is 20x12x9 so about 2000 cubic feet. So 1) is the room even large enough to effect it and 2) will I be able to benefit from the gain without getting the neighbors mad haha. I'm quite the HT newbie so I don't really fully comprehend the trade offs at this point.

I forgot about the additional $30 I have to eat from the original shipping price haha which would bring the cost of return to the $90 to $100 ball park.

I guess if you just kept them and sold them locally, any loss less than $60 youd still be further ahead.
I think for your size room you will be ok, mines about 13x19x8. I did find the 70s a bit boomy (although not fully run in) I tried the port plugs and they cured it. Even using port plugs, the 70s still sound nicer and have far better bass than the 30s.
My words of wisdom for most any purchases:
"You never (might) regret spending the extra bucks, but you always regret cheaping out"
You might move to a bigger place and the 50s are a speaker that you can keep for a very long time. Looks like the RCs are going away and probably wont return. The new veritas look like theyre going to be out of reach for most people for a very long time, making the RCs a classic and sought after.

Well I fell into some amazing luck today. A local store is clearing out the RC-70s for an unbelievable price (had one pair left). I wasn't looking to upgrade as my RC-30's from AA literally 30 days old. I honestly can't pass up on this deal so I am going to pull the trigger . I also scored an extra mint like new RC-LCR in black with all the original packaging. It is flawless and basically brand new. Of course I find an RC-LCR after I order one from Canada, lol .

So in case anyone is looking for a mint like new RC-LCR in black with all original packaging or a pair of mint like new RC-30s with all original packaging, just shoot me a PM. I would prefer to sell them locally but would consider shipping them. I really don't want to go the Ebay route and would rather help out a fellow AVS member. I live in Fort Worth, Texas by the way. Thanks!

Why do you need dual binding post for surrounds? You plan to bi-amp them?

Well I decided to look at my paypal account after buying a pair of the rc50s. It listed World Wide Stereo as the name on the account.
