Yeah I'm still confused from the pics. Is the speaker damaged as well, or is it just the base. I believe people here have replaced the base before, from the same dilemma.
Yes thats right those base are replaceable.

part number
Z8CM//ERC57 BASE H/G BLK.ENERGY RC50/70 $45

Good to know, that would make me happy, how tdoes it attach though? glue , screws finishing nails etc?

Flip your RC-70 tower upside down and remove the 4 screws that hold the base in place. That's it. I just looked in my RC-10 owners manual which also covers the RC towers.

FWIW, Energy actually sent me a used base for my 70 when it arrived damaged.
Frankly, it wasn't in much better shape than the one I was replacing.

I didn't bother calling Energy again as it was really Vann's issue by not double-boxing.

Hoping someone who has a close working relationship with a Vann's representative can send a link to the last two pages of this thread. The complaints regarding Vann's policy of inadequately packaging (tower) speakers for shipment may be saving them money initially but is costing them a huge deficit in public relations. Based upon some the horror stories I've read and the photos I have viewed to back those stories, I seriously doubt making a tower speaker purchase with them in the future (no matter how good of a price they may be offering)! If they would double-box heavy shipments in general it would illustrate a high level of "caring" to their customer base; it would also give their personnel at the Clearance Center a little less to do... My $.02.

Energy V6.2 floorstanding speaker $299

not sure what these were selling for before, but i believe they were priced similar to the RC70s which were $400+ so this is a good deal, yes?

When they first came out they were more like $700-$900 ea.

Considering you can't get RC-70's right now and the V6.2 has a higher quality finish they are a bargain for $299 ea. I think the rosenut looks sweet but gloss black will go with anything.

Apparently Vann's will be file for Bankruptcy.

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Vanns/Bankruptcy/Industry_Trends/Vanns_Will_File_for_Bankruptcy/9945

Bummer for you U.S. guys because usually this means they will likely close for good.......eventually.
Kinda crazy that they're selling 5.2s for $300. That's a sweet deal. I almost wish I were in the market tongue.gif

Since the packaging has the Energy name on it it's actually their fault. That's the package they sent it to Vann's in, and all Vann's did was to add a new label and send it along to you. BTW, if you check the UPS site you'll see that the Energy packaging does not meet their specs. The cab should be totally encased in two inches of foam. Using foam at the corners only with fragile items is only OK if it's double boxed.

I have a whole set of the original Veritas speakers. They have been boxed for years as I have not had room for them.

When I was using them in my last home I did have to replace one of the woofers under warranty due to the glue failing and the woofer freezing.

I am getting ready to break them out again and worried about future woofer failures. I've read that some people were "reinforcing" these old poorly engineered woofers, but cannot find any details on the process.

If you are aware of the process or have a link to any details, please post a reply. Thanks.

Too bad about Vann's bankruptcy filing.

I'm in Canada and I think I'll be ordering some Energy VS surrounds very soon based on this statement: "The company didn't speak explicitly about the Vann's website, but it can be implied from statements that it's not a major source of income."

Sounds to me that their online store will probably close.

The VS go for $599.99 each in Canada: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/energy-energy-veritas-surround-speaker-vsb-vsb/10155132.aspx?path=72084964bb28c6460de49152b600a58aen02

I've never even heard of the ON Store and BigSkyCountry.com

http://www.theonstore.com/
Sells Apple Products like the Apple Store

http://www.bigskycountry.com/
They sell outdoor, camping, hiking gear, etc. kinda like REI

According to the statement below Vanns.com will be growing larger, not closing.

CEO Jerry McConnell says that the Vann's website will be a bigger focus for the company going forward. "My son shops online," he says. "I don't think he's ever been in a store. So, we need a different mindset for our Vanns.com business."

I'd expect some retails stores to close if anything.

just to be clear, the "original" Veritas speakers were the V1.8 and V2.8 from the early 90's. It sounds (since you mention woofer freezing) that you have the original 2nd-gen Veritas (non "i" series), not the ORIGINAL Veritas.

