Thank you, Tobbeo and Aaron! I appreciate it!

Now I know how to do it better next time, so if my wife asks for a hyper-modern paracube (?), I'll be able to build one.

What are your fronts, looks like you have stacked two speakers?

Here are some pics of my 300+lb beast. It houses two Titanic MkIII 15" drivers. Power is fed by a single 2000W amp which gets it signal from a Feedback Destroyer parametric EQ. The enclosure was originally ported, but I had to move the speaker from it's original location. I found that actually blocking the ports made it sound much better in this new location, So this is how it sits.

Here is a picture of my little Shiva-X. 20" x 27" x 27" box. Currently using old NHT amp, while I try to decide what to power it with. Kevin Haskins recommended 500 watt Bash amp, but I am considering pro amp. My equipment sits in another room, except for this amp since it is temporary.

Very nice Xmax.

How thick are the walls? Do you suffer any flex on the cabinet?

Very professional looking.

I just got my "tiny" A2-300 from eD. It's great!! I love it since, well, I am a noob in the world of audio, specifically BASS

So, i just wanted to comment on this DIY audio porn that I am absolutely LOVING! giving me ideas!!!!!! (and commenting auto subscribes me to this thread!)

Anyways, I got up to page 3 before I just had to say GREAT subs/speakers guys!

Oh, I like metalworking and it's fun to do things different than usual. The sound is the same it would be with wood cases. The surround sound works very well... surround field is large and the rear center cannels sound like they really come from the rear.

Looks great. I'm going to build some slim fronts and metal may help get that sleek look I'm going for. Did you use a plasma cutter and what gauge steel is it?

I used a laser cutter... The material thickness is 2mm.

Thanks, I may tinker with this.

I still need to get the crap off the top of it

My first build. Now that I know what I am doing, I'll try something more....

Twin PR'd Maelstrom-X -- all front firing. It's running off of a PE amp right now and re-tuned to 18hz, but before my EP2500 decided to spooge itself to death trying to hit a low note, the sub was utterly venerable with a much lower tune.

I really did the sub for two reasons:

1) Visual statement; I hate cubes
2) When I was first toying with the idea, NeoDan coined it the "rodeo sub." Well I am both happy and displeased to say that I can't recoup any of my investment by offering rides at reference playback levels because it seems a bit stubborn to move

But I did learn that a good and heavy, well made enclosure with even fully loaded passives won't crap the bed and fall over.

Primarily MDF construction, all the wood trim is of natural color (it's tung oiled Bloodwood), top is .375" gray glass.

Outstanding work Ventoso.

Do you have a build thread for this sub?

Have your neighbors threatened to sue you yet

Really one of the nicest and technically pleasing DIY sub projects I have seen.

As much of the build as I bothered to photograph: http://good-times.webshots.com/album/567843878DMVxXr

That album is missing some of final build stages and finishing because I got into a time crunch around xmas and had a constrained working space, but I can answer any questions.

Watching Black Hawk Down on that thing is like some form of torture. Between the constant abuse of the helo's rotors going WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP and from my girlfriend reminding me about how the sub makes the stove upstairs roll forwards when playing material at volume... Funny, she never complains about the vibrating couch, or the awesome breeze it makes during movies like Iron Man.

You have major league skills!!!!

Thanks for sharing some more photo's of the build. This would be one of the best build threads if you ever decide to start one. I am sure a lot of people around here would love to pick your brain and get ideas.

Great work once again.

Really nice job. I love the color of the wood and the angled front of your box.
Be sure to post pics of the box loaded with your malx's in it's final resting place.

Ventoso -WOW. Really nice.

I would like to try a PR Mael in the future. No issues at all with them forward, nice to know.
I was half expecting to see it hop across the floor or require some form or restraint to just keep it planar after reading some accounts.

However, the boxes included angle between the faces of the PR's is 40 degrees, so that definitely helps to disperse some of PR's momentum in addition to having a static mass of around 450+ pounds. Combine that with a very reasonable center of gravity and a plinth to give it a bit wider footing, and it isn't going anywhere. I can barely even slide it across the carpet when I need to -- most of the time I'm the one that ends up sliding.

I would almost wager that the real key was putting it on the floor in my basement. It's simply carpet over concrete, so there is no give, vibration, or "soft spots." Makes for a wickedly stiff sound, definitely something I would characterize as being tight as a drum.

Oh...my...GAAAWD!

That, is just plain sexy! You should put those into production! How much?

In all seriousness, that is an excellent idea. The fact that you have the center, and all of that other stuff on top of it, just shows what a great job you've done, as it is obvious there are no resonant characteristics from poor bracing.

Something like this would fit right in with my application, seeing as I have a utility closet for all of equipment, and do not have dedicated room.

If you don't mind sharing, what did this build run you, and how long? I am in the process of replacing my setup (the towers shown are part of the new equation, just awaiting for the center and the surround to arrive. Also ordered a cc stand from soundanchors), and the subs will be the last thing to come.
