Velodyne SPL-1200R for the sub, too - this should kick my butt nicely

Oh, hell... here's the rest:
Denon 1920 DVD player
Pioneer 5060HD 50" plasma

nice receiver.............great combination with Energy RC-Series speakers!

I would configure 5.1 system. After speakers break-in (at least 100 hours) I would re-configure RC-70 fronts for bi-amp connection, they will sound even nicer- especially for 2-channel audio (check-out pg. 72 in Denon manual).

Yeah.........the previous Connoisseur series product is very nice and very highly regarded. Bottom-line, they definitely sound good!

However, the new RC-Series are a cut (or a few cut's) above in design and construction. They definitely sound better too. Moreover, an RC-LCR would be more properly voiced-matched to your RC-70's.

Would'nt necessarily count on, or wait around, for a specific RC-LCR/C-C3 comparison, it may never happen.

What is everyone's opinion of the Energy RVSS rear surround sound speakers? All opinions welcome
post #245 of 47663
I've had a pair of RVSS surrounds for > 4 yrs. For me they have a good dispersion pattern (there located on the sidewalls. The high end is bit cut off but for me that's better than screeching. The bass goes done to reported levels as the wall re-enforcement really helps. the mid range is smooth enough.

I have the crossover set to 80 hz so they run as loud as I need them to.

Overall very happy and feel there worth what I paid (450 pr)

Hey soundlovr dude:

Just curious, would you rather go for the RC-30's or RC-50's, I'm ordering soon. Thought I'd get your impressions.

I went for the 30's because they are significantly smaller and I didn't have a bounty of room to place them in (even the 30's are large for the room they've been allocated). Plus, I only needed to make music for about 500 square feet, which the 30's are well up to the task for. I prefered the sound of the 50's and they're a bit more efficient. If I'd had more space, I'd have grabbed them instead for sure. I think either will bring smiles and happiness, but the 50's are a nicer speaker.

yeah, it's a tough decision. Actually I kind of like the smaller size of the RC-30's as well, my space is somewhat small (apartment living-room). Can't remember the approx. cubic feet though.

The Yamaha RX-V1600 put's out 120W per/chan, it should power both just fine.

hmmmmmmm...............thanks!

I spoke with a dealer (Audio Images (610)437-1200) the other day about the RC line. Which as you know are manufacuted in China. (probably doesn't matter). However the RC speakers that they have he said aren't up to par. Energy representatives were said to have flown in to hear the speakers and admitted that they were not up to par. So he said the problem will be addressed soon. I didn't ask if it was the whole line or was it the speakers that they had. You may want to inquire before you purchase.

yeah...........I spoke with a representative at Audio Images in regards to this issue.

He said they placed an RC-30 and an (older) C-6 or C-7, side-by-side, and he claims the older C-Series "blew the RC-Series away", in his words. Although he can't speak for all other Energy dealers and representatives.

He claims the problem is emitting from the "mid-bass" range. Apparently, Energy (he claims) has to make changes to the cross-over to fix this issue. Consequently, he has returned all his RC-30 and RC-50 stock back to Energy to be analyzed.

However, the same rep claims his [new] C-series product performs very well.

You can call for yourself and see what you think (610) 437-1200 . I plan to communicate directly with Energy in regards to this issue.

Thanks, gondey99 for your information.

Your welcome, and Good Luck. I am sure Energy will stand by their product and if their is a flaw, they will fix it.

I am having a hard time finding Energy speakers online. Anyone know of a website that carries most of them? I want to get surrounds for my C-3s. I was thinking of the Take 2.2 Sat. Would this be a good match? The C-1s are a little too large for what I want. How about Athena's or am I better staying with the same brand? I will be using them mostly for music. I've heard that many people prefer not using bipolar surround for music.
Doc99, shoot me an email if you can't locate any in the US. Our shop here in Canada has both Take 2.2 and C1 in stock. I jhave the mounting brackets for the C1 too if you need them. I can quote you if you send me your zip code. marc@audioshop.on.ca

I would debate that claim the new RC are a lesser performing product than the C6 or C7. I've been intimate with the Energy products for twenty years now, owning and selling many of the speakers and subs. I've worked my way up through the models and now enjoy their V2.8 speakers tremendously.
The RC series has a much smoother sounding tweeter than the previous generations. The new woofer designs bring out low level detail that was well beyond the resolution of the previous generations. The wood veneers are nice too. In my opinion, they have set a new standard in lack of distortion for dynamic type speakers overall.

I'm completely in agreement with you Marc. The RC-Series are some of the best speakers I've seen and heard (at least the product I've seen here in the L.A. area).

Naturally, my thinking (from the previous account) is that there may be some potential quality issues with some known quantity (if that). Who knows, I'm only deciphering information.

Regardless, I'm still purchasing either RC-30 or RC-50's, I like them.

Yes. They don't have any Energy speakers right now. Just stands, at least that is what is on their website.
Does anyone know what mounts came with the Take 2.2 sats?

What kind of pricing are you getting for those speakers?

Let me know.

Can someone tell me if the Energy C-3 accept banana plugs? It seems there is no way to use them, but there is a hole on the binding post.

Try audioexcellence
That's where I got mine and they seem to have everything in stock with fast delivery.

I did, but apperently their website is under construction.

Try un-screwing the binding-post all the way off. Check and remove the small plastic "plug" from the internal hole. Then screw binding-post back on. You should be able to insert a banana-plug through hole now.

This is how most of their newer product functions. Hopefully the C-3's incorporate the same type of configuration.
I tried to unscrew them, but they will not come off. I did not want to risk breaking them.

yeah............maybe they don't function the same as the newer types.

Look at your Energy C-3 manual. There should be some explanation in regards to the binding-post function.

Otherwise, I would use spade lugs, actually they provide a better, more efficient, surface contact. I prefer the Monster "QuickLock" Gold Spades (Part No. QL GAS-B, or QL GAS-H), these work wonderful. You can find these at Best Buy

Wow! I literally had to use pliers and a soft rag, and carefully turn them off. Even then they were tight. But I seen the black plug, and removed it. Why would they make it this way?? Got me! Thanks for the advice. I knew the holes were there for a reason.

the banana plugs go directly into the back of the clear plastic screw cap things, i.e., when they're plugged in, they'll be parallel to the floor and pointing forward. you don't need to take anything off. the holes on the binding posts are for just putting in bare wire.

Wow, that website is terrible, but the prices seem good.

It's interesting to see that they are quoting prices for the RC-subs. I haven't read anything about those being commercially available anywhere yet...

Correct. You [don't] want to use the side hole. The banana plug should insert through the middle hole from the (outside) front of the screw cap.

However, on the newer models there is a small [internal] plastic plug preventing you from poking the banana plug completely through. And the only way to fix this is by removing the screw cap, extracting the plastic plug, then replace screw cap (per Energy manual). Not exactly sure if it's the same on the older (or previous) C-Series?

I noticed the regular URL (www.audioexcellence.com) has been non-operative for the last few days. I guess due to maintenance. Hopefully it will be back up in the next few days, because this other URL [is] horrible. Hopefully, not an example of their integrity and business organization.

yeah........have'nt seen any sight of those new RC-Subs yet anywhere either.
