:D I have a picture in my mind of Steve's sonosub "blowing its top" when he finally gets a house, a more powerful amp than his Carvin (say a K2), and is playing WOTW again to see if it will bottom his 18" Avalanche. :D

Not that I am saying it will happen, just funny to think about....

Interesting note on the K series amps - DrJon has mentioned that at the same volume, the K1 seems to lack punch compared to the Carvin - he has them both right now.

So that might be an indication of dynamic power reserve difference versus rated continuous power? I suppose to measure it would require a high wattage load resistor and an oscilloscope. Look for clipping on dynamics. Be interesting to check the total Farads of power supply filter capacitance on each amp. I guess we are wandering OT here.

if you do steve, i most definitely need to see how it turns out. every time i hear those words veneer & sonosub, i automatically visualize Sandmanx's column contruction pictures :rolleyes: absolutely gorgeous. as i posted in Doc's thread......the super models of the cylinder subs......SS-Ultras

I think I'm going the veneer route also. Nothing exotic, since I don't want to pay much if I mess up.

The plan is to start the sub tonight and finish it this weekend. The problem is my first child, a baby boy, is due in 4 weeks and the WAF, isn't that high right now. Funny thing is the child is what started the whole HT process for me. My office is becoming the childs room and my basement is all mine.

Still in studs but close to drywall.

hey jonny....

did the bascore tube come in yet? i spoke with the gentlemen from Precision Sound. seems like a nice guy, but they only carry one size 16"-36", $18 + $20 for shipping. thanks but no thanks. i called a few Masonry Supply Co.'s in the phone book, and they ALL had Sonotubes instock, every diameter and size. called a few Concrete & Construction Supply Co.'s & it was a crapshoot since most didn't have any instock. YMMV.

I found 16"- 12ft. for $40 beans. ten minutes away.

It's getting delivered today.

I went ahead with the 16"x36" because it gives the exact inside volume [edited to correct a mistype here] I need, it's already black, and it looks thicker than the sonotubes I've seen. After shipping it's the same price I'd pay for a 16" or 18" tube from a local place. I'd have to throw away the remainder of a cut sonotube because I have nowhere to store it, so it was a wash. Plus there's no rush since the amp is still on backorder for a few more days.

It just happened that the Bascore tube they had in stock was a perfect fit into my project, so I bought it. I'll post pictures.

sweet.

i was wondering what happened to that picture of the RS-HF comparison with the old sub. i was going to show the wifey for reference (sono=^WAF for me), but it wasn't there. oh, and most, if not all concrete forms are .25" thick, some thicker. the gentleman from PSP said the Bascore's are just wrapped in glossy vinyl.

thanks for that link, i'm trying to decide between the AA Assassin or the Dayton RS-HF. i modeled both in Unibox for 147l sono, and the RS (more$) is looking better by the minute.

Oh OK. The only sonotubes I saw previously were the smallish ones at Home Depot - 12" x 48", and they were much more like 1/8" thick or less. Either way, the Bascore fits what I want just right.

oh yeah those yellow dura tubes are horrible, i think those are for mailboxes, decks etc. and are pretty thin.

I've got one right now. The plan is for a pair of mini-sonosubs using Resonant Engineering RE-8's and a 150w Cerwin Vega surplus amp. It doesn't have to be great since it's going on my 5.1 system on my PC.

cool.....

i thought about using those before, but i could never find a decent piece since 90% of them were beat up in 2 of the home depots near me:( and the biggest was 12" diameter.

12" diameter is all I need. About 2 feet tall gives me 1.4cf (net). Port it with 2" PVC and that little 8" sub with 12mm xmax should do just fine for a PC system.
