Wow, thanks so much for the heads up! I bought a pair of these for 399 at my future shop, so I called the Whitby FS and they told me it was still 399. The guy sounded kind of dumb, so I went in myself and they had them at 299, so i got the price adjusted

I bought 4 C-100s so they're front L/R and surround L/R. I still have two Takes to mount as rear L/R, but haven't got them mounted yet. I'm looking forward to testing 7.1, but unfortunately, the back row of seats is on the wall under the rear surrounds

That's a lot of receiver for those wee little speakers though Soon the upgrade gods will start whispering in your ears.

Fingers in ears. I can't hear you upgrade gods. I refuse to listen.

Are you still using the sub from the Take setup? I think the first priority may be a nicer sub and then let Audyssey MultEQ XT do its magic....

Fortunately, I bought an upgraded 10" sub when I purchased the Takes years ago. I was originally disappointed with it's performance in the new room, but have since repositioned it and added bass traps in the two front corners and it made a huge difference. I think it will be good until I upgrade the fronts. Wait... I didn't just say that

Of course you did.

The only thing I haven't even considered upgrading in my home theater is my DaLite High Power screen. I just love that. I think it may be a while before I consider upgrading my speakers, though. I'm really happy with the RC-70s. I appreciate them more with every movie I watch and music track I listen to.

Of course, that American salesman using the 10" Energy sub as a conga drum has me thinking about auditioning an Energy sub in my home.

Nahhh!

New speakers should arrive this week for the bedroom. Is anyone running the 50 center vs the 100. Can pick up and XL-100 center for a good price but it seems to be similar to the C-50.

Batpig, I'm going to check Thursday but how is the headphone output on the Denon's

Thanks

Read the last 25-30 pages of this thread, please. The 50 vs. 100 center has been covered numberous times, as well as the older XL-C100 (the unit that was replaced by the C-Series). If you are getting C-100's stick with a matching C-Series center if possible, the C-C50 is only $80 shipped.

This Energy forum is quickly helping you reach the milestone of 4,000 posts. I think its time you take a bow

hah.. honestly, I post 10 times as much in Denon threads, that's the real spot where I "pad my numbers"
Oh I know you do and I will be seeing you there in the near future when it comes time to set up my 988, that is if I EVER get this theater done and to the point where the equipment moves in. I was just making a crack at the fact that it seems you spend half your time referring people to "read the last 25-30 pages" .....lol. That is a post padder if I ever saw one

I dont use any meter to match. I use MACC to match the level with distance analysis.

That's not gonna work...

They communicate below 20Hz

Hey guys, I'm new here and have a few questions.

I just bought a Denon 2809 receiver and I picked up 2 Energy C-500's on boxing day for my fronts.

I still have Sony HTIB center channel and surrounds. I first want to upgrade my center channel and go from there.

I know the Energy C-500's seem to have a deep, pronouced tone to them, which I feel to be great for my fronts.

On the other hand, I want a clear, bright center channel speaker to bring a more dynamic overall sound and to hear crisp clear dialogue.

Any recommendations? ( I know klipsch are knowm for being clear, crips, and bright sounding)...

Thank you.

Do you mean MCACC, as found on Pioneer receivers? If you ran MCACC again when you switched speakers, what about the EQ that it normally performs? You would want to compare with EQ off to make sure you're hearing the real differences between the speakers themselves. Also I wouldn't necessarily trust MCACC to give you the same absolute volume level for the two sets of speakers.

You need to stick with the same brand, and series so they're timbre matched. The energy c-c100 is what is recommended for those speakers. Energy c-50 surrounds would match well with those as well.

This may be a very stupid question...but can anyone provide tips on how to compare tweeters only between two speakers...or woofers only...at any given time? I posted a while back that one of my RC-10s was dropped and the tweeter was broken. Had it repaired but still does not sound right (did not get original Energy parts). Repaired one sounds somewhat muffled compared to the other one. I would like to compare tweeters and woofers separately to see what should be replaced with original parts. Many thanks for any help.
well, your rc-10's are bi ampable.....so take off the gold straps on the back of the speaker and plug in your speaker connections to the bottom inputs....you can listen to the woofers play. themn switch to the upper connections and you can hear both tweeters play. What "part" did you put in.....if not an original Energy tweet...it will never match up...just sayin.

