My C-100s have been breaking in for a couple of days. Even after a few hours, their starting to sound a lot smoother. I'm going to have to play around with some acoustical treatment in that room. My home theater room used to be the same plaster walls as my bedroom with the C-100s. The plaster walls make the sound so much harsher.
My new sub still hasn't gotten here, even though it's supposed to have arrived in town 2 days ago. I can't wait to add one of the Orb 8" subs to these new C-100s.
If you have a reasonably large space I would upgrade the sub before the rears... at this point the C-500's are probably even more capable then your sub! Of course, at $70/pair the C-50's are a pretty painless upgrade for the surrounds if you so choose.
Can you also please comment on your experience upgrading the front end on the Take Classic and how much of a difference it has made? There are plenty of other folks out there in a similar situation wondering how much difference it would make and user reviews are always welcome
I wouldn't sweat the bi-amping unless you just feel like doing it for fun. I do it on my Denon receiver just because I like the looks of it and I had extra cables/bananas lying around, but I can't imagine you would hear much of a difference.
Sorry for the late reply, but...
The Take Classics fronts were incredibly good for movies and games. The C-500's definitely feel fuller, but where they shine is of course music. The satellites+sub definitely had that 'hole' people talk about, particularly compared to towers. They also output a lot of bass... if I didn't have this sub already it wouldn't have been needed. If the C-300's are the same with less bass, then they probably would fit just as well if you already use the Classic's ESW-8.
I'm primarily thinking about upgrading my rears primarily because of the size and driver difference. Would a bigger speaker with a 4.5/5.5" driver make a noticeable difference in quality for surround?
Does Bi-Amping do anything else? I'm not too familiar with it, but does it provide the towers with extra power?
ok my setup once again
yamaha rx v661
4 x c300's
1 x c-c50
the problem i'm having is that LEFT REAR BACK SURROUND SPEAKER will not get noticed by the v661. it keeps saying it's not connected. i checked in redid the wires like 10 times. and it's not the wired as i tried it in a differnet terminal. i'm getting PISSED!!! needless to say. someone pleaaaase help me!!!!
MUAHAHAHA just figured it out before you posted. damn you i didn't get a chance to edit  ok now that i got that fixed. i have one more question. how to hook up the ps3 for true surround. from what i understand you hook the hdmi cable from the ps3 to the receiver and another hdmi from the receiver to the tv. is this correct?
oh and how do you use all the speakers (minus center) for music. i can't seem to find it on the menu. meaning can you use them all at the same level?
yes, that's how you connect the cables but you have to make some changes to your PS3 settings also. HUGE thread for using your PS3 as a Blu Ray player.

