Alot of people say that using a external amp is a waste givin how sensitive the veritas are. I was debating going external but was told not to because my 4311ci had plenty of power

I'm sure there are many opinions for reasons why and why not.
From my experiences, I say get a good external and be done with it, if you can afford it. It is about the sound and not necessarily about the watts.

I see that Vanns is doing a pre-order for RC-70's in English Cherry. Has anyone heard through the grapevine that Energy is stll making these or are these some sort of new model that's coming out?
Not sure if this has been posted but today only Vann's has the RC 70 for $399 and the RC-LCR for $250. You have to go to the Vann's promo page to use the code "LEAP."

I've been on the fence about the rc 70 before but I think my room might be too small at only about 13x14 with 7ft ceiling. Any thoughts on this? Does anyone use these in a small room?

I called and they are only getting two towers in cherry. So this must be old inventory. So if you want them, preorder now. They'll be available in April.

He did say Energy is currently producing new RC-70's in black for them.

I have a set of Jamo towers in my main room and the size is about 15 x 15 with normal height ceiling. They're 40" tall with dual 8" woofers so about the same height as the RC-70.

The RC-70 isn't too big for your room. Besides you may not be in that room forever. You cant have too much speaker.

I used to have Athena towers in my old bedroom and it was smaller than your current room.

Get the RC-70's, good price!

$100 discount on the rc70 thats great, finally they are doing discount on the rc70s
post #37538 of 47662
you mean discounting more!

They were $599 when they came back in stock in the Fall, then lowered to $499 and today only $399. Great pricing.
I think that if you order by phone the ones for 399 in the clearance outlet center, they can discount those even more. but the only problem the pair left have dings.

sorry the speakers on the clearance center are gone.I hope they notice the discount for today so they can get a better deal. there where 4 rc-70 yesterday in the clearance center.

I'm interested in what some of you think about this question: Assuming you could effectively use either option and also assuming price didn't matter, would you rather have an all Mini bookshelf front soundstage for L/C/R or L/R Mini bookshelf and Mini Center?

Conventional wisdom would suggest an identical front L/C/R is the better option if it can be done, but is that conventional wisdom based on the assumption that people are using larger bookshelf and/or floor standing speakers? Or does having an identical front soundstage apply to any speaker, regardless of size? Or does the benefit of having a center channel with an additional driver outweigh the deficiencies of the inferior MTM configuration in a speaker this size?

Is that some super secret afrogt pricing? When I click the links, I see the regular price. I know Vann's is having a leap day sale, but I didn't see any discount on these speakers.

Is an all mini-center L/C/R an option?

Same here, I do not see where you enter in the promo code or where the discount was taken off when you go to their promo page.

I agree, conventional wisdom suggests an identical 3 speakers in front is superior in most cases. But, like in the case of the minis that I am selling, I originally set it up with 3 indentical minis for left, center and right. I just didn't like it for a couple of reasons.... I did feel that the all important center channel with dialog/sound was lacking. I do think it's very small size does hurt in this regard, somewhat. But, the other thing was that honestly in my entertainment center, it just looked goofy with that center channel being upright. The mini center being horizontal just looked so much better.... more symetrical so to speak. But, maybe that had more to do with my mounting/placement situation.. who knows.

Nonsense The RC-70s are even better in small rooms. Well I can't really compare but they're incredible in a living room about the same size as yours. In fact they're perfect -- they're not *that* large for 3-way towers.

This is the correct answer. Maybe because I had already entered LEAP earlier, each time I go back I still have the discounts included.

I have a pair of RC Minis and a Mini center. The Mini center with dual drivers and a larger cabinet plays deeper than the RC Mini bookshelf.

I also tried a RC Mini bookshelf as a center with my RC-10s. Not very good, too thin. Then I got a RC Mini center which worked very well. Finally I upgraded to a RC LCR which is excellent.

My suggestion would be for you to go with a pair of RC Mini's and the Mini center. And if you can go with RC-10s, get those instead of the RC Minis. They'll be good with the Mini Center.

Sorry, I missed your post earlier. I like how you think, but want to stick with two options I originally listed. This is partially due to the previously mentioned conventional wisdom that's out there vs the seemingly common sense that a Mini center would do a better job with speakers/drivers this small.

no problem.....i figured you wanted to stick to those two because you would have listed my option if it was an option.

As the others have said, theoretically the front 3 are supposed to match, but I would think a single mini would be a little weak in the center.

Go for the mini center in the center and adjust the settings (or use your receiver's room correction) to make it blend as best as possible.

PS - just out of curiosity, do you still have your RC-50s for sale?

Thanks to both you and deano86 for your thoughts. I'm actually currently using a pair of V-Mini bookshelfs in a 2.1 setup. They work fine in the small room they are currently in, but I'll be moving into a larger space if/when my house sells. Right now, I plan on using my RC-10s or CB-10s in the future, larger space. If MY plans aren't approved by my wife, I'd like to have another option, namely using the V-Minis. While they might not be ideal for a larger space as far as sound output, the WAF would be fine if they (and the TV) were wall mounted, wires ran through wall, etc. The V-Mini prices (center and bookshelf) are the lowest I've ever seen them right now and think I should buy one or the other now and put it storage for later just in case use. I've been planning ahead with my audio gear this past year and making sure my audio needs are covered once money becomes tight after the move.

Thanks. No, I sold the RC-50s a few weeks ago.

Hey fellow energy lovers!

I need help determining a fair asking price for a used (2 year old great quality) black rc mini center channel speaker. Considering they are discontinued, I cannot find much on pricing.

I originally purchased them for $200 but am upgrading to the RCLCR (woo-hoo) so obviously the mini cc can go.

Thoughts on fair pricing for this?

Yeah...I was the guy that grabbed the RC-70 yesterday for 399 that showed no mention of damage, hoping I would see another come up without damage. Today I checked in and saw the others gone so I panicked! Called Josh and he told me about the 399.88 sale and said my other had already shipped so gave me 70 off that one. 730 for 2!

He told me that Energy was building these as well as the other RC speakers new and exclusive to Vanns. They've got lots of these! He doesn't anticipate any Cherrys though. Jump on these today!

I sold one of those recently for 80 dollars on ebay. I would say 90-100 would be a fair price. Mine was 2 yrs old and had no scratches. I had the original boxes as well.
