I wouldn't guarantee "silence" results from reconditioning
gear, as I'm sure this can vary. If your friend isn't worried about it by himself, I wouldn't get him concerned about it.

Thanks for the feedback. I am not going to worry about it as you can't hear it at all from the listening position. This weekend, when I have some time, I want to compare the two amps and see which one sounds better.

I think that 20 break in hours is more than enough for me. The important part was to allow them get a bunch of good content going through them, before they were used as rear surrounds.

No problem man. Definitely let us know what you find out about the amps. I love hearing about (and conducting) shoot outs between different pieces of gear.

I agree with breaking them in properly before you leave them in the rear surround positions.

Thank you for your responses. Is there a specific genre of music that you can recommend using to break them in? Is it ok to use my Iphone to play music through them? The reason why I am asking about the Iphone is because the quality isn't as good compared to CD's. Thanks again.

quality or type is irrelevant. They just need to be USED so the parts move and stretch and physically "settle". The rubber around the woofer doesn't give a sh!t if the source is a CD or an MP3

most people tend to use classical or something else that is relatively full range (i.e. plenty of bass) but IMHO people way overthink this aspect. Just USE the speakers and they will break in. It's not like if you break them in with hip hop MP3's intead of hi-rez classical music passages they will sound any different.

My Energy speakers are very finicky. They prefer lossless formats

Mine only respond to Old Skool 70's Funk.

Just as I found your post, Curtis Mayfield's Superfly is playing on my RC-10s from my playlist.

you can get RC in-ceilings for only $79 each w/ free shipping from Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_732RC6C...6C.html?tp=193

they would be low profile, fit in the ceiling, and a near perfect tonal match.

Would the in clg spkrs sound as good as the minis? Also, if the V5.1 bookshelfs were used instead of the rc 10,s would the rc in clgs be a good match for these? Thanks.

Hey, does anyone know how these would compare with the Mirage Omnican OC-55? I'm planning on setting up a 7.1 HT in my basement sometime in the next several months. I have the following speakers currently planned for there:
2 RC-70 (currently in use in my den)
1 RC-LCR
2 VS Surrounds
2 Mirage OC-55 (new in box, plus I have an extra I need to sell or find another use for)
Sub (HSU planned)

The room will be roughly 12x22x7. I plan to use the VS surrounds for the sides, and the Omnicans for the rears, but now I'm wondering if the Energy RC-6C would be better and just sell the Omnicans. I think I paid $100 apiece for them on sale from Newegg, and could probably get that much for them now.

But it doesn't look like the RC-6C comes with a speaker box or anything, it's hard to tell. The Mirage comes in a can (removable) but it fits in my ceiling and I have their big brother the OC-65 upstairs in the den for rear surround, and they're pretty decent. Also, I saw a thread indicating the RC-6C needs a mounting kit, to be located and purchased separately.

So, any significant benefit of the Energy versus the Mirage in this application?

Thanks,

Dan

Anyone want to buy my CF70s x 3 as well as my CC10s x 2? I am looking for a reason to upgrade to RC70s x 3 for front stage and RCLCRs x 2 for my surrounds.

Sounds amazing as is, but I just have the itch.

I want pictures afterwards. The only good reason is because you want to. I am continually tempted to upgrade my RC-50's to RC-70's and come up with all sort of reasons:

I'm listening to music at least 50% of the time... what on earth am I doing not taking advantage of better midrange... the 70's are twenty digits more than the 50's... I need the extra height from the 70's to line things up correctly visually... I want those 50's as surrounds, push the RC-10's to width speakers...

Then I listen to my SACDs and DVD-A's, FLACS and Blurays on my setup and think that I'm freaking nuts. But I do see those RC-70s in my future, since the entropy of my upgradeitis always seems to win. I can't even think what I'll be like when I move from my apartment to someplace with less neighbor consideration.

Awesome dude. I am a big fan of zero cables with wall mounted TVs. The left & right are toed in toward the LP (hard to see from these pics):

they're better than the mini's, they have a full-sized 6" woofer and use the same RC tweeter so should be a great match fro the RC-10's. I would also still take them even if you went Veritas up front.

the key thing here is you said you have to ceiling mount. The mini's will just be a little awkward in that application, whereas the RC-6C's are specifically designed for that. Plus they're cheaper to boot!

Ya, the RC-6Cs are a great way to go! The only other real option for a mandatory ceiling mounting situation is to pick up a pair of RC-10s and the Omnimount 20.0C ceiling mounts from Vanns.... I use that combo for my DSX heights and it works great with tremendous flexibility for positioning and angles...

Oh, and whatever you do. Do not, DO... NOT!! Do NOT look into something called a SubMersive, by Mark Seaton.

Just... say... no.

Thanks, I'll remember that. It looks like I will be pulling the trigger on the VTF-3 MK4 in the next few days. Thanks to all for your input.

Oh man, those are sweet! I'd have to dump my Jamo's to get those, all 4 towers and the center.

Ad says it comes with 5 year warranty but Energy warranties are not transferrable. Still a very good deal.

Makes them $199 each. Sale good through 4/26, too. Now, if Vanns will put the RC-70s back on sale for $399, life would be good.

I got an email from them yesterday saying to call and save. You might be able to call and get that price. I'm itching to call and see if they'll lower the vs's.