Yes i meant MCACC. Its actually very accurate. My friend compared it to his radio shack meter and it was right on. As for the EQ i did turn it off and ran MCACC every time i switch the speakers. I think this is closest i would get. I can assure you the CB20 does not sound as detail as my RC-30 does. I'm in process of having a pair of bookshelves for my comp so i'm not being bias. I will see if i can get a pair of RC10 for the price i want ($299).

Thanks Bobcel. That makes perfect sense.

Energy is out of the replacement tweeters for RC-10 for "3-4 weeks" so I had a local shop install a Boston Acoustics tweeter (closest they had) so that it would play for now. I will take your advice to see if the difference is only the different tweeter or if the woofer was damaged also (although original woofer seems to still be playing). I plan to get the original Energy driver(s) eventually but hopefully only need the tweeter.

OK, that sounds good. I just wanted to be sure the receiver settings weren't affecting the comparison. I'm not surprised you preferred the RC-30 to the CB-20, and I would expect the RC-10 to sound essentially the same (the 30 just seems to be a 10 with an extra woofer so it can play lower).

In Canada at Future Shop the RC-10's regular price is now not much more than the CB-20, which makes them a great deal because they used to be a lot more. (In fact right now they're $399 - 20% = $319 CAD a pair!, but the sale is almost over.)

I am looking for online sources for Energy speakers. I have not read all 212 pages of this thread, but in recent pages AudioAdvisors has been mentioned. Please advise of others. Thank you.

google is your friend...5 second search.

http://www.electronics-expo.com/inde...=MIRMACROMOUNT

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...05&dcaid=17902

Since you didn't specify what color, there's one of each.

On the specs for the mount it says this "-Easy installation No tools required " How in the world can this be?
You will need to anchor it into the wall somehow, you'll probably need a screw driver and possibly a drill. Other than that, it comes with an allen key to adjust it.
I figured this much BUT was making light of a bit of false advertising....no tools required means NO TOOLS REQUIRED.. Last I looked a drill is a tool. Just thought it was kind of funny

Well, I finally got my c100 setup (4x 100's, c-c100), and the 'new model' PA-120 setup installed, calibrated and semi broken in. Im running a Denon 1709, and for what was spent on the entire system (~$850 shipped for everything), I'm floored with the results. Very neutral and 'honest' speakers. No offending frequencies, no harsh overtones, and nothing that Audessy had to do to "correct" any issues with the overall presentation (other than the typical room volume adjustments). I run Rockets in my main room, and while they are a step up in finish work (Mac Ebony cabinets), and the Vifa tweeters are amazing...this "budget" system is equally impressive, if not more so, with it's ability to handle both music and movies with aplomb.

YMMV, but I'm extremely impressed. Way to go Energy!

Hey guys... I'm in Canada and I've been wanting an SPL meter for so long. Thing is Radio Shack don't exist anymore and I went in every electronics store I could find but to no avail. I've tried the net but the only meters I could find were analog and I want a digital one?

which one do you guys use?

Radio Shack morphed into "The SOURCE by Circuit City" (couldn't they find a better name?). They used to carry the Radio Shack SPL meters, but recently seem to have stopped and now they have this one: http://www.thesource.ca/estore/Produ...roduct=1219799

I can't necessarily recommend it though. I bought one just because it reads down to about 30dB (much lower than my Radio Shack analog meter) which could be useful when searching for sources of background noise. The readings are several dB different from the Radio Shack one, but I can't say for sure which is more accurate! Still, for things like matching speaker levels you only really need a relative reading, not an absolute one.

As far as I know, the only authorized "online" Energy vendors are Amazon and Audio Advisor. Now that Energy is owned by Klipsch, any Klipsch dealer that also carries Energy products (like wwstereo, who gets Energy closeout stock apparently) is also authorized, but I don't know of any others besides ww.
