Any one have any experience with Marantz? how this brand sound?
Aren't Marantz rebranded Denons?
They are not rebranded Denons. D&M Holdings owns both Denon and Marantz. Marantz generally caters for higher end.
And they are a good brand with a sound signature similar to the Denons.
I'm very close to pull the trigger on that Marantz the price is good but I'm not sure if I will be happy with the sound.
Wow I check on the internet about Denon and Marantz and there is a lot of debate between this two brands and yes they are made on the same factory. that's new to me.smile.gif

While everyone is on the topic of AVRs, can anyone explain what Audyssey XT32 can do to a setup. I'm using a Yamaha RXV671 and my RC's sound great, don't get me wrong, but I would like to hear anybody's experience with XT32. My room is not typical and far from dedicated and would like to hear how that could change things.
Marantz receivers will generally have extra features to their Denon counterparts such as preamp outputs, 7.1 multichannel analog inputs, higher number of legacy analog inputs an outputs such composite and component video. Speaker A, B and Zone 2 terminals, etc.

well i came from an onkyo 709 which had xt to a 818 w/ xt32, and i noticed a remarkable difference. i think xt32 is one of the best room corrections out there. i hear arc and trinnov are great as well.

Actually that's very funny. I didn't want to turn this into a 'what sounds good' thread. But you had to mention John Mayer which I was never really a fan. However, that has changed. When he did 'Ain't no sunshine', well it's just pure bliss. There is no way you can watch that and not replay it immediately.

Im not a fan of his voice but Im a fan of his musicians, To be a new generation blues guitar player he is really good in that category .

at least he is keeping the blues alive by integrating the blues to the young people.

I've seen him a coupla times. Front of stage outdoors once. When he's just noodling around is when you can really tell that his chops run deep. He is one of the few artists that ENCOURAGE bootlegs! Check out archive.org. I've also seen Beck live and own the Ronnie Scott's DVD and of course his first prolly 6 LP's on vinyl and the rest on CD. Of course he's hot but he truely is a guitarist's guitarist. Unsurpassed at keeping the rest of us on our toes. I found a bunch of hi quality uploads on youtube last night of Sade. Actually most of her stuff by one user. Can't believe what's out there! I think it's this stuff with a lot of "air" that make these speakers shine. Try Bonnie Raite, Andreas Vollenweider, and Little Village. Actually, I new my RC-70's had broken in when I had been listening to an FM rock station and a Steve Miller song I'd heard a hundred times shocked me with a new clarity and I thought "Whoa, I think they're ready to break out the good stuff"!

I got my second veritas v5.2 tonight. I was only sent one tracking number but everything worked out fine with no shipping damage. On a related note, I had to switch shelves in my TV stand to accomodate the height of this speaker, leaving only a small gap between the receiver and the shelf above it. Will this lack of air space damage the receiver. I have a denon avr-1911. Thanks.

How small a gap? A couple of inches and I would think you'd might be fine. 1/4", and then you probably have a problem.

Ummm...I remember pulling over in my '57 MGA to listen to the guitar solo in "Good times, bad times" when it first came out (actually Beck's first album with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood came out about 6 months before that), and wondering if my band could play it. Now you know why I fear for any further damage to my ears.

Can't remember what I had for breakfast though.

Got home without my RC70. Instead got UPS sticky note on my front door. I did not know signature required. Good thing I will be home all day. I can't way to check out the condition with one extra trip from UPS. I won't set up till my wife let me use another room to build an 2 channels only music room with my old Harman Kardon Avr 235 and PA2200 Amp or Carver TFM-35X. I am satisfied with my current main 7.1 HT set up which include Polk lsi15, lsi7, lsiC, lsiF/X, PSW605, Onlyo 809, Adcom GFA 555II, and Emotiva XPA-5.

Looks like a new sub will be next.

Looks like I have to get another tv stand or a slim marantz. Just for comparison, will I give up anything soundwise by switching to a marantz 1403 if I only need 5 channels?

You read my mind. Just let go a Klipsch RW-12d after 3 months. My friend has a DSWPRO 660 but I'm not a big fan either. But the DSW MicroPRO 1000 and 3000 still cost too much.
Any recommendation?
Thanks!

Glad they both arrived. As mentioned earlier, hopefully you have a few inches at least for the AVR to breathe. How do the new speakers sound?

Wow, 1500 pages of Energy enthusiasm. 1000 pages credited to Batpig alone biggrin.gif

I need to level my RC-70s as they are both leaning slightly. I assume I need to keep the nut part of the carpet spike flush against the base and loosen the spike itself?

Correct however, it could just be that one or more of the spikes on the leaning speaker haven't penetrated the carpet. Just push down on the speaker and you should hear the spikes poke into the carpet.

@ losservatore

I don't know if you live near a best buy, but they have a lot of receivers on clearance. Use this and enter your zip code. The only bad thing is you have to search each store individually.

I am not sure if this has been asked, but what is the purpose of the spikes that come with the RC-70s?

Lucky! I've always thought that I was born 30 years later than I was supposed to be.

Carpet spikes for the bottom of the speakers to make them more stable.

My receiver is in a permanently open-faced cubby in a wall unit (looks like a cubby meant for a vcr or something), and there is only a 1.5-2 inch gap above, not to mention it being enclosed. I purchased 2 computer cooling fans and have them come on any time the receiver is on to pull the hot air out of the cubby.

Great, no regrets. I put the VS surrounds up for sale but didn't get any bites so I bought three V5.2Cs and am setting up a projector theatre in the basement. When you have extra speakers, the only solution is to buy even more - makes sense right?
