Also seems like some classified sellers are asking slightly below MSRP for older models without a warranty so it makes no sense to buy used unless its a really good deal.

I predominately use my set-up for home theatre 80% and the balance for 2-channel music. I also have a Paradigm PDR-10 sub and Jamo Concert C60 SUR for the rears. I am quite happy with the current set-up, maybe I should save my $$ or wait until Boxing Day to see if some better deals come along. I don't want to spend more than $1000 on towers and center speaker. Perhaps at this price point I am not going to see much of an improvement over what I currently have.

Another speaker I was interested in is the Sinclair Audio Brighton 460T and matching 25CC centre channel. Thoughts?

I did some research on the Klipsch Reference speakers and read many comments which indicate it is not a neutral speaker and bright.. The only place I could demo a pair was at a local Best Buy store and with all the background noise and large space I could not truly hear what the speaker sounded like.

Once again, thanks for everyones input.
Where in Canada?

Hi guys; I have been looking for a set of RC-R to make a 7.1 in my family room...I currently have a pair setup in my basement which I bought for $400 about two years ago. But now I am not able to find ANY - been searching for almost six months. And I finally found this **Link Below** today - Is this the current going price?? It seems very expensive. Should I proceed to buy or do you all think it is over priced? Thanks !!

WAAAAYYYY overpriced! Do not do it! Be patient. You can probably find a pair for $400-$500. The joker that is selling them comes on here from time to time telling us what a great salesman he is. He probably has had these listed for about a year.

I believe he was trying to get $1,250 for them awhile back.

I agree with Caper. Maybe you'd be better off with the VS.

This. If I recall correctly, he had them listed for $1200 at one point. Now that he's down to $750, maybe you should send him a PM and see if he's will to come down at all. His screen name here is the same as his ebay name.

Other speakers to look at if you can't find the RC-R's are the VS surrounds, V2.0R's, or C-R3's (sometimes also called CR-3's).

I can't personally vouch on whether the RC-R would be better than the VS with an RC setup as I only own the VS surrounds, but they go very well with the rest of my RC setup. This is definitely an option. Keep your eyes out for them as well.

I didn't mean to imply that the VS were better sounding, but rather value-wise.
I am unsure which one is better sounding, but was explaining that I have the VS with my current RC setup and am very pleased. I would actually like someone to respond who has heard or used both. I understand the Veritas might have a harsher tweeter and the RC series are more laid back, but from my understanding, that is not going to be "super" (in quotations because of the subjective nature of that comment) important for surround speakers as it would be for the front 3.

I have both the RC-Rs and VS surrounds. I haven't put a whole lot of listening time or even any critical listening for that matter, but the RC-Rs do sound like they match the rest of my RC speakers better than the VS surrounds. There is nothing wrong with using the VS surrounds and I would have been perfectly happy keeping them in use with my RC70s and RC-LCR, but the opportunity came up to get the RC-Rs so I jumped on it. I ended up paying over $500 for them but they were brand new. As I mentioned, they are a better speaker for my application, but was the difference worth $500 compared to what I already had? No...

adept777, I'm not sure how important bipole/dipole is in a rear surround speaker. I could be wrong and someone please correct me if this is the case, but I think many people use monopole speakers for rear surrounds with their bipole/dipole side surrounds. If this is true, then perhaps you should be looking for a RC-10s or even a pair of RC-LCRs. Even towers would work if you have the space for them.

Here they go

I didnt try the bipole or corner yet. I just set them to dipole because they way my set up is.

Btw what are the purpose of the volume knob on the sides? Where should i need to put the knob? And also if i set to dipole/bipole is it normal that the fron woofer working? Or it depends which settings i use? And the small woofer on the sides when i touched them i dont feel that it vibrates? Is that normAl? Thanks.

Put that in your Energy speakers and crank it up. A little blast from the past.
Havent played any music through any of my speakers in a few months, so thought
a little Highway To Hell was in order.

You think it's remotely probable that he is just incidentally, casually making an observation, oh hey check it out they don't move that much! And it's a pure coincidence that it just happens to be a speaker model which has a known woofer defect which causes them to freeze?

You sir have to turn in your cynic card, you're out of the club. tongue.gif

I missed the final bid on those 2.0r's. I really wanted to see for myself if the drivers were frozen, cause if they weren't, that was a sweet deal at $150 plus shipping. Of course I already have 2.0r's, and what I would do with another pair is a different story (hoard, gift, resell?).

My cynic card is fortunately still intact, as I was merely assuming the role of devil's advocate. Now what about you optimist card? smile.gif

The manual has a graph that shows which setting you should adjust for the volume, based on distance from the listener (if i remember correctly). And if I'm not mistaken you would be better off setting dipole with your setup ( side firing with center driver aimed at the listening position).

Hank posted the manuals up somewhere. There should be a Dropbox link somewhere in this thread......

The 2.0r setup guide is in this specific manual on pages 10-11. I guess the bi-pole/di-pole adjustment is more preference based, but Energy does give some guidelines in the chart.

Sounds good - hopefully will sound even better when I get the Emotiva XPA-5 this weekend smile.gif

Reading the info on that youtube link about Bon Scott made me think about how many big name deaths there were in the music scene in 1980 - John Lennon, Bon Scott, John Bonham. Bob Marley was around that time too I think - possibly more.

I hear you, seems to always come in waves. Or the other one that gets talked about is singers and musicians and even actors that all died at the age of 27. There is more than you would think.

The volume knob is the volume adjustment for the little additional midrange drivers located on opposite sides of the speaker. You can turn it all the way down and in essence turn the speaker into a direct firing speaker using only the front facing woofer and tweeter. But for the most part, you are going to turn it all the way up ( to within 1db of the front drivers) to use the full dipole/bipole surround effect that the speaker offers. You are not going really going to "feel" any vibration coming from those midrange drivers as they aren't meant to reproduce the low bass frequencies.

Marley was 1981, along with Bill Haley, Mike Bloomfield, and Harry Chapin. Go to ihopeidiebeforeigetold.com and pick ANY year tho...

1970 was the rough one for me. Hendrix died AND they were killing off the muscle cars. I had just started college. Truly the end of a great era.
