I didn't get the chance to talk with the guy today- his daughter was only one home and she did transaction for sub, he stayed later at work. I'll have to talk to him later about the 1.8s but for sure you guys will be first to know. jasonmichaelh I know you're local and you expressed interest, so I'll PM you directly what he says to make sure you get info.

the new Veritas speakers are very sensitive, and Integra amps are pretty robust. Unless you have a large room and/or are playing very, very loud, you are unlikely to hear a major difference with an external amp.

I know you trust your friend, but there are some long-standing "truisms" in the audiophile community that simply aren't born out factually, and one of them is the idea that "separates" will always sound better than an all-in-one receiver unit. There may have been a time where that was the case, but at this point it's become canonized without much evidence, and is often just a way to sell you more gear.

Now, there are situations where you DO need more power, but if your current setup sounds clean, clear and free of "strain" when you crank it up, you likely will not notice much difference. (unless you really WANT to )

If you want to explore/experiment, I suggest going used so your cash outlay isn't too much and you can recoup your investment by reselling if you don't hear a big improvement. I am sure you can find a pretty sweet used 2ch amp from a proven company like Rotel, Adcom, NAD, Emotiva etc. for $200-300 if you want to try one out.

Batpig, thank you for responding and the sobering response. Trying not to get caught in the avr vs seperates sounds better debate. I'm pleased with my sound and fortunate to have great toys to play with.

Much appreciated Macstatic. Now I just have to keep my hopes down in case he decides to sell to himself : )

For sure. Hey, now that we know we're local, what setup do you have?

I think I might be interested in an old Land Cruiser, lately (a 1996 or 1997). I had already noticed one in Norfolk.

I guess I could rent a car and go to Norfolk, VA pick one up and then drive back with those 2.3i's. Just kidding. That's more than I'm looking to spend.

I recently picked up a used (in very good condition) pair of RC-70's for 750 in Canada. I had been looking at getting these for some time but my finances never lined up with the sales. I am pretty impressed by them, they seem to sound better the louder they are played, not harsh at all and not congested at high volumes. I am powering them with a denon-991 avr and it's impressive to see how loud and deep the speakers will play with relatively little movement from the drivers, they have an effortless big sound to my ears.

I recently visited my local high end shop and my friend Joe, who is a wealth of knowledge and has 30 years of experience to qualify his opinions explained to me that amps can deliver a better sound vs a receiver. If this is true, can anyone recommend a good two channel amp? I'm looking for a rotel amp on audiogon, for example. Also can I use that two channel amp to power the towers and have the Integra take care if the center and surrounds? Please shed some light on the better sound from an amp opinion, if you can. Thank you for your time.

I most certainly agree with your buddy to a point. As long as your money is being happily spent, then you are the final judge for reproduction and detail. Allow nobody else to persuade you. You and only you can decide what the perfect combination of gear is. We are all sound perfectionists here, but only we ourselves realize what perfection is. I love some old school gear but that doesn't mean anything to you, except for a starting point. If it was up to me, we would all own original Veritas with Luxmans and Dual 1229Q record players. This wouldn't appeal to everyone, but it could completely satisfy many. Do what your senses tell you, enjoy the music and sound and then buy what is right.

You found a great deal, they are worth much more than $750 in my opinion. They do pound when needed and they can also tickle when called apon. A great well rounded speaker that will probably continue to impress.

That guy has 2.8's and 1.8's. I don't understand why people post clips for sound. It makes zero sense to me. Beautiful speakers though, wow.

I got the Outlaw LFM-2 all hooked up, and it sounds GREAT! I love it.

It really steps my system up into the higher quality level. My speaker sound improved changing to RC and my bass and lower frequencies improved with the Outlaw. My whole system is clear, crisp, and tight. I'm in heaven. (By the way my RC-LCR arrives Thursday by the end of the day)

I'm about a 20 hour drive from you, in the Toronto area. If you ever find yourself going west for about 1300 km, definitely let me know.
Where are those tree house speaker pics?

jasonmichaelh,

Congrats. If I were local, I would not have minded taking a shot at those speakers. Please let us not so fortunate ones know how you like them after setting them up.

Awesome job on all parties involved. Sharing the wealth here is proper, and I hope that jasonmichaelh is willing to let you and all of his friends experience what every speaker manufacturing company are hoping to have their engineers accomplish. Rock N' Roll

C-8's times 6. Rc-70's times 3. Keep on looking for a chance to get them

I own a set of Take Classic that I bought few months ago. The kit didn't have any sub. I've used a Polk PWS350 (10") subwoofer to complete my 5.1 setup. I was looking for an extra pair of surround to make it a 7.1 and found a used Energy Encore 5.1 is pristine condition for 100$.

The Encore seems to be an upgrade from my current setup.

What do you guys think? Switch my current setup with the Encore and use the Take Classic for surround (7.1 or even 9.1).

Everything is hooked to a Pioneer Elite VSX-30.

Thanks.

NOOOooo kidding! That has got to be the most moronic thing you can do... "Hey! Listen to how awesome my system sounds on your PC speakers via low bit-rate conversion from analog capture...!!" LMAO!!

Hank,

I am a little slow. I assume you mean the 1.8's are six times better than C-8's and three times better than RC-70's in your opinion. Did I understand correctly?

Most definitely use the Encores for fronts since you prefer the sound better. It makes sense that you might like the Encore's better, they seem to be a better speaker, and their price reflected this.

I'm sure it seems like a good idea at the time, but if people just thought things through for a second..

I wasn't clear, but you're right, that's what I meant. Don't get me wrong, I really like the C-8's, and for around $400 people would be getting huge value out of them (not to mention $300 for rosenut) but no speaker that I have ever heard is in the same league as those 1.8's.

I didn't have the chance to listen to the Encore yet. For what I've read they seem to be an upgrade. Satelites are about the same size, but almost twice the weight (bigger tweeter and woofer). Center is way bigger (it has one more woofer).

Selling price was about twice the price of the Classics. It probably means something.
