Try the Hsu VTF-1 or VTF-2. The Mirage S.8 is also very good at your price.

My setup is rc-mini-cc with RC-30 fronts. No sub right now because I live in a condo and would drive the neighbors crazy.

The RC-10 would match my front RC-30's pretty much perfectly (same drivers), but I can get the mini's for slightly less.

Has anyone heard both of these speakers that can give me a comparison of the two? The only real difference that I see in the specs is the usable bass response where the RC-10s are 43 hz and the mini's are 70 hz. This may be pretty critical since I am not currently using a sub.

In your opinion, would it be worth it to shell out the extra $50-$75 or so for the RC-10's, or do you think there wont be much difference and that I should save the $$.

Thanks in advance.

If you plan to wall mount your speaker, go with the RC mini since mounts are included in the box. Also make sure you realize RC Minis are sold individually while RC-10s are sold by the pair. You'd also have to buy mounts for the RC-10 which would increase the price difference. If you're putting on stands or a shelf go with the RC-10 over the Mini.

The RC-10 is a far better speaker and I have both in my bedroom setup. The Mini might get to 100hz hz so the 70hz claim is very optimistic. The RC-10 has pretty good bass for its size, probably solid to 50-60hz. I cross mine over at 80hz and let the sub do the work for lower frequencies.

In order to get a more generic idea of how low the RC-10s can play, I used a disc of test tones that I generated in Mathematica, an integrated software suite that technical people know well. In my room, the RC-10s had solid output down to 50Hz and could still be heard at 40Hz. At 30Hz and below, output was essentially zero. If you feel that you need more bass output than that, Energy will be happy to sell you one of the three larger siblings to the RC-10, but most music listeners will probably be delighted with what the RC-10 has to offer in the bass.

On their own, I think the RC-Minis could be quite satisfying in either an office or a bedroom system, where a sound closer to full-range isn’t necessarily needed. At low volumes they positively shone, their clean sound making it easy to hear not just individual notes, but subtle changes in the volume of those notes. Retrieval of details was one of their strengths, and one strongly highlighted at low listening levels.

Of course, the problem with a speaker this small is that it offers little in the way of bass; I suspect that the RC-Mini rolls off somewhere between 120 and 150Hz. The lowest frequencies it reproduced sounded tight and well damped, but in the absence of true deep bass, a great deal of information went missing that has a profound impact on the way I hear and feel music.

Thanks afrogt! Exactly what I was looking for. Havent decided on how I am mounting them yet, but that definitely will factor into the decision. I would like to go with the RC-10 because i figured it was a superior speaker, but I have to try to justify the additional $ for the speakers and stands.

Thanks again.
Well if you have to pay too much for stands you might as well get another pair or RC-30s for $399.
I went with the CR-10's for rear surrounds. They seem to be less of a hassle to mount.

What type of speaker wire or banana plug you guys use for your RC-70? please advice?

I just bought some speaker wire and the closed screw type banana plugs from "monoprice.com" Basically any banana plug should be fine. It just makes taking the cables on and off easier.
I have not yet received my RC70s yet but based on my expirience with my older set you should be fine with the monoprice ones. Just make sure you dont get too thick like 10AWG wires as those are difficult to get in. 14AWG is easy and you need to do a little bit of trimming or force to get the 12AWGs in.

i was going to recommend an emotiva 10 in sub but i just went to their website
and the price is 369 now. I think I paid like 289 shipped. This was for their black
ash model which was cleared out. Now it is a black gloss and 369...

so with that said.. i agree with others who mentioned different brands. at 400
dollars you get several good choices.

I will probably get blasted for even asking this.......but what about using the Tempest II outdoor speakers indoors as my surrounds? Those would be by far the easiest to mount.

The driver materials are quite different so I assume that this wouldnt be recommended......and I assume that they arent even in the same class as the RC's.......but they are selling for $69 a pair on newegg.

