Would you guys recommend rc 50 or rc 30 on a small basement? About 18 deep and 12 wide with opening on one side. Thanks.
I'm very close on pulling the trigger on rc50s. Can go by a smaller center given the size of my room or don't even bother if I can't get the R Lcr at this time? Thanks for the input.
What does this mean? I offered some objective info based on measurements which I thought some here might find useful, and I'm certain some here will likely find it worthwhile to exploring the issue deeper. Have you performed measurements on your RC-10's or wish to provide some other useful info?
I have no idea what you are talking about. I am new to the speaker world.
After checking last night, my RC-Rs definitely had a little protective film covering them and are attached with some kind of adhesive.
I inspected my RC-10's and saw that their decal was different from the RC-R's. The crinkled RC-R label probably will not be worth the risk of messing with it. I don't think I would succeed in removing the RC-10's label.
I mounted the RC-R's on the wall last night. What a difference they make. I really enjoyed them even w/ my G/F sitting next to me. The manual recommended 2' above listening level. I mounted them 3' just to be sure + they look really nice up a little higher.

I've got them with an Energy RC-Mini CC center, and the whole thing performs really well. I don't play them at high volume, since I'm in an apartment, but reasonable levels (-15 to -30 on a Pioneer VSX-33 Elite).
I have a reasonable size (13x17) room, they look great and sound excellent.
I found this today: a nice review (the CF-series) on a site called "AREA DVD" (I can't post urls). I know it's in German, but nowadays we can all understand it (translator).
Just want to show off my beautiful RC-mini to those who don't own it yet, though I know these crappy phone pics don't do it justice.
Out of all five RC speakers I've bought in the last couple of weeks, the Mini-CC is the biggest surprise. I didn't expect anything this loud or this clear. I'm totally buying another one to turn my 5.1 into a 6.1 (my back wall isn't wide enough or far away enough to justify two rears). I'm completely psyched about completing the circle, and with so much style ;-)
Also, I see you've got SC2 installed. Clearly you know speakers and games :-) Does your girl have a lonely sister?
lol, that Oscar Award in the picture is hilarious.
I definitely would have moved that thing before snapping a photo!
At least I had a couple of SF Giants bobblehead pitchers around my RC Mini center. Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain. And they won the World Series so they ain't going anywhere!
what front speakers do you have to go with the mini
I am running them with RC-10s and CB-5 for rears.
Yes, these came as a big surprise to me too. The high gloss on the mini almost outshines the RC-10s, and the RC-10s look stunning already. I didn't even A/B the mini and CC-5 out of the box, and I already noticed a drastic difference in quality. Granted on paper, the mini is rated 94db sensitivity and CC-5 is only 89. I adjusted the db accordingly when I A/B'd them and the mini is a clear winner. It is much more clear and detailed without being too bright or forward.
And yes, afrogt, I would have moved it. I was just too excited when it came so I was just snapping pictures with my phone. I did not realize that after I uploaded it, I left it there and was too lazy to remove. I would have it look more manly but my girlfriend basically lives with me so she has all her crap all over the place. She always says, "this is my room too." I am sure all you married men have this problem as well. Luckily, she's not that aggressive in stopping me from buying them.
I now have RC-10s, RC-mini, CB-20s, CB-5s, and a CC-5 in my 10x10x10 small room. She thinks I am crazy. Maybe I am. This was all within less than a year that I accumulated all these speakers. Now I am planning to get a Denon 1611 considering the price and the love of them on these forums.
I only wish I'd done some more research before my purchase with the CBs or else I would have full RC line, for even cheaper than CBs!

She actually hates SC2, like really hates it. She doesn't let me play so I rarely get a chance to play, only when she is working. When she is not around is when I make love to my speakers, otherwise they are either off or at 30% volume.
It is not, however, I paid almost MSRP for the CBs. I will not get much back I am sure, especially when the RCs going out like this. With tax, I paid....$747 for CB-20s, CB-5s, and CC-5. Someone who's done research can get 4 RC-10s and RC-mini for around $850, and I am almost positive that they would get the RCs instead. Either way, I would be losing money...but at least I'll be happy right...? Time is ticking down on the RC-10s, since Vanns are already out, and only AA have them now.

I have speaker/maybe some other problem. I noticed during the MNF (vikes vs bears) football game that one of my RC-10's was making a crackling sound. It seemed to make it when it was supposed to be making just the rain drops sounds (or the other sounds during the game), when the commercials came on, it was fine. I put in Star Wars Episode 2 dvd afterward to test it, and it made some crackling sounds during the menu, but when I put in the movie it was fine. I think I'm going to contact Vann's today, but does anyone think anything ELSE could be causing it? I just bought everything brand new this month (Onkyo NR-TX 708 reciever, speaker wire, the 3 rc-70's, and other rc-10). It couldn't be my reciever could it? I never noticed any problems with the other speakers, but I sit close to the one that crackles which is why I noticed it. It doesn't do it very often either, but sometimes is enough for me to send it back and get a new one.

thanks in advance for any help
That definitely sounds more source related than speaker related. I would suspect your receiver since it is the one constant variable when you're having trouble. I would expect you to hear the crackling 100% of the time if your problem was with the speaker.
what can I do to test the reciever? I haven't noticed any problems with the 4 other speakers? The problem is I don't know if I could have anyone bring over any other speakers/reciever to test it out .... shoot
One of the RC-10s i just got from Vanns had a broken tweeter. They said they are permanently out of stock though so I am going to have to upgrade to the rc-30 once they refund me.

I would suggest removing the speaker making crackling. Switch another speaker into it's place to see if it continues. If it does, it is the receiver.
Also, move the trouble speaker to the other side, see if it happen with that output. Do a little "design of experiments" exercise.

what he is saying, in plain english, is that the red and black terminals on his speaker are reversed (reverse polarity). Something inside is wired backwards so, when the woofer is supposed to be going out, it's going in instead. This means that his speakers would be out of phase with any other speakers in his system that have correct polarity -- so instead of combining, they will cancel each other (destructive interference) and you will get weird sound and phase shifts.
If you want to hear what it sounds like, most any THX-certified DVD has a "calibration" menu that includes audio tests for polarity to make sure your speakers are in phase. It will play pink noise (like a test tone) and then shift the phase between the two speakers, and you can hear the tonality of the sound shift when the two speakers are out of phase.
You can also mis-wire one of your L/R speakers (swapping red and black) and then listen in stereo mode to hear the phase shift.

They didn't offer to have the speaker repaired (i.e. replace just the tweeter) under the warranty?