Press the Stereo button on the remote a couple of times to activate 5 channel or 7 channel stereo. This includes the center channel unless you manually go in and setup your system without a center.
i think someone asked about rubber covers on the magnets of the RC10 covers, can't find the post
my new RC10s had the covers on the middle pair of magnets only (same as original poster), I assume this is the intentional design
That was my post...and thanks for clarifying for me.
I edited the post because I contacted the seller and found out they weren't refurbs, but were an early production pair obtained from an Energy rep...hence the QC stickers.
So basically I got what I thought....a used pair of RC-10's that are in really good shape and sound amazing.
I got the C-C50 in this week, and as I had measure before I bought it, it fits just fine in front of the 46” LCD TV. Another 1 inch taller and it would have started to block the bottom portion of the TV viewing area (Which is one reason I chose not to go with the C-C100’s, another being cost).
I do have a question on the C-C50….. Energy speakers are ported, and the port is on the back side of the C-C50. I know with ported speakers, you do not want to have the backs flush against a wall (or in my case, TV). As it is right now, I have 1 inch clearance from the back of the C-C50 to the front of the TV.
I can move the TV back some more, but limited to about another 2, 3… with 4 inches being the max. Does anyone have an opinion, what the suggested MINIMUM distance should be, between these two surfaces so I do not have booming out of the fronts?
Pardon my Colonial, but FRAK ME!!! These C-100s have absolutely no business sounding as good as they do. I just took a breather from speaker break-in mode to switch to stereo music. I played my speaker auditioning CD - twice.
The speakers are not broken in. The receiver is not EQed. The 11'x11' room is not just speaker unfriendly, it's downright speaker hostile right now. Yet, it's remarkable how low these little guys can go, and how high they can soar.
I pause mentally every once in a while to compare the C-100s to the RC-70s I just installed in my main home theater room. I say to myself, those highs are harsher and the range is not as great. The separation is not as clean. Then I remind myself how silly that comparison is. It's not a fair fight. The RC-70s cost me roughly 20 times more than what I paid for the C-100s. Even when the C-100s are broken in and EQed and the room is acoustically treated, the RC-70s will take their lunch money.
But, wow! How in the world can a speaker I just spent $40 for sound this good? I'm more than a little excited to find out exactly how good I can make these guys sound in the coming weeks. I haven't spent a lot of time in this room for quite a while, but I think that's about to change.
Make no mistake - Energy makes some seriously good speakers.
I'd like to thank everyone for this thread because it pushed me over the edge in buying an Energy surround package. I saw WWStereo had a decent package with the C-300 towers, a C-C50 center and C-R100's for $450. I thought it was pretty good until I noticed the showroom was in Montgomeryville, PA. (Just happens to be 15 minutes away from my work.) I stopped in and saw they had special deals not offered online. Long story short I ended up with above speaker package plus a Klipsch KSW-10 for $650. I think it was a great deal. My question now is what speakers to purchase to complete the 7.1 channel surround sound. I plan on purchasing an Onkyo 706 BTW. It's either between the C-50's or the C-100's. Does the rear surround really matter that much? To be honest it's more about the mounting hassels than the speaker cost. Any comments would be very much appreciated.
I am sorry, I am wrong, I miss read your question. I just came back from Energy's Web and yes, they are 19.75"...
Thanks. I was just hoping for the slight chance it was a typo in the specs. Back using my Hsu center speaker. Doubt my wife will approve a new cabinet for the C-C100.
Just picked up the take classic 5.1 from CC liquidation, dont have a receiver yet, need one with hdmi, doesnt have to upscale, but does have to have audio with the hdmi, for around 300-350 dollars, i know its a lot to ask, but if there is anyone out there that would know, it would be people on these boards.....thanks in advance

If you have other C-series front speakers the C-C50 will be a better match than your HSU center.
That's a great price for a C-C100. So anyone know what finish these are done in? Buy.com doesn't even have a picture. I tried looking up the UPC but no luck. I was going to just buy the C-C50 until I saw this price. I'd just like to know what color I'm getting.
Also how do you guys deal with a speaker this size? I always assumed the center needs to be right up in front of the display? But this thing is too damn big to do that. Can you place it behind the display? I wasn't planning to wall mount the display. Most tv's don't have a base high enough to stand over this speaker. I really like the idea of pairing this with the 4 C-100's I got but I'm lost as to where to put it? Part of the reason I was going to buy the C-C50 instead. Any help would be appreciated.

I had a C-C100 and measured up my new cabinet but was off by just a hair, and the C-C100 won't fit inside there (about 1/8" off). So I picked up a C-C50 and popped it in there now, which still sounds nice. BUT, when I hang my TV on the wall I'm going to toss the C-C100 on top of the cabinet instead of inside.
Might want to pick one up just to have it since it will be a great match to your other Energy speakers and you can still get them now.

Take off the first two zeros and try again. The center needs to be either below or above the display, not behind. You need to just work it out if you want to use it.
welp. i got my c300's and c-c50 hooked up and it's sounds AWESOME!!! waiting on my other hdmi cables to come in for the ps3 to receiver. thanks a lot afrogt for the help. as far as the c-c50 i'm not sure if i want want the deeper sound of the c-c100. i have a feeling the voices wouldn't be as pronounced because of the deeper sound of the c-c100. i can't really say though as i've never heard the c-c100. the c-c50 works fantastic though!
I just ordered my Energy setup.
I havent had a chance to even hook it up yet.
What should I use as an audition CD?
Anyhow, I got
2 Energy C-300s Left and Right Mains
1 Energy C-C50 - Center
2 Energy C-50s - Rear surrounds
2 Energy C-R100s for surrounds
and a VK-12 Subwoofer to round it all out
I also picked up an Onkyo 706. Oh well im super excited to finally get off work and go and hook it up. I use my computer as my primary Source on my LED backlit LCD pannel, and I have it hooked up VGA, I'm not sure if it would be better to go to the HDMI on the reciever and back to the TV or not. Im running the res at 1080p. If I don't will I still be able to setup the 706?
Either way this should beat the hell out of my old Onkyo 505 setup I had Lol.