Any thoughts? Even if you think I am a jack@ss for even asking, feel free to let me know that too.

Wont be dispointed with either, i have the vtf-2, gonna set it up this weekend. One of my co workers has the vtf-3, and he loves it. You wont have any issues too with the stf-2. falls right into that price range.

I bought my Ultra 10" last month for $219, but I had to call and ask if they had any in stock. They still might, but doubtful. Worth a try.

I've had my Ultra 12 for the past week with my RC-10s in my bedroom. I am happy

At least you won't have to worry if a pipe bursts above those You never know, you might end up being content. I wouldn't recommend that route myself but I have never tried it either.

there is very, very little feedback about the Tempest speakers in this thread. I think only one poster a while ago had them, and said they sounded great in his yard.

It's certainly a cheap experiment though -- since they are so cheap, why not order them and try them out? Tell us how it goes! worst case scenario, they are not suitable for indoor application and you return them...

Get any quality kind that you manually tighten or spread the prongs out. Don't even bother with the useless type that you just slide in the post and are done. I got my 7 speaker set up for around $60 and they are perfect for me. I can't remember the brand right now though but I have seen garbage types before that were extremely expensive...and mostly useless.

I really like the way the Monster QuickLock banana plugs work. http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=1272
They are a little pricey for a set of four plugs (good for one speaker; a pair at the speaker and a pair at the amp/receiver).
*I'm using them with C500s, not RC-70s, but I think they would work the same....

Hey, I'm an A/V newbie. Does good amplification improve sound quality at low volumes?

The RC main speakers are rated between 175W and 225W. Does this mean that you could easily destroy them with your amplifier?

They are exactly the same for the wire terminals but Moster is super pricey for what they are.

I think the Energy Tempest is the same as the Athena AS-06 outdoor speaker.
http://www.goodsound.com/equipment/athena_as06.htm

as well as the Mirage Oasis
http://www.miragespeakers.com/na-en/...pecifications/

Like was said above the price is right.

Yes and yes. The cleaner the power always the better the sound. But you have to be very careful when using excessive power. Wish me luck

I will be using the monoprice ones [HERE]. I am looking for a response about the DUALS, since I want to use them at the speaker end of the cable, for bi-amping:

Which type of speaker plugs should I get for my spring connections on my other system? There seems to be so many 'different' ones.

smokin deal! I was happy to stay under 300 let alone 220 (that included shipping too?)!

it is almost like one should wait as long as possible when it comes to companies
clearing out speakers... just look at what took place with the RC line... sigh.

I have never done a head-to-head comparison between the two but I used to have RC-mini's and ESW-V8 as computer speakers. I later sold them to get RC10s for my theater, but I still have the V8. From what I remember, the RC-Mini's are great little speakers, being RC's they are just as smooth and detailed as the rest of the line and although they lack bass response, they are punchy and still excel at mid to loud volumes.

Let us know how it works out-- I typically run my speakers around -30 to -20 and find that's plenty loud, so have assumed that an amp wouldn't really help much...

Yeah that was shipping included. They dropped them to $250 online when they were closing them out, 12" was $370, and then I called when they pulled them from the site, assuming they were still $250. I was pretty surprised when she told me the total was $219, should have added a second.

I grabbed one for $219 as well... Just wished I would've gotten the Ultra 12 for $369 before it disappeared...

...or another Ultra 10 for $219... but they've been gone for a few weeks...

Really though the EXL:26 became much much better then I have ever heard them. Pretty cool really as I had pretty much written them off until now. I am still being very very cautious with my Veritas, so they might get extrodinary in time also. I would be sick if I did anything to hurt my babies

How much did you pay for those Veritas speakers if you dont mind me asking?

The 12" went quick. But I think they'll drop the 10" again if you need another, to at least $289. I definitely get some "pull" to the bass toward the right corner where it's positioned, and wouldn't mind seeing how it fared with another Ultra 10" in the room.
