This one is $589 vs $500 for the SVS PB-1000.

http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/subs/lv12r.html

I'd be interested in opinions about which is better as I'm considering a similar upgrade soon myself.

Neutro, that PC12-plus looks beautiful but I just cant swing the $1199 price tag. Ouch . WAF factor+1  but I would be in the dog house for sure.

Jgminder..thanks for suggesting the XV15. I'm reading through a lot of reviews and I could possibly go for that. I was on PSA website a little while ago looking at the standard finish ''look'' and I dunno.

I'm  just going to have to say something like ''yeah honey, that's the industrial look. It's supposed to look like that.'' Not sure if that will fly though. Ahaha

I'm now leaning heavily towards the XV15. What a step up from that Encore8.

Ygrene, what are the room's dimensions? Sorry if you've already supplied them--I couldn't find them.

Edit: well, it sounds like an open layout, so probably limited room gain--so tidy little sealed subs are out of the question.

Anyway yeah, right now a high value performer like the XV15 is the easiest recommendation :-) Well, a pair of them, anyway.

That's actually a Rhytmik sub. They're quite reputed although I don't know much about the LV12R in particular.

I was just kidding as I know it was beyond your budget. However the PC12-NSD at $699 has almost the same form factor (it's only 4 in shorter and that's it). The XV15 would have a bit more output and extension for just a little more, but if you like the cylinder form factor and black velvet finish, the PC12-NSD is awesome and you get the awesome SVS treatment (45-day return policy, 1-year upgrade policy, 5-year warranty, etc. etc.).

Indeed, not really in the same league.

I didn't pay $700 for them, they were sold for $700 for the pair after I returned them. FS said they just wanted them gone from their location. Someone got a bargain, if they only bought those towers from that line.

So I noticed today that the midrange of one of my RC70s does not sound the same as the one on my other RC70 speaker. It is a good 5-6db quieter and it sounds a bit muffled compared to the other one. This is of course tested with Audyssey off and with the speaker level identical on both speakers. Swapping the speaker wires between the two speakers had no effect. I went as far as to swap the midrange woofers from one tower to the other and the issue did not follow, so I know that the woofer itself is not defective.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Could it be a faulty crossover? The tweeter and 6.5" woofers on the tower sound perfectly fine as far as I can tell.
Well if you did the necessary tests to found the problem then there is a 100% chance that something is wrong with the crossover.

Hi,

Anyone has used the Energy Pro Series 4.5 ? I have seen a pair in a local flea market for $ 200 / pair. They are in fair condition .

Is it a good buy ?

The Pro series was entry level 15+ years ago. I'm sure they sound perfectly decent like any energy product but $200 at a flea market is not a good deal. $50-75 maybe.

I've seen many much much nicer speakers for $200 used. Connoisseur C-4 and C-6, newer Connoisseur C-5, Audissey A2+2 and 3+2, RC-10 bookshelfs, a pair of AC-300 or RVS....
And that's just Energy brand!

Thanks for the response

Where are you located? If it's a reasonably sized metro area we can check out your local Craigslist for deals for you.

Maybe tell us more about your needs, overall budget etc.

I am from Tampa Bay area. I am looking for tower speakers for my HT and willing to send a Max of $ 250 /pair.

What other components do you have already? Are you getting everything or do you have some stuff (eg subwoofer)?

Couldn't see any local energy deals that I lines but some nice NHT deals:

Towers: http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/ele/4083584662.html

Surrounds + Sub: http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/ele/4113099865.html

(That sub alone is worth $100 although only 8" so may need another for a bigger room)

Another option for surrounds if you want blak and / or don't need the sub: http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/ele/4082500422.html

I have spoke to the owner and shceduled the auditioning for the NHT towers tomorrow. I will keep you updtaed.

Please let me know if any other good deals in my area.

What center speaker will match my black veritas 5.2 speakers?
Another black V5.2 smile.gif

But you already knew that.

If you are desperate the V-mini CC would work too, but won't be as effective if you have a larger room and/or play at louder volumes.
Vanns still has the 5.2C in rosenut available.... leave the grill on and throw a black cloth over it and call it good!

Or puchase the fine specimen that Caloyzki has for sale and do the same thing!

The V5.1 are the bookshelf speakers and the V5.2 is the center, so if you already have a pair of V5.2C's then get another one for the center speaker.
@ afro -- I think the problem is he can't find one, see his post above:

the other option he has is to get a pair of Veritas towers or V5.1 bookshelfs and then move one of the V5.2's to center channel duty, and sell the other one to defray the costs.

Hi everyone..

I just picked up a second set of used RC-70s and they are missing the gold binding post, foam plugs, and carpet spikes.

Should I try and see if they are still available from klipsch/Energy or are there generic aftermarket that I can use?

hmm.. just had a brain flash. I could just use wire.

Yes, you can easily use wire for the jumpers.

Are you using both foam plugs with your first set of RC-70's. I think you got two per speaker.

If not, you can use one in each speaker.
the foam plugs are just foam, nothing special. Really you could (literally) use a sock to plug the port if you wanted.

that said, I was able to order a pair of the foam port plugs for my RC-LCR which I bought used and didn't have them, it was only a few bucks from Energy's parts department. The RC-LCR also didn't have the gold jumpers so I just bridged them with two short pieces of speaker wire.

My first set of RC-70s from Frys Electronics had the spikes but no foam plugs and I thought I would experiment a little with the plugs.

I guess I could try the craft store..I remember them having all sorts of foam in various shapes and sizes. or use a sock.

thanks guys!

This maybe a silly question... would RC-70s as rear surrounds be a waste of there usage?

I do have RC-Rs as side surrounds already and RC-50s as wides.

Swap the 70s with the 50s.

"Waste" is relative really smile.gif

Why didn't I think of that.. yeah swap them.

Is there more material out there sent to the wides than the rears? maybe I'm just over thinking this.

This is fun though.. time to experiment.

I just ordered 8 of these:

1.375" Brass Speaker Spike Chrome with 1/4-20 threads for $2.50 USD

8 = $20.00 USD

Shipping and handling $5.50 USD

Total $25.50 USD (Paypal accepted).

Also available in Gold color for the same price.

Don't get the M6 size that seem to be popular, get these to match the Energy thread. I'll let you know how they work once they get here, but they look fine and I couldn't find anything cheaper.
