In another thread I saw some conversation about playing ripped DVD's through the Xbox 360 using it as a media extender. By this I mean ripping the DVD to a file or group of files and playing them through the 360 off of my media center.
There appeared to be many issues with doing this and a couple of ways to automate the process (including a program called moviepro). However, the discussion quickly moved into an xbox as a media center extender sucks/no it doesn't battle and that part of the thread was lost in the melee.
so I'd like to open it up for discussion. What does it take for me to stream my (Insert DVD Name Here) through my 360? What program(s) do I need, and how can I maintain the quality as well as surround format?
What I did see is that it looks like using moviepro and media encoder 9 and .... I can get this too work, but it didn't really outline the entire process. Also there were snippets of info on what settings would produce the best quality, but not necessarily information as to why.
Would anyone care to comment on what they are doing and why? Your results may help others achieve this goal.
Thanks

. I'm using WMV9 VBR Quality 90 and WMA Pro VBR Quality 90 5.1 48kHz 24bit. Keep the video resolution "same as source" and put the frame rate to 23.976
