Due to space constraint I would like speakers with 4.5“ woofer. RC mini is impossible to find.
So I’m thinking CB-5 $150 or a pair of V-mini Center $150. Which one is better? Or any better idea?
I have RC70 front, RCLCR center, RC10 surround.
Thank you in advance.
Compared to the CB-5's the v-mini-c's sound a lot more clear to me. At the same price I would definately go with those. Downside is that if you need to mount them, the v-mini-c's don't have any mounting mounting spots on the speaker. Gonna have to buy some different mounts for them.

I just switched from CB-5s to v mini c's. The CB-5's sound a little deeper, but like mlupia stated, the v mini c is clearer. Just makes sure you have a good sub to go with it.

Honestly, given that you have RC-70's as mains, I would try my best to get RC-10's as wides.

Thank you, batpig.
I'll see if I can find RC-mini or RC10 with reasonable price. But I think It'll be hard to find. By the way, I've found Denon sevice center nearby. Once I take care of my denon's overheating issue, I'll actively look for wide speakers.

Thank you, mlupia92 and dsskid.
CB5 is definitely out of my list, then.

Ok so my wireless subwoofer for my Energy Power Bar is not producing base anymore. Can't figure out why. It does turn on, and syncs with the sound bar, but no base. I did try a couple different power cords but no difference. I don't see any burn marks. Is there something I should look for on the circuit boards or actual sub that would show a sign of damage?

I tried taking a few pics but I can't get them to upload on here. Is there a mb limit?

At 4' you'd be better off building a shelf. A stand would be very unstable with that much weight that high off the floor.
Second that, at 48inches you will be better off with a shelf.I have my RC10 and VS surrounds on 30 inch Sanus speaker stands and they have been pretty good so far, if interested I can post some pics.

Hey, guys I want to upgrade my sub now. Any ideas? I'm looking at a Mirage Omni 8 sub in my area for $100. That's around the price range i'm trying to stay in.

A few options:

-Mirage Omni 8 $100

-Martin Logan Dynamo 300 $125

-Energy ESW-C10 $171.00

-Definitive Technology Pro Sub 800- $200

I would love to get a Velodyne sub, but I can't find a good deal on them anywhere. If you all have any different suggestions on a sub, i'm all ears. At least 150 watts RMS. Thanks.

The suggestion is usually to post this question in the subwoofer forum. With that said, I've asked a couple of sub questions in this thread because:

  1. I'm interested in what other Energy users are doing for subs.
  2. I respect the opinions of folks in this thread.
  3. I don't want to build-my-own super-uber-mega dual 18" subs that shift the tectonic plates in the Northeast when I watch "Lord of the Rings".

So here are my thoughts. $100 is going to limit your options severely, unless you hit classifieds/Craigslist and find something used in nice shape. It can be done; I myself recently purchased an immaculate Klipsch RW-10 for $100 on Craigslist that is more than acceptable in that price range as a starter sub.

If you're able to spend a little more, there are offerings from Klipsch (RW-12D @$279.99 delivered from Newegg), or BIC America's F-12 at <$200 (frequently), or the Dayton that caloyzki suggested, or even a Polk PSW series (<$200) that would be good options.

As for future wishes, why Velodyne over SVS, or Hsu, or Outlaw Audio?

So speaking of my sub upgrade, I have to share how this went down.

Many months ago, knowing that I was looking to upgrade my sub, I listed my Sony SAW-M40 sub on Amazon (used/excellent condition) for $149.99. It sat for many months as one of two available for sale. I just figured I'd see if I got any bites. A few weeks ago, I dropped that price to $99.99/shipping. At around the same time, I noticed the Klipsch RW-10 sub on Craiglist for $200. A few weeks went by, no one had bought the RW-10, and I noticed that the price had been dropped to $100. The next day, the Sony sold on Amazon for $99.99.

I cleaned up the Sony and packed it up like eggs, shipped it to the buyer, and he emailed me that he received it and was delighted at the packing, and the shape it was in. He will be daisy-chaining it with two other SAW-M40's.

After shipping, the RW-10 upgrade wound up costing me $2.39 plus a bit of time.

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a pair of RC-70 tower and I read a lot about the fact of having the matching center. I'm on a tiny bugget so i'm looking at my options. I bought more than 10 years ago a 5.1 set of energy encore speaker. My question is : Can I use my Encore 1 center speaker with the RC-70 or it will definatly not sound good ? I would replace my 2 front Encore 2 speaker I got with the RC-70 and keep the rest of my setup.

Thanks!

welcome to the forum!

I don't believe that would be a good match but someone else could provide more info.

the rc70-s are so good a center might not even be required if you are on a tight budget. the v5.2c is a viable alternative to the hard to find rc-lcr.

While we're on the topic of speaker stands, I'm planning on getting some Sanus NF 30 for some VS surround to use as side surrounds. Anybody had experience with this combo?

I have my VS on them and it has worked well for me, let me know if you need some pics. But I would avoid the stands if I had pets or kids running around.

Hi, long time lurker here. I just wanted to see if there's anyone with an energy e:xls-12 that might be thinking of getting rid of it either because it's laying around or looking to upgrade. I'm wanting to run a dual sub set up with the one I currently have. I can't find one anywhere! Please PM me if you can help me out. Thanks in advance!
Where are you located? I see the older S12 come up on the used market pretty frequently but the problem is (as you know) it's big and heavy... So if you need to find one locally it narrows your options.

While its a solid sub it's not a world beater and a lot of modern subs will beat it. Have you considered just selling it and buying two new subs?

+1. I bought the NF26 stands for my g/f for her bookshelf speakers by her TV. They're very nice looking and fairly sturdy, but not as sturdy as some I've seen (for example, the Sanus SF - steel foundations - series, which seems a little more sturdy).

The 30 inch NF stands will be a little less sturdy - but they should be fine, as long as you don't have a kid or pet that could bump them. If you do have that possibility, I'd be a little concerned they could get tipped over too easily.

Sure - I was hoping you were in Northern VA - so we could meet 1/2 way and avoid shipping but I will do it. I will PM you with the details etc...

Hi, all. I'm been using the CC-5 positioned vertically in a cubby in my tv stand as a center for my 4 RC-10. Honestly, it sounds good to me and it matches well with the RC-10s to my ears. However I'm wondering if the V-Mini C would sound noticeably better. This is in a small room in my basement, I realise these small centers might get overwhelmed in a large room. An RC-Mini C would be ideal, but I never see those come up for sale. I do regret not getting an RC-LCR when they were cheap, even if I had to store it for awhile, but I'll track down a used one eventually. Anyway, what do you guys think? Is the V-Mini C a big improvement over the CC-5 for center use with RC-10s? I know I missed out on the $75 deal, but they are still reasonable. Also, if anyone knows where an RC-Mini c is available, let me know. Thanks, guys.
The V Mini and RC Mini use the same size cabinet and drivers. Its a smaller cabinet than the CC-5. If your ultimate goal is the RC LCR I would just wait until you find one for the price you want.
