Hi,

What did you have for surrounds before getting the VS?

I have a pair of old Energy c-r100 for rears and want to upgrade to the VS as well.

Please post a quick review when you have a moment.

Thanks.

Right now I am using TAKE LCR's. Try this [LINK] for setup pics. You can also google "Take LCR" for more photos.

Great installation! Everything looks so neat and tidy, unlike mine

I did the same as I live in Canada but used kinek instead. I paid 399$ for both of them, 35$ of fuel and 60$ of taxes at the border. I left my place (Ottawa) at 9h30. At 10h45 I was out of the store in the US with the speakers. As you said it's still cheaper then a single one here at FS. I am very happy with them. I use them with a pair of RC-70s and a RC-LCR with a Denon AVR-591

As an update. Back in february I made a post because I got a good deal on a set of RC-70's from a friend who works at Future shop. While looking online for a nice sub to go with them I found Vanns was having a pretty good sale on some gear. So I decided to drive down to Montana since I was skiing near the border, and pick up some gear.

Heres a quick summary of my experience for those of you that have been thinking about it, as well as my thoughts on the equipment.

1 pair RC-70 (~$700) - Future shop

1 Rc-LCR (~260?) - Vanns

1 pair Energy v5.1 (149.99ea) Vanns

1 Energy ESV10 (349.99) Vanns

I'm using an older pioneer vsx-1017 to push them. I'm actually not even using the v5.1's right now so I have no rear speakers. I have the RC-70's bi-amped using the rear surround outputs (its an option in the amp settings) and they sound fantastic! I experienced some clipping for the first time tonight while pushing them to some higher volumes (I did a really long break in by leaving them running while i was out of the house a couple hours at a time at low volumes). I did recently jostle everything around a bit, so I have a sneaking suspicion that I knocked the optical cable loose at the back since I've run them at these volumes before without trouble.

I'll update again later since I secured the optical cable a bit better, maybe the bass was just knocking it loose

I do wonder though, is my amp under powered?

Overall, I'm very happy with everything. The sub took quite a while to break in but now it is absolutely incredible. I had the front speakers set to small and my crossover at 80hz the other day so that the sub was the only thing creating bass and my friend still thought it was amazing.

After some messing around with different listening modes and playing with my yamaha rx-397 stereo amp, I think I've found the settings I like best. The stereo amp sounded a touch better but I cant bi-amp and still have a sub out so I'm stuck with pioneer for now.

I'm also looking for some input. The aforementioned setup is in my basement with my main TV, My house also came pre-wired in the living room upstairs with in ceiling rears and a 5.1 setup. I have some polk RTi4 (pretty average) and I was wondering if I'm wasting the energy v5.1 using them as rears. Should I use the Energy v5.1 as fronts upstairs and the polks as rears downstairs? Or just keep the energy equipment together and sacrifice upstairs where I wont be listening as loud?

Thanks for your input.

The v5.1's will be a better tonal match to the RC70s. I would leave them as rears. The vsx-1017 should be enough to push those speakers with the sub crossed over at 80hz. It is handling the real heavy lifting. You should not be hearing any clipping any of the speakers.

How much was the Kinek fee? I was going to order a pair of VS surrounds from Amazon.com so my friend could bring them to me but they wouldn't be delivered to her before she left Chicago to visit her brother in Toronto.

Did you order them through Vanns or Amazon? I notice that the seller is actually Vann as per the Amazon product page.

As Vann's does not accept canadian credit cards, if you do not have an american credit card, then the best way is to go through Amazon.com. Either you use Amazon's website (Vann's is part of Amazon Marketplace so Amazon is then only an intermediary -- this is what I did) or you go through Vann's website but you select Amazon Payments, which achieve exactly the same thing. Either way you won't be able to give your credit card number to a Vann's representative by phone though, so no special deals through persuasion skills.

Hi Guys
I recently purchased a pair of brand new unopened Veritas 2.4i speakers. The guy had never opened them since he purchased them, as he got a good deal on some Focals at the same time he purchased these.
So I got these speakers from him to setup a 2.0/3.0 system and decided to go with a used Adcom 5802 to power them.
I am still waiting on my Denon 4311CI to arrive so that I can hook them up to my amp.
Since its gonna take a little more time to receive all my electronics, in the meantime I hooked them up to a spare receiver yesterday to test if everything is good with the speakers. I tried them out in moderate volume levels on a 140 watt/ch Pioneer receiver. Everything seemed to be fine until I noticed a lower volume level from my right speaker. So i took off the grill and started feeling all the drivers gently with my fingers and I noticed that the mid range driver right below the CSM module was not moving as well as the other drivers. There was almost no movement except for a light vibration from that driver. I put my ear next to each of the drivers and I noticed that there was very little vibration to no sound coming from the mid range driver compraed to the others. The Bass drivers had some faint level of voice coming thru them but there is absolutely no voice coming from the mid range driver, but there is the slight vibration (sound) coming through it. I compared this speaker with my left speaker and I could clearly notice that the driver was moving very minimally compared to the left speaker.
What could be the issue with the driver? Could it be a blown woofer? I definitely did not blow it , because I played at low volume levels? Could it be an issue with the cross over?
I am very sad right now that my dream system started out this way
Could you guys please give any suggestions as to what I could do to fix the problem?
I appreciate your help.

