Local craigslist listing (San Diego) for a pair of Veritas 2.2i (the larger 3-way bookshelf). New in the box but several years in storage.

I offered $450. Seller said $1k.

Uhm, the 2.3i towers don't even sell for $1k.
yeah, I saw that ad too and the seller is on crack if he thinks he can get $1k for just the bookshelfs.

if they are really "i" series and really NIB I think $1k for BOTH the V2.2i's and the center is still pretty generous, but a fair price given the sound quality. I think $500-600ish is probably fair for the bookshelf speakers and $350ish for the center.
Yeah, I politely told him there's no way he'll get $1k (yes, he wanted that just for the bookshelfs).

$1k is approaching 2.4i territory (the biggest towers).

A pair of mint 2.3i towers sold for $700 here two years ago.
A pair of mint 2.3i towers sold on Audiogon earlier this year for $700 as well.
A pair of mint 2.3i towers is listed in LA for $750 and has been listed for several weeks with no buyers.

So how would the 2.2i's, without stands, sell for $1k??!!

I just mounted it on a poster frame that I got from Aaron Brothers.

Thanks Afrogt. I've picked up that poster. Maybe i'll alter it by putting an energy logo on the back wall.

Depending on how sensitive that sub is I would set the volume (gain) on the sub at the 9 o'clock position which should be 2 or 3 on the sub. Run audyssey and see what level it has set your speakers and sub to. If it sets your speakers to say -4 and your sub -/+3 to that then you are good unless you want to run your sub "hot" which a lot of people do. If you want to run your sub hot then boost the volume on the receiver +3. So if Audyssey sets your speakers at -4 and your sub at -5 boost it to -2. If the gain on your sub is too high then Audyssey will set your sub way too low. So if it sets your speakers to -4 and your sub to -14 you know the gain is set too high on the sub itself. This is all example of course, but you can get the idea.

Another important thing to note about the TX-NR609 is that a lot of owners report that Audyssey will tell you to put the mic at the main listening position first, but you should actually start at the right seated position first. So instead of doing 213 go 123.

I'm thinking of selling my RC's and Veritas to go with a full setup of these bad boys.

Reviewer says that these are rebadged Jamo s 426. Is that good or bad?

wow really??!? are you sure about that? That would be a break from the way Audyssey has worked on pretty much every receiver ever...

It means they are NOT Energy speakers. So don't expect the traditional Energy sound. They are entry level Jamo speakers. In fact while Newegg has a sale on these for $150/pr, Fry's has them for $99/pr as Jamo s426 speakers and $150 for a 5.0 set.

They're better than HTIB speakers or the Onkyo packaged speaker systems but nowhere near as good as the Jamo s606 package.

I have my RC-LCR currently running with my 5.1's. I'll agree that if you want the best fit you should get the 5.2c That said i don't think the LCR sounds terrible with the 5.1's at all. Actually i quite like the front soundstage. I am using my 6.3's now with the LCR and it still sounds very good.

I also have the 5.2c but need help getting the LCR out of my stand. I need to take the tv and top glass shelf off to get it out.

I'm assuming because you have asked if they would work with the LCR that you have one and are looking for good mains to go with it. If you have the LCR there is no reason why you shouldn't get the RC-10's or any of the RC towers. If you already have the 5.1's then there's no reason to get the RC-LCR.

If you're deciding between the RC or Veritas it basically comes down to two things. (in my opinion)

Price and Aesthetics.

If you're more price sensitive go for the RC series.

If you want the "nicer" looking speakers then get the Veritas (preferably in Rosenut)

The difference between my RC10, RCLCR vs V5.1, V5.2C is not a night and day difference. I love both arrangements but to me the difference was as described above.

This is just my opinion on the products i actually have. You can't go wrong with either.

Ouch. This is a sign that the Audiovox buyout of Energy is going to slowly erode the Energy quality we all know and love. Brace yourselves.

Nice, maybe the thought was that if Audiovox/Klipsch can capitalize on the name, than why can't he. There is a guy wanting $2800 or $2400 for 2.4's around here, but I also expressed to everyone that he was out to lunch with a glass pipe months ago. These guys have high hopes.

Buy the RC's and older models while you still can. I have been doing that for a few years now. I don't think I will ever need to buy a new speaker again, and I don't think there will be a better reasonably priced new speaker from any company that will ever tempt me. Energy was that good.

Yeah, but by all means try it the way the manual and Audyssey says. When I got mine months and months ago I was getting weird readings from Auddysey and found the official tx-nr609 thread here on AVS and quite a few people tried the 123 instead of the 213 position with better results. I havent messed with it in awhile since I have everything the way I like it now, but if I move anything in the future I will check the results again.

Anything is possible if you want to put some effort in. This is what I did from a tiny picture that I liked.

Wasn't being sarcastic...just saying i don't think they sound horrible. I'm curious why you would say it's a terrible combination. Have you tried the 5.1's with a RC-LCR? There isn't a huge difference between the RC's and the new V's as we all know.

Seems your sarcasm meter isn't the only thing broken!

Batpig was the one being sarcastic, when he said they sound horrible!

My bad. At least put a wink in there so those of us who pay attention to every little thing said on these threads can follow along.

I took it as he was being serious with the comment so i wanted to know more about why he felt that way. Since he's one who helps a lot of people out i thought maybe he knew something i didn't.

Haha yeah i noticed that. I thought maybe you had some insight i wasn't aware of. I should have caught that. For that mistake i made I'll send you one Energy EF-500. I'll keep the other but will tie a string between them as Hank said that is the best utilization of them. In fact i'll send one to him as well. Then we can all have a 3 way conversation about energy products.

I guess I'm so helpful that people don't even notice when I'm being a dick they assume my response should be taken at face value...

Newegg now has the S10.3 for $200. How low has the price been on this sub in the past?

If you need a great sub for a great price, get it now. This is a great value.
$199 is the cheapest newegg has ever had it, so if you want one buy it now!

Hank, does this mean you think the newly available RC's (the RC-70's specifically) at Vann's are the equivalent to the RC's available a year or two ago? Or are you recommending used RC's?

If you ever get the opportunity to compare the 6.3's to the RC-70's, I'd like to hear your opinion. I will likely get one or the other -- just having a difficult time deciding between the two. I like my RC-50's a lot (i.e., the warm/neutral sound), so I know I would like the RC-70's. But after reading Calgary's comparison, the soundstage or the 6.3's seems impressive.

I have previously noticed that the newer RC-70's weighed in less than other RC-70's, but that doesn't mean that there is reason for people to hesitate. In seperate rooms, I don't notice anything different except for the weight and the grilles fit differently.
I will compare the 6.3's to the 1.8's and RC-70's, it just may take some time, it will happen though.

I haven't posted here in awhile but I'm back with Energy! I couldn't resist the Vann's sale right now. I sold my old speakers today and purchased a pair of RC-10's and an RC-LCR (I run a 3.1 setup). So I will have the energy speakers up front with a yamaha 667 and an Emotiva Ultra Sub 12 (I love this sub!). I can't wait until they arrive!

Welcome back! There are some great prices out there right now on Energy speakers. What speakers did you get rid of to move to those RCs? Since you are "back", what Energy speakers did you previously own?
