Wow I've tried to stay away from these forums so I wouldn't get the itch to upgrade again, but I'm back! It looks like a bunch of the old timers are still here. Just dropping by to say what's up biggrin.gif

Not much! Still have the RC's, but finding opportunities to use them to be less and less. Two kids will do that to you heh. Listening to my desktop setup more these days. How many of the old time Energy owners have moved on from the RC's?

Just bought a pair of esm-1 speakers. does anyone know anything about them?

What's the general consensus on the non-i version veritas speakers? Are they even worth considering or are the woofers too problematic to risk? There is a local seller with a pair of 2.4s, 2.2s and a 2.0C. All are in cherry finish, but his asking price is just shy of $3k. I know this price is high, but this is the first veritas speakers I've seen locally in a long time, it's a complete set, and I don't have the worry about shipping and taxes if I were to be bringing them across the border into Canada.

I think 3k is too much. I just bought my v2.0C from my local cl for $50.
2.0C is the exception, not the rule. That speaker should have gone for $200 minimum and more like $350-$450.

The seller didn't know the value but you got a great deal!

Well, as you can see, we've now waited long enough for the older Veritas speakers to come down in price and some of us have been moving to those. I just don't think that there is any way you can beat them for the price that they are going for now. I have enough RC's for an 11.1 system but I only listen to the Veritas V2 series that I've recently gotten because they just give me what I found lacking in the RC's. Although, if you're happy with those GORGEOUS Rosewood RC's, then just keep the kids away from them and, well, maybe you should just stay away from this forum!

I'd say just shy of $2k (in US Dollars) would be closer to what they've been going for. Although a matched set, in cherry, in great shape, and with no risk of shipping damage...yeah, I can see why you would be tempted. Would you use them a bunch for multi-channel music? V2.2's would be a bit of overkill as surrounds for movies. In that case, you might be able to sell them and get some dipoles. Do they come with the original stands? That would also make them worth a bit more.

Keep in mind, also, that these speakers need a lot of room to breath. You need to pull them away from the walls and corners and give them plenty of power before they really shine. As far as the woofers go, who knows? I don't think anybody knows if failure is a sure thing or just random. They are available at about $100 to $140 each but the supply won't last forever. And you would have 10 of them in that setup! I've had no problems with my V2.3's but I went ahead and bought a spare just in case. Cheap insurance and I'm thinking that demand will go even higher for replacement woofers as these get older.

Don't know if I helped or just complicated your decision but you WILL love the way they sound if you go for it!

Did you get it setup as a rear center channel? If you did - how does it blend with your v5.2c surrounds?

I've never actually heard the V2 speakers, but the hype generated in this thread has piqued my interest. If I were to bring them home, I would likely give them a few months to make sure they are problem-free and then look to sell my RC set if the V2s are indeed that much better. I am perfectly happy with my RCs but curious to checkout the V2s as well. It's funny because I said the exact same thing about my e:XL speakers before I bought the RCs.

How far away from the walls do the V2s need to be? I have a good size room that they would be used in, but anything more than a foot away from the wall might be an issue.

Yeah, the V2's are, indeed, "that much better". It's like taking a blanket off the speakers. More clarity, more detail, more resolution, more air, whatever terms you hear applied to "great" speakers. And the V1.8's are even better. Then there are the V2.8's. Which is another reason I asked about multi-channel music. For SACD and DVD-Audio and other high-def sources you would be taking a big step towards hearing all that detail you paid for. Pulling them from the wall offered better sound according to the reviews because of the rear ports, and hi-dolla speakers just seem to sound better that way. It would be a shame to plug the ports since they sound fantastic in full-range direct mode, but even if you end up sending the lows to your subs, it's the tweeters and mids that really "shine" on these series.

Just thought I would let you all know that Frys is accepting orders for RC-70's to be shipped. It does say backorder though. I have no experience with Frys and don't know the likelihood of them coming in stock.

Here is what Frys says:

This product is currently not in-stock in our fulfillment center. We are accepting orders for this product, but we do not have an estimated arrival date. Our buying team is working diligently to obtain this product from our supplier. A credit card authorization will be processed when your order is placed. However, your credit card will not be charged until the product is shipped.

Quite possibly too good to be true, but worth an email if you're in the Detroit area...
I inquired to see if the seller would be willing to ship these and they said no because they do not have the original boxes and are in pristine condition. They are a retailer as well...

Just a quick question as an owner of the RC line -- did Energy ever use Kevlar as a cone material in their speakers prior to this line? If not, I wonder what persuaded them to use Kevlar.
