But the truth of the matter is, it's hard to make make these types of decisions based upon other people's opinions. IMHO, you really need to hear the subwoofer for yourself, and make your own judgement.

The OP is interested in the EP-600, not the 500. The 600 was not auditioned in the above URL.

Agreed. In the absence of having them all in your own room (sound feasible?), better to amass any objective data you can from folks who know what they're doing (careful, everyone's got a PC and a microphone these days).

Here are several reviews of the award winning ep500/600 line. The first 3 are of the 600 and the others of the 500. Both employ the same DSP chip and driver with the cabinet being larger on the 600 and the digital amps being 600w and 500w. Both subs are similar in sound except the 600 extends 3hz deeper and outputs 3db higher. The thread above of the November 20 listening test is a good start in light of the similar sound and design of both 500 and 600. Because of their exceptionally flat frequency response and excellent sound quality they are in great demand. Until recently I had two of each. :D

A $1750 subwoofer with half-baked bracing is lame.

I suggest you buy another sub spyboy and avoid the Axioms. If you sqeeze one too tightly the sides fall apart and the driver pops out. Also I'm concerned once you experience 122db in room you'll lose control of your bowels. :D

I have 2 HSU VTF-3HO + Turbos on order $1800 delivered. TWO 12inch XBL2 drivers with greater volume enclosures. 1000 watts vs. 600 watts. Should be good for 126 db at 16Hz. They will eat the Axiom for lunch and then some.

Hsu makes a great subwoofer Spyboy. Excellent design all around. Very well engineered sub with headroom to spare, suberb sound and balanced driver. The good doctor knows how to make them.

Now, for this "126 dB" claim. The 1220 managed peak, short term 110 dB bursts @ 16 Hz/one meter. Assuming the VTF-3 HO DOES manage to be double the 1220, this means one hits 116 dB and two hit 122 dB ... WITH ROOM GAIN.

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, The SVS PB12-Plus managed 99 dB at compression @ 16 Hz. Two will hit 105 dB.

For a pair of VTF-3 HO's to hit 126 dB seems ... unlikely. Even in room.

I have 2 of those VTF 3 HO big boys on order. I also wonder what Axiom tastes like. Use one of those big HO braces as a spit for a little Axiom BBQ. MMM tastes like chicken :D

Just face it; the hype score of the HO's is so much better than the Axioms; the Axioms are default losers. If they were a quality sub wouldn't they have been named "The AXE" or something powerful. "Turbo; High Output " HO". The HSU has names that mean power and strength.

Ergo the HO wins. :p

I was dumb enough to show my wife a picture of the DTS-20, forgetting the axiom : It is easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission ...

I tried that with my horizontal 600 but the vibrations resonated in the centre speaker so I don't recommend lying the centre on a big sub especially the 600. :cool:

Now where do these numbers come from? Based on Axiom's own measurements EP-600 could pull out 97.5 dB @ 20 Hz in 4pi. They also showed 100 dB @ 20 Hz in 2pi (GP).

In 4Pi maximum output 107db at 30hz. Note edit.

For what it's worth, I consider the Axiom EP600 to be a very fundamentally sound design. The DSP technology is very nice, and the optional no-cost finish options are nice too. Seriously, let's try to be more open minded.
