I went

4 X RC mini , RC mini CC
to
2X RC 10, 2X RC mini, RC mini CC
to
2X RC 10, 2X RC mini, RC LCR
to
2X RC 50, 2X RC 10, 2X RC mini, RC LCR

The bolded configuration was very good in a small room. Switching in the RC LCR was much better.

Like Macstatic mentions, the RC LCR is the best match, but the RC mini CC will give you a good but lesser alternative.

I've regretted buying or not buying something in the past, but to be literally kicking yourself about it is a bit extreme, especially non-stop.

Actually it was $199 about a year ago. One vendor had it for $199 and then had a $20 off coupon so you could it it for $179.

After all he's LITERALLY been kicking himself non stop for about a year, he must be feeling pretty crappy as it is wink.gif

I got mine from woot.com for $250 2 years ago. We all know how scarce these speakers are so if you find one in your price range you should jump on it. I don't feel bad that someone got one for $179 10 months after I got mine. Good for them.

If you find the speaker in your price range buy it. Don't wait for a better deal because it may never happen. Paying a little too much for one is better than not having the speaker at all.

Hopefully cityinruin will find the LCR one day.

The Energy Vertias 5.2C still seems to be available for under $300. People really like that speaker with the RC-70's. Maybe you should consider it as an alternative to the RC LCR?

I thought you sold all your speakers due to a family emergency or something? Are these the same speakers or did you buy more?
Yes. Those where sold. I buy and sell speakers.

Maybe you should contact cityinruin, he's looking for a RC LCR. Been looking for over a year.

ok guys, I know it usually seems like everyday someone is posting a "if I had x amount to spend what should I get" type of thread. so I would like to here from owners who have the rc line such as myself. if you had 2k for a pair of L/R would there be better options than the rc line, and yes this is how i'm thinking. i'm ready to move on, but if 2k up front doesn't get me anything better than my current set-up then what's the point. Right? so I've been looking at the following so far, anything else I should be staring at?
also I hear so many say why get floorstanders if you have a great sub/s to go along with it.(in which I have) what do you think of this reasoning? should I just get a good set of monitors. I cross at 80hz anyway. so confusing? thx guys...

I've been looking at the SVS Ultra Towers or the KEF Q900's to move up from RC-10's. The Ascend's are from what I hear a step up in quality but I'd be tempted to get the RAAL option with them and that's over the 2k mark.

Okay, I think this is a general speaker question and I fee like a complete idiot, but after connecting the veritas cc and bookshelves, they're really quiet and aren't producing any bass (I think they're not producing any what-so-ever). As a comparison, the take classic satellites are still hooked up as surround sounds and both louder and fuller. Running the onkyo quick speaker setup, it put the bookshelves and the center channel at 150 hz (and the satellites closer to 100).

I suspect it might have something to do with the two set of input ports on the bookshelves and the center (and since I was using new wire, since I think the satellites were the next smaller size below 16 gauge) and a slightly different type of plug, which gave me problems earlier), I took out the extra vc-mini and plugged the cables from the v5.2c into the mini's back and he sounded okay.

Here's a pic of the back of the bookshelves in case someone can immediately spot something stupid/obviously wrong I'm doing - I haven't had to hook up full fledged speakers (or of bookshelf full fledgedness, so those take classic satellites have been my only experience), hence why I'm suspecting it's me doing something stupid.

Did you screw off the binding posts? Why?

It sounds like you are not getting a full signal to the woofers (low terminals). That metal bar (called the jumper or shorting strap) connects the two sets of posts electrically so one set if wires feeds both pairs of inputs. My suspicion is that you are not getting a secure electrical connection because you screwed off the binding posts.
What receiver are you using to drive them? I had a very similar experience which was caused by the receiver. I would try what batpig mentioned first though.

EDIT: Just took a closer look at photo. Yeah definitely screw in binding posts first.

Because I'm a ****ing idiot!*

But thanks. That was the problem (I guess unsurprisingly).

