? Converting Car Sub Woofer box for Home Theater use?  

I've never seen a 14" sub. Standard sizes are 10, 12, 15, 18.

Will it work? Probably not. Those pawnshop subs are not going to use high quality drivers and if they do, the boxes are designed to work in a car and not a home. For example, an older Adire Shiva will work great in a car when mounted in a 1cf box. Recommended home enclosures for the Shiva are 3 to 5 times larger. It's all due to physics and Hoffman's Iron Law.

Well i have 2 (12 inch) MTX thunder subs in a sealed (car type ) encloseure and they hit hard enough for me . IT is cheap, they are abundant , and for an entry level it is great. I am sure ppl will disagree but for the cost a sub is a sub . I use a 100 watt sony reciver to power them thru the sub out and am quite pleased.


Never let someone tell you its too cheap to work .... you gain more valuable experience if nothing else.

If you have the budget to play with and want to learn, then it is great. I know I've gone through my share of Pyramid and Pyle subs.

If you could get a lot of the same sub realy cheap (like 6 to 10) you could make a line array subwoofer. With some eq it might be fun.
