Maybe just a bit to explain my point?...but not that far off....I have one of the older Plamsa Panasonics that had the 4 speakers surround built in with the subwoofer ports in the back....sound isnt too shabby on this tv

ow do you set crossovers for each speaker?????....Is that possible in my Denon 2803??

I have the Mirage version of the 12.3, the Omni S12. Not bad, but it seems ID is the way to go for subs. I figure to hear a "night and day" improvement, I'll go with something like the PSA XV-15 or similar. For now, I'm pretty satisfied with the Omni, and might even grab a second if one popped up on craigslist at a bargain price...

Raise your center/L/R Xos a little bit higher. Try 60 to 80hz. The Dayton1200 will probably be better at reproducing those frequencies w/ its 12 woofer compared to the 70s and LCR.

Thanks all who helped with my questions. I have lurked a while dreaming of an ht setup but never did it until now. My patience paid off with the vminis at $350, a used mirage s8 on CL for $100, and an open box pioneer vsx 50 on clearance from Best buy at $150 with 4 year protection plan. I feel like I scored big time and have a decent beginning setup. Never thought I'd rock energy speakers. Best part is that I can use the vminis for 4 surrounds and upgrade my front stage once we get into a bigger place. Thank you again!

Not to get you down, but you don't buy small speakers for "fullness". The sub's gotta do all of that, because small speakers with 4.5" woofers can't really produce mid-bass with any authority.

With the higher required crossover (120Hz) and thus the sub doing more of the work, you might want to experiment with some other subwoofer locations. Achieving a proper "blend" is even more critical with smaller satellite speakers.

So, last night I unexpectedly won an online auction for a single RC-70; like new and about 1/4 the price of a new one at Futureshop. I put in the bid on a whim, considering how low the bidding was, but never expected to win - lucky me.

So, I guess I've officially joined the Energy ranks Now all I need is to find another single to go with it. Guess I will bide my time for another auction to come up, or if Futureshop has a decent sale on these in the coming weeks or months, I might grab one there.

I have no idea how "broken in" this speaker is going to be; my guess is that it was either a demo or some sort of open box return item, but there is no telling. Assuming it is somewhat broken in already, if I did buy a new one to make the pair, how difficult would it be to get the two to eventually "match"??

I dont think it'll be a problem at all once you get the second RC-70. Just put some hours of break in while you're away.

Is the auction won speaker being shipped to you? What kind of condition are they advertising?

It is being shipped to me - all the way from British Columbia, and I am in New Brunswick. I was surprised because usually when they have these larger tower speakers (of any brand), they are pick-up only; but this one was listed with a shipping cost, which is why I dropped the bid, just to see what would happen.

They don't really give it a "grade" per se, just indicate everything (grille, spikes, etc.) is included and that it is functional. If there are any scratches/damage, they disclose that - on this item there was nothing disclosed, so I am making my own assumption that it is in Very Good to Like New condition. Same site I just recently got my pair of Veritas V-minis from and they appear to have possibly never been out of the boxes.

Can't beat the prices - got this RC-70 for $132 Cdn (all taxes and shipping); got the pair of V-minis for about $105 Cdn all in.

I actually don't really know what I am going to do with this RC-70 - I know I can (given time) get another 70 to go with it, but it will be a cold day before I can procur an RC-LCR to match, so it is unlikely that I will be replacing the LCR in my HT setup with this/these. I know my wife won't be happy I bought it; even less happy still that I don't have an immediate use for it.

^^^ What auction site are you finding this at? I checked completed ebay listings and you didn't buy it on there it seems. I'm in BC and would love to find a single RC70 for cheap to potentially use as a center speaker. And as far as shipping an RC70 across the country, that's got to cost at least $50 so you got yourself quite the bargain especially if you can put it to use with a second speaker someday.

My concern for him is that the speaker doesn't get damaged during shipping. Hopefully they double box the thing because that factory box is not made for shipping individually. It needs to be packaged much better. Several people had some sort of damage when the towers shipped from Vanns or Frys.

I almost won a pair of CF-70s on ebay for $340 but was outbid at the last second. Was going to do local pickup and not pay the shipping cost but alas. Auctions are good and bad as now I want to find another set for a similar price. Oh well. My new mini setup is a huge upgrade for my small living room and towers really aren't needed.

I wonder what percentage of bids get placed within the last 60 seconds of the average ebay auction.

If it's a desirable item the percentage of 'winning' bids placed in the last 60 seconds is perhaps 95%, and 99% of those are automatics. If you're one of those guys sitting there trying to be the last bidder you can't beat a computer. I say 'winning', because no one wins anything on ebay. When you win something you get it for nothing. When you 'win' on ebay you're the one who was willing to pay the highest price for it. Only the sellers really win.

Actually, I feel like eBay is the only one who "wins". Last year I sold a $500 item on eBay and after the listing fees, selling fees, PayPal fees, S&H/Insurance, I ended up with like $380.

I look at it as a "win" if I bid and win an auction for an item that is much cheaper than I can find elsewhere. I've purchased speakers on ebay that were $39 there and $150 elsewhere. I consider than a win.

A win is also a victory. I competed with others for a product and my offer won.

If I play golf with my buddies and have the lowest score I won. But it still cost me for green fees.

What about winning a basketball game? You won the game but didn't get it for free. Also, the term 'win' in the case of eBay is earning (or winning) the right to buy the product by outbidding another person.

does V5.2C has this 2 holes behind the speakers? or only 1 hole? im confuse. i just get my V5.2C yesterday and it has only 1 hole on the buttom left corner not like this. hmmm.

Reference page 1378 of this thread or search for "2 ports" or "v5.2c ports". Looks like 2 models were produced. Still some question as to the old version vs. newer version....They were calibrated to sound essentially the same. I would guess the newer one has 1 since we both got the 1 ported centers or possibly older ones, if they were hiding somewhere in a warehouse... I found a photo with 2 ports from 2011. Not sure when these went into production.

All three I have gotten from Vanns are single ported. What I have been concerned about is the different colored finishes.
Some are a dark red in color some are more orangish in color. Same with the towers in that line.

are we allowed to post pics of our energy set up on this thread?

+1 The very first V5.2Cs had 2 ports.... then Energy/Klipsch made a running production change to the single port design that the vast majority of them have.....

i just want to share my humble mini 5.1 HT set up with my fellow energy families. the combination of RC 70's, V5.2C and V mini with denon 1612, and dayton 1200. but still looking for best place for my sub though.

Far from humble Again, remember that your setup retailed for around $4,000
