The RC speakers really shine with brass instruments.

That is definitely true. The song I mentioned has alot of guitar and some piano. Brass instruments from most of BB King's songs are phenomenal. Especially anything with a saxaphone. The reason I recommended that song was because the instrumentals ring true and sound like Eric Clapton and BB King are in the room with you playing a duet. Pretty awesome!

I just called energy to order one and they're $50 + shipping so for me it came out to about $56 shipped.

THERE WE GO
I have only been into Gramophone once as everything is just crazy expensive in there. But since you are a Baltimoron like me what High School did you go to?

To answer the question about why switch from my current RC's, I currently am running RC-30s w/ an RC-LCR and HSU VTF2-MK3 and feel like the 30s just don't give me the fullness in the mid through bass department that I'm looking for. So that is why I originally pre-ordered the 70s. But being an impatient mid-20-something with a severe case of upgraditis it is difficult for me to pass up a sale haha. Oh I forgot to mention that i have RC-10s that have been sitting on the floor waiting to be hooked up for over a year haha.

For those considering mixing RC and V series - I have the V6.3 with LCR and RC-10s and had the RC-70s. I find no noticable difference from how well the RC-10 blended to the RC70 and now the V6.3. The LCR is the same but keep in mind that the LCR was never a perfect match because of the dome mid range in the LCR compared to the Kevlar midrange in the RC-70s.

With similar construction and material of tweeters and woofer between the two I would not be concerned about matching especially in surrounds.

Well considering discontinued RC speakers are/were less than 40% of the price of their Veritas brethren, especially when most speculated they were using the same drivers as the RC, could you really expect strong sales?

I mean buy the Veritas 6.3 for MSRP $1600 or a discounted RC-70 for $600? Seems like a no brainer to me to get the RC. You can get two RC-70 towers and the RC LCR for that price.

I read a review that suggested that they are indeed new drivers (heavier) though the same construction.

I think this sale might be a rethinking on pricing and attempt to get some product out there into the wild to create some buzz.

They were able to knock an additional $75 of that price. $575 with no tax and free shipping - can't beat that, IMO.

I would love to have some tower speakers, but with the set up of our living room and space... even I would have a hard time talking my wife into it rationally.

Maybe, down the road, Ill pick up some floor standing speakers and switch the RC-10's to rear surrounds. Or, I don't know, maybe ill pick up another pair of RC-10's down the road so ill have them in the front and the rear.

I also picked up a pair of these... nothing fancy but they should get the job done: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Well, unfortunately Vann's really ticked me off tonight. Before I placed the order my estimated arrive date was tomorrow, 10/27/11. I spoke to live chat before I placed the order and they confirmed I would have it no later than 10/28 as they couldn't tell if it would ship today or tomorrow.

Well, low and behold I check my tracking info and my estimated arrival time is 11/1. So I contact Vann's and pretty much get an "oops" reply from customer service followed by an "even though we told you this date we can't guarantee it" comment. If they would have told me the correct date the first time I would have paid extra for shipping. Pretty aggravated with them right now which is incredibly disappointing since I was ecstatic with how well they treated me earlier today.

Could be a rethink. I see same great prices over at Amazon. 64% off on the sub woofer though. What is that all about?

After thinking about upgrading my RC70 mains to Veritas. I decided it isn't a good idea to have 5.25" drivers mixed with the current 5.5" drivers. Takes way from the theory, all the speakers sound best when matched. Plus it cuts down on the number of spare parts I may need in the future.

Heck of a deal on the v-10 sub though. At 64% off, I couldn't pass that up. Can't wait to match it up with my esw-v8,
post #32742 of 47737
Most of the amazon stuff is coming from Vanns. Noticed that it said only 8 6.3s left. When I think of matched speakers I think of tonal matching. It is common to mismatch driver sizes between center, Mains, surrounds. For example if you have 70s and LCR you are mismatching 6.5 woofer to 5.5 woofer and 5.5 mid range to inverted dome mid range. Same goes for 2 way RC-10s. Unless you have RC-70s all around and then I see your point.

That's a great deal, at only about $5 more than what they were going for in the private sale a few days ago. Congrats!

Like you said before, the LCR doesn't really match. I wish I could get an RC70 in there. Right now I'm running 2 LCR's for my center. I went with the RCR's for my surrounds. Made a huge difference. Now I have 4 RC 10's that have sat around for a year or more.

The Amazon deals are coming from HiDef LifeStyle.

Do you know the album title? Clapton sounds great on my RC's! A couple songs from some album called something like "Down on the Bayou" or something like that is just sweet. I can look up the actual title later if necessary.

It's an album with the whole thing consisting of songs by the two together. I think it's called "Riding with the King"

Very nice! I have been exposed to some great music lately in this thread. If you have the right version of the August rush soundtrack "dueling guitars" sounds great. I find most classical/spanish guitar track also sound very nice on RC/Vs where all the details comes out and you can hear the plucking of the strings.

I just realised I never posted that I picked up a new sub. Velodyne DEQ15. Might not be upto some of the internet direct subs but got it local at a great price. Now fighting the urge to pick up another and go dual.

Yeah the whole album of BB King and Eric Clapton is great.

I have the August Rush album in my closet somewhere. Haven't even thought to listen to it since the last time I played it was on my HTIB about 2 years ago. Guess what I'm pulling out next?

Just fyi, the saxophone is not a brass instrument.....its a woodwind.

The song "This Time" on the august rush soundtrack was written by Chris Trapper (lead singer for The Push Stars years ago).....Chris is one of my favorite musicians and a super nice guy. All of his music is definitely worth a listen.

Hot tub and great sound is a perfect combination. I wish I could get these offers shipped here. Congrats on the sub!

Last September I purchased the RC-30's, RC-LCR and a RC-10SUB all in Cherry. I am still waiting to get the sub but have really enjoyed the Reference Connoisseur Line. In the mean time I am using a Velodyne SPL-R 12" sub that I can exchange if I like the RC10-Sub better.

The build quality of the 70s coming in may be just as good as the older stock and might actually be older stock.

If people are hesitant about buying the new 70s because there is a possibility that Audiovox had a hand in the construction of this lot of speakers, I understand. However, I wouldn’t base my decisions on speculation.

I have not seen any reports of the new stock of RC-10s or RC-LCRs being any different in sound quality or build quality, compared to the old stock. Granted, the new stock of LCRs were just recently made available and the 10s have been for sale for just a few months, so that’s not a lot of time for reports to surface. I also realize that it’s unlikely that people who have ordered the new stock of 10s or LCRs have old stock to compare them to. My point is…I would assume the sound and build quality of the new 70s to be on par with what has previously been sold since I haven’t seen any evidence that would suggest otherwise.

Another thought is that this new found stock possibly could be warranty hold back stock. Since Energy has a 5 year warranty on there Speakers, they needed to hold stock once the RC line was discontinued. Maybe they held back too much stock, and now that they are into year 2/3? since they discontinued the RC line they have a better feel how much they need. I guess the hole in that theory is that we aren't seeing new RC-30 / RC-50 or Cherry/Rosenut finish coming into stock.

That sounds like an answer that an accountant would give! Warranty amortization tables!

Good thinking, but Energy has already been swapping Veritas in for problematic RC-70's. If these new RC-70's were in reserves, I wouldn't think that they would have done that.
I think we'll just have to wait and see the serial numbers on the new ones. I'd bet they're higher than ones previously bought.

I fought the urge for 2 years. Saw the deal at Vanns and didn't even hesitate. In a few days, I will let you know if it is worth it.