Do you guys have any recommendations for an angled speaker stand suitable to hold the RC-LCR below the tv? I've seen all sorts of center speaker stands but they don't look like they could hold the RC-LCR. I'd like one that's angled so it's pointing up at the listening position.

I used to be able to fit my RC-LCR in front of my TV but with a TV upgrade there's now no room for the speaker...it needs a stand real soon. This is what it looks like in the meantime:

If you guys can throw out some models I'll check them out I don't mind ordering from the USA if needed though Vanns is obviously out of the question for me.

Dude, you scored those! Congratulations!!!I saw them on eBay but didn't want to fork out that cash especially when I already have the 1.8's. I would have loved to be able to a/b those with the 1.8's.

Maybe one of the wires connected to the driver are loose? You should be able to remove the driver from the cabinet pretty easily to check. Another thing to try is to swap that driver with the one on the other speaker. If the problem follows you know you have a bad driver.

Try searching this thread for veritas 'i' driver removal and/or replacement or maybe someone will chime in that has done it before or has a link.

Congratulations again and good luck! Let us know what you find.

Thanks Jason. Yeah I thought it was a great deal specially since they are brand new, so I had to buy them.
I am little scared to remove the driver, but I guess I might have to do it.
I will check for the loose connection if any.
I have a 2.0C center (not "i"). Do you think I could use the driver from the center to swap? I don't want to mess with the 2.4i that is working fine.
the woofers on those Veritas are VERY easy to remove. They thread through via a long bolt that screws into the back of the cabinet. If you look on the back, there should be plastic caps covering the bolts. Remove the cap, loosen the nut and then the woofer should just pop out the front pretty easily.

I don't know if the center woofer is compatible, but all 3 of the woofers in the V2.4i are the same 6.5" "dual hyperdrive" model I'm pretty sure, so if I were you I would test by just swapping the woofer with a different one (either in the same speaker or the other speakers). Once the woofer is out you can also peer into the cabinet and look for loose wires

These woofers do come up on ebay now and then, there is a guy who has been selling some but I don't see any listed right now. You should be able to snag one if you need for $100 or less. I actually have an extra woofer but it's from a non "i" model.

Here is a couple of photos of the V2.1 I used to have with the woofer out so you can see.

Thanks batpig. Your pictures help very much. I will try to do this over the weekend. I would have my Denon by then too.
Before I try swapping the woofer, are there any other troubleshooting methods I could try? Also does this issue seem to you more like a blown woofer/loose wire or could it be anything anything else too?
hard to say but you can confirm whether it's a bad woofer a bad crossover by swapping with the other speaker. If the problem "follows" the woofer you know the woofer is shot, if the problem "sticks" to the same speaker even with a woofer swap then it's a wiring issue.
did you switch the speakers around on the amp to at least see if the problem followed the speaker first?

Just buy or build a riser stand and put your center in there. It'll raise your TV 10" or so but will look much better than what you have now.

Thanks for the information. I'm still trying to decide on what to do. I saw some open box VS speakers for $190 each which isn't much of a discount.

BNIB VS surrounds are $200 each at the moment. I wonder if there is any chance on getting a better price if I call in.
I got 190 each by calling in. I tried to get 150 because of a past sale (about 2 weeks prior) but they wouldnt come close to it. I was away at the time and couldnt get in touch with my buyer friend.

Have you thought about wall mounting the tv? I know you'd have to customize your acoustic paneling behind the tv, but a flat wall mount can be had for like 30 bucks.
+ 1 million

flat panels should be wall mounted

BTW - that's a lovely setup. I love the way you incorporated the acoustic panels into a decorative WAF-friendly layout.

I guess I'll just order it from Amazon since I won't be saving very much by calling in.

Thanks.

I ordered through Amazon as Vanns doesnt accept canadian credit cards. Kinek was 5$ for each so 10$. If you look a few pages ahead I followed suggestions others posted on this board.

Wow, that is not much of a fee at all. How long did it take for the speakers to make it to Kinek?

I'll have to go back a re-read parts of this thread.

Cheers

That riser is only rated to 100lbs, my tv is 150lbs with the stand.

I originally bought a really nice wall mount for $400 that extends out of the wall but it's a concrete wall and I had absolutely no idea how to put the thing together nor would any HT installers do it due to the drilling involved, I just ended up putting it on the stand and returning the wall mount. That's why I need a stand

There's gotta be something out that there will support the RC-LCR. I like the look of this Sanus one but I just don't see how the LCR would not fall off.

why would it fall off? The speaker will only hang 3" off each side. RC LCR weighs 25lbs so its not going anywhere.

you could always use blu tack adhesive to hold the speaker in place.

Sounds like a loose connection. I had that issue with a tweeter on one of my speakers in the past. If you can use a screwdriver and have any amount of patience, you can troubleshoot and fix the problem yourself. If you need any more advice, you know where to come! Best of luck to you
post #39180 of 47663
Just finished installing my 2 new V-S Surrounds!! Replaced 2 of my Take LCR for side surrounds. One thing I just have to mention though: For a "higher end" speaker company, they sure make crappy manuals. There was zero explanation about how to wall mount nor the rubber bumpers. There is NO mention of what the dial is for on the speaker, nor what it should be set to! I remember I had the same issues when mounting my Take FPS. Ugh! I think the first demo will be the "sand storm" scene from the latest Mission Impossible. I remember that scene being awesome in 7.1, so I am hoping it is even more awesome!! Pictures to follow at a later date.
