Actually the RC-8C speakers were down to $60 a piece at one point.

If you own or can borrow a camera tripod, those can work fine.

Yes, another rare find on ebay these days.

Once in a blue moon.

A pair of RC-6Cs were there last week for 179 or so.

Yeah get a camera tripod. That way you can use it for a camera when you need one, giving it more use for the money.

Just re run my aud. I have a sub. Results are for xover rc 70 fronts full band. Center v5.2c full band, surrounds mordaunt short carnival 2 60hz. If i changed it to small fronts and center it gives me 40hz fronts 40hz center surrounds 60hz. Do i still bump each of them to 80hz or leave it what aud results? Thanks.

Are you going to ask the same question each time you re run Audyssey? tongue.gif

I bought one of these off ebay for about $12. Mine shipped from NY. Most of these are from HK or China but I have the same model and it works very well.

Thanks for checking....guess that narrowed down the choice then!

Do I need an aimable tweeter? If I am using them for the surrounds in my 5.1 setup, dont I want them to be "ambient" and therefore not pointed at my ears to begin with?

There's only so much we can tell you about your settings. Everyone's taste in sound is different and everyone's setup and mix of speakers is different. Eventually it comes down to what you think sounds better.

Run Audyssey, listen to it. Make some tweaks.......listen to it again using the same material and determine what you like better. Rinse and repeat........

You need to use your ears......we can't hear your setup through the internet.

I just tried swapping an rc-70 with my center speaker and still have the same problem. Also after looking for hours online it seems the RC-70's need more power and a receiver capable of handling 4ohms. Would anyone mind saying what receiver they have and if it can drive an Energy 3.0 system properly when set to large since I'm currently deciding what to get. Finally would an Onkyo tx-nr809 be overkill for these speakers?

I've been driving mine with a Harman Kardon HK-3480 since I bought them. The other day, I swapped them over to an NAD 4125. Yesterday, I moved them over to the Harman Kardon AVR 1700. All three have driven the RC-70's without issue.

SonySTR-DN1030 - $399 powers them well, but I would think any $300 range of any top brand would do the trick. I would see if batpig has a recommendation on a denon - that might be your best bet. Or might want to buy something that is returnable or borrow a better receiver from a friend to make sure that the speakers aren't damaged. Somebody else mentioned breaking them in but I am not sure you answered. They really do take about 40 hours or more to really open up - at low-mid volume on a consistent basis - run them all night. I was amazed at the difference.

I would set them to large if you don't have a sub and check the the db settings on the receiver to make sure they aren't set too low.

Not sure where this would come from, but the RC-70's are 8 ohm speakers. They are also high sensitivity at 92 (anechoic) and 95 (two speakers in a room).

Your receiver is rated at 80 wpc for five speakers, 110 wpc for two. It should be able to drive these just fine.

If you want alternatives, there are plenty good receivers out there. I use the Pioneer Elite VSX-33 with a 7.2 system keyed by a front three of RC50's, RC-LCR. It drives them well and is about three years old.

The Onkyo 509 is not THAT bad of a receiver. There is no reason it can't drive the RC-70s just fine. Note caloyzki above is driving a complete 5ch setup with RC-70 mains to near reference levels with an entry level Denon 1612 that you can get for $250ish. I seriously, seriously doubt that amplifier power is the issue.
Porthos01 - can you do a factory reset on your receiver? Maybe something got messed up in the configuration. Worth a shot.

That's not necessary. I used my RC-70's with my Denon 591 for a week and that played louder than I could stand. The 591 has the some power as the Denon 1612 and 1613.

If you want a more powerful receiver because of the extra feature set then by all means spend more money. But unless you've got a huge room or try to play at reference levels the entry level Denons should do the trick.

I wasn't even able to register for an account with FS: you have to live in Canada. I'm not near the border anyway, about equidistant as Indiana is to me.
