Think I will go grab one right now, thanks.
Sad indeed. Although, on the bright side we were lucky enough to grab the last remaining RC-70's for one heck of a steal.

When I was at Fry's Wednesday evening the sales guy said they got those RC-70's because of Vanns bankruptcy/re-org. So these speakers were originally targeted for Vanns but ended up going to Fry's to liquidate.

Vanns ran out of RC-LCR's and RC-10s before their financial problems came to light. So I've got a feeling this is the end of the road for the RC line.

unless of course some warehouse in China mysteriously discovers another large batch of RC speakers.

That's exactly what I was suspecting.

In fact I think Vann's ran out of RC-10s but the last batch of RC-LCRs were sold through Meijer's at prices equally incredible to the current ones at Fry's for the RC-70s.

Indeed. Also maybe we'll see Enrgy RC-71s speakers for really cheap... biggrin.gif

I got the same deal and took it. I just have a small dent on the back. Listening to the speakers right now and smiling - for a net cost of $550 :-). I would definitely consider taking it if the stand can be /removed/replaced or switched around like someone else suggested.

Take the best discount that you can, if they ask you, if that is acceptable amount for you? that means that they are willing to give you more.smile.gif

If you like Stevie Ray Vaughn thats a good choice on these speakers as well

Going by the damages its clear that they are all because of missing styrofoam on the backside of speaker , all dents have been on the backside. My friend got his two speakers - one box beatup very bad and open but the speaker was ok with a dent on the backside. The other one came with double styrofoam in the box and was in immaculate condition.

Now let the putty work begin smile.gif anyone have experience in fixing these edge dents? Few tips on this would help many here.

A simple google search helped me with this -

Picked up my RC-70s from UPS during lunch. I opened boxes while I was there, one had a number of punctures/tears/dents. Confidence was not high, but amazingly the speaker inside was fine, the worst damage to the box was on the grill side. 2nd box looked pretty good and speaker inside was unblemished. So now they're setup in the living room for break-in. If someone had told me I'd ever have a chance at getting these new for $598 shipped I'd have laughed long and hard!

I will say, first few minutes of listening was not very impressive, the RC-30s I unplugged easily sound better. But since I am now a firm believer in the break-in I'll reserve judgement until at least 30-40 hours.

Happy listening to all the proud new RC-70 owners!

Take the 50.00 put some sharpie marker on it and call it a day. You will never notice it after awhile if you even notice it now. Be gald that
is all the damage and speakers work like they should. Some people are getting heavier damage.

Congrats on your new speakers, what setup are you planning to run? Anyone here has experience with 4 RC70 in a 5.1 setup?

Absolutely take the $50, THEN still try to get a free one from Energy. Are these speakers going on carpet? If so make sure to put on the carpet spikes on the damaged speaker, I think the weight distribution on the stand will be a bit different than without. If the speaker stand issue is truly cosmetic, as it appears, you should be good. If the crack is worst than it appears it may play out after putting on the spikes. But I may be all liquored up with that theory.

That makes sense how Fry's would end up with them and at the price in which they were offered. My concern with them being the end of the road is not being able to have the parts to make any necessary repairs if needed.

No kidding, I would've loved to be able to snag a couple of those LCR's at those prices.

I hope you'll keep the RC-30s around to do another side-by-side comparison later. It's only by plugging the 30s back in that you'll know if the 70s changed or you just got used to the new sound.

Sound improves big time in my opinion. Tweeter sounded a little harsh and mids a little muddy at first. I did put the foam plugs in the back today for movies and it sounds even better to me (My speakers are only about 8" from the back wall right now). Good luck and I hope you hear a huge improvement!

Ok guys I need help! Im looking for a small or slim 5.1 av receiver to use with my veritas v minis for my bedroom or a least a receiver that doesn't look big bulky.Im looking for a receiver in the $200 or less than $300 price range.

Im looking for the best receiver that I can get in that price range.

it doesn't matter if its 3 years old, if it can play the new audio formats is okay with me

audio quality is a must.

How about the Marantz NR1403 Slim Line receiver? Retail is $399, but I would think if you call a few places you could get it for less than that.

How about this one? Marantz nr-1402 for $269. It's a demo but I'd imagine it's in fine shape.

Since we are talking about receivers again. I asked this earlier but didnt get much response.
Can anybody recommend a good sub $500 receiver for the RC-70s, other than Denon.
Thanks in advance.smile.gif

I picked up a sony str-dn1030 that is doing well.1015 watts. 7.2. $399 on sale and has bluetooth, airplay etc...my kids like those bells and whistles. Sound is terrific, but I am fairly new...2 days with my RC70's.

I found that the Denon with the RC-70 its the best match in the mid price range,I did try with other receivers like onkyo and pioneer and it didn't sound as good as the Denon ,the Denon give a very nice warm sound to then.

For a change. And also Denon cant be the only one that can go well with the RC-70s.
I did consider the Onkyo 709, but I heard heating problems with them. But yeah, it does have a lot of features for the price.

Which Pioneer model did you try Losservatore? And what did you notice in the sound that wasn't to your liking? Was it forward or recessed in any sense? Or anything else?
Also, has anyone tried pairing your RCs with Emotiva gear?

I also want to recommend one more time Sade's Lover's Live DVD. Awesome on many levels and it would be hard to find anyone that wouldn't love it! Also slap in your copy of Fantasia. Doesn't everyone have at least one?

For real I have been super impressive with the veritas v minis,This speakers sound is big for their size.

I only have 2 on top of my veritas v6.3 towers for 4 days and I haven't missed the towers smile.gif

They perfectly blend with my power sound audio sub dual 15" ,it really feel like the bass is coming from the small speakers obviously no but they perfectly blend together.

I have been really happy with the speakers ,totally recommend this speakers, Im not sure if the coupon code still working I got the package of 5.0 for $380 is a awesome price for this package.

It was bright and no warm like the Denon,The onkyo sound was flat .eek.gif
post #44820 of 47661
I have a Yamaha rx-v663 that I use with an rc-10 and rc-mini-center setup and it sounds really good. The brighter sound of the Yamaha works really well with the more laid back sound of the rc-10's to give a warm yet dynamic sound.