*: longer answer, because I'm coming from the satellite speakers where you had to unscrew the caps off of the back to insert the banana plugs. Somehow it didn't cross my mind, I could just plug in the banana plug directly through the back with the binding still on (my next thought was actually to try putting the plug through the eye, like I would guess one would do with raw speaker wire, and tighten the binding post of that into place, but it just didn't seem right).

But thanks again! To say I'm a noob when it comes to audio equipment is an understatement.

The funniest part to me is the nerve of asking someone to pay more than 50% MORE than original retail price, and then having the balls to ask for additional shipping charges. You're going to try and scam someone and then you don't even have the decency to offer free shipping?. Or, basically: youtube.com/watch?v=P2vkiLHiTcY

Since Energy speakers aren't doing crap anymore we may as well enjoy the upcoming defensive posturing and proclamations about master negotiation skills and salesmanship.

Hey, I'M a negotiator!

Sorry. Bad Steve Martin reference (from "The Jerk").

Actually, I think you guys may have just master baited the master negotiator.

Again...sorry.

I'll stop now. I don't think I'll ever get the laughs, or winces, that he has. Especially after hearing him brag about selling a wench from his Jeep!

I'm sure he's an alright guy, but he'll be very lucky to get HALF what he's asking on those speakers.

BTW: Anybody here want to give me $430 plus actual shipping for a pair of new, in un-opened boxes, V-S surrounds? I paid $427.30 but I'm hoping to make a little money on them. Please don't hate!

Actually...seriously...anybody?

If you primarily do home theatre with the rc-70, I wouldn't bother, particularly if you are splitting the front soundstage to heights/wides.

If you are looking to get an improvement in stereo music playback (with or without sub) you can definitely do better.

If you are willing to go used, the energy veritas 1.8 and 2.8 will give you stellar performance (or 2.3, 2.4). I have the 1.8's. Personally, I would like to try out the psb synchrony ones, to see how they compare, but they are about 6k a pair. I'm pretty sure the older energy speakers woud hold their own. The image T6 seems like a great "low" cost option. I would want to see distortion measurements for the T6's, to see if they hold up better than the 70's at higher SPL's (95db).

Not sure about the other speakers you mentioned, but in your situation I would stay away from bookshelfs/monitors, just because in general they won't hold up as well in the upper bass and lower mid range.

Energy Veritas 1.8 FTW! tongue.gif

Philharmonic Audio Center (795) with a Fountek ribbon tweeter, RAAL option available (manufactured at Salk).
Philharmonic Audio Monitors (Philharmonitors, I kid you not) - 850 / pair. 42 Hz - 30k(+/-2db), 87db, 8 ohms. Fountek ribbon.

or floorstanders but those will run you from 2700 and up.

This is one of the former designers at Salk who is now doing his own.

Like was mentioned, if you're doing HT, you're fine with what you have, but for music...

Update: I just got off the phone with Energy (Klipsch). I was honest with them, told them I blew a tweeter and they shipped out a replacement tweeter at no cost. Just needed the serial number and a receipt. Easy cheesy! Can't wait to get my RC-LCR Fronts back in the home theater. The RC10's have been good, great even, but that extra midrange from the RCLCR's is something I've been spoiled with. A week from now, my HT will be back to normal.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

As I'll have to perform work in the attic, and freezing temperatures are coming, I have to either do that in the coming weeks with a newborn in the house, or wait until at least next spring. I'll try to see if it's feasible to do this before October, but I doubt it. It will be a huge hassle as the attic has a vapor barrier and is insulated with fluffy insulation material. Running the wires will also be a PITA. So I set my expectations low biggrin.gif

However I have full support of my GF for that project as this will allow us to set the volume lower in the living room while we listen to music in the kitchen and dining area. However the family to-do list is growing and I have not yet put the in-ceiling speakers on it. rolleyes.gif

Lol. I bought mine last year because I knew they were drying up. I am not using it, and won't be able to for a long time. Maybe couple of years. But when I eventually migrate my 70s to the HT, it will be resurrected!

$600 for the 4, including stands....Canaan, Ct area. http://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/ele/4058392780.html

Those are V2.1's, but yes that's a really solid deal especially considering they all come with the Veritas stands.