I've never heard of any reinforcing process, it would require really disassembling the woofer since the issue is the basket detaching from the voice coil / magnet structure. I think it's probably easier just to grab a "spare" or two as backup and enjoy the speakers.

(speaking of which I do have a spare woofer from the non "i" Veritas models sitting in a closet, plus there are several on eBay)

I re-read the article and I am not sure about the future of their online store. One sentence says they're focusing on their website, the line I quoted indicates the company isn't getting a lot of income from the website.

Either way, bankruptcy could lead to the end of the line for the Energy RC and Veritas line for good frown.gif

I would like to believe him as well; however, a lot of the decisions will be left to the trustee, creditors, and bankruptcy court.

You're correct - thanks for clarifying. I guess I will hit ebay for some spares just in case.

I guess I am unlucky in that the guy at Energy wouldn't trade out all of my woofers several years ago- just the frozen ones. Hopefully they will hold up for me.

Wow. I sure hope that Vann's survive. I don't live in Montana, so of course it's the online business that I know, and like a lot of their customers, I don't like to think about buying my electronics elsewhere. They really know how to take care of a customer, unlike some of the bigger and better known e-tailers I've dealt with.
the whole state of Montana has just under 1 million people. My county has more people than that. I would have thought the Vanns website was their key source of commerce.

I just bought the 6.2's with the 5.2 center channel. What type of receiver and sub should I look to pair them with? I have a 21 x 20 room and looking to keep the cost at less than $1000.
$600-700 of that budget shoud go towards the subwoofer although I found a sale on the Epik Legend 12" sub for $500, regularly $650.

If you ask in the subwoofer forum you'll get plenty of recommendations for quality subs.

I bought a pair of C5's about 4 years ago from a local dealer for a good price. I am wanting to build a 5.1 system and I am having a hard time finding matching rear channels. How would the RC-10's match up for the rears? Would it be safe to run them and then eventually step the C5's up to RC-70's if the come available? Should I even be thinking about using the C5's in a surround system?
the C-5's are great speakers, they are basically equivalent to the RC-30's within the next generation lineup. The RC's replaced those "odd number" C's and are only slightly better sonically, although build quality was improved quite a bit. So, yes, using those C-5's as the foundation of a new multich system will be just fine.

the surround channels generally don't need to "match" as much as the front three speakers, so any Energy surround speaker will work fine in that context. The RC's are a bit "smoother" and more "laid back" than your C-5's but otherwise will have very similar tonality. It might help if you describe your intended use and room layout, for example you may prefer wall-mounted bipole/dipole type surrounds if you will be doing primarily HT and want something lower profile for the surrounds. If you don't mind towers as surround and/or you like a lot of multich music, you could get newer towers (RC-70 or Veritas) and move the C-5 to surround.

i don't know if your speakers are the black or maple finish but I did a quick check of eBay and I found the matching C-1 bookshelfs which would be a perfect match as surrounds: http://www.ebay.com/itm/A-pair-if-Energy-C-Series-light-pine-wood-color-shelf-speakers-Great-condition-/330772223043?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item4d038f9443#ht_3083wt_858

Hi,

I'm getting ready to upgrade my surrounds from Energy c-r100. Will I see a big improvement going from these to a pair of used RC-R or a new pair of VS? I have an RC-30 from L and R, an RC-mini centre.

According to this article, Vanns will file Chapter 11 on Monday: http://www.cepro.com/article/vanns_to_file_chapter_11_bankruptcy/

Anyone know how this would affect an order I place through Amazon.com today for the VS?

Thanks for the information. Although I don't really care if I have towers for the rear, I am building the system right now and still need a receiver and rear channels. I don't think the budget allows for buying a new set of towers for front channels at the moment. Are we going to be able to find RC70's online now that Vann's is out of stock? Are the new Veritas speakers along the same line as the RC-70's? What kind of receiver matches well with Energy's?

it wont affect your order. They're not closing down.

Thanks for the information. Hopefully, my VS surrounds will sound noticeably better than my Energy c-r100 surrounds.

The VS surrounds will be a huge upgrade over your C-r100s....
