The "Official" Denon AVR-2807 Thread - Page 108

Kevin,

Thanks. I'm not an idiot, but I've obviously forgotten how to program the receiver and can't find the manual. How to I turn Component 1 "on"? And how do I "marry" with the audio I plugged arbitrarily into VDP 1? Thanks.

I have the 2907 and run my ipod through a DIY cable. I have run it to the VDP and renamed it to iPod and have also used the AUX I the front. I think it sounds better through the VDP port but not sure.

Does the Denon idock produce better sounds then aux in?

Thx

Go into the System Setup Menu --> Video Setup --> Component In Assign and assign the VDP setting to the correct RCA Component input that you have the XBOX connected to.

Check audio and video assigments for VDP. The entire manual is available on Denon's web site.

The manual is available from Denon's website. Since this is my first post, I can't post the full URL, but the meat of it is

usa.denon.com/AVR-2807-OM-English-EU.pdf

Just paste the line above into a web-browser; it should figure out the rest.

Zone 2 and Different Video & Audio -

So I have two outdoor speakers which I connected to the Surround Sound Back speaker outputs (I believe this is correct). I am able to have the Tuner play to these speakers, but not the TV or DVD sound, which I would like. I would be nice to have different audio going out both the main (5.1 surround) and outdoor speakers. What do I need to do?

Also, if I am watching TV, how do I get other audio to play through the speakers like CD, DVD or Tuner?

Thank you for your help!

I want to connect my DVD player (OPPO DV-981HD) to my receiver and from there to the TV (Sony KDS-60A3000) Does anybody know how to do this, I would appreciate any help. Thanks

HDMI from the DVD to HDMI IN on the receiver, HDMI OUT on the receiver to HDMI IN on the TV

Kevin, I did that but I get nothing....what am I missing?

You need to turn on or assign the HDMI port. Please check your manual on how to do this.

I must be real dumb b/c I can't figure out how to get my projector to display it. I have the component plugged into Component 1, and the Red/White audio cable plugged into VDP.

How do I get my projector to recognize the component video (this is the first peripherial that I've attached via Component).

Thanks. Kids are excited to play XBox on the big screen, but I can't find the manual.

The Denon AVR-2807 Owners Manual is available online in pdf format.

I bought a AVR-987 (open box) and am having some issues with it. Please bear with me since I'm barely over the level of a newbie.

After connecting the speakers, I decided to just see if the radio would work before continuing onto the dvd player, tv, etc. The speakers and subwoofer would not put out any sound (not even a hum). I double checked the connections and tried again - nothing.

I then turned everything off and connected a cd-changer to it and went to see if the cd player would work - nope. I then tried headphones to see if anything would come out and sound did come out of the headphones, but only from the tuner, and not from my cd changer.

Am I doing anything wrong or was this open box purchase a lemon at the store? Does this receiver require specific speaker wire?

Any help/advice would be very appreciated.

Try running the auto setup so the receiver can detect the speakers.
I tried the manual and auto setup and neither worked.
Did you hear the test tones when you ran the setup?
no, I did not. The receiver does recognize the speakers being present since they are listed on the display. Also, even if I turn the volume knob, it does not register it (even w/ the remote).
I'm not sure what the problem could be if you don't hear test tones when you run the auto setup with the microphone. I would think that the auto setup would fail during the speaker detect check if the microphone didn't hear test tones. If all of your connections are speaker connections are good, you followed the auto setup instructions properly and it let you get through the speaker detect without any test tones, I'd suspect something was wrong with the receiver and take it back.
Thank for the advice. Since my purchase was an open box, it actually did not include a setup microphone, so I did the manual setup, and I did not hear any test tones during the manual setup. I'll give Denon's cust. support a call tomorrow and see if they can help and if not - then take it back.

quick Q - since I do not have the setup microphone, can I use any regular microphone that I own?
You can give it a shot. Denon says the mics are specifically calibrated so you'll get different results with a different microphone, but you'll still be able to detect your speakers and you can always tweak your settings.

knightru, im having the same exact problem with my 2308ci unit. So frustrating.

I only can hear sound when i turn the volume ALL the way up to +18, even then its hardly there.

Even tried hooking up only one speaker and then playing the radio in analog.. still nothing. I do however get sound if i switch the receiver to play audio through the TV speakers. So i know my source is working...
Only volume works on my remote. Can do setup at unit, so its okay. How do I
trouble shoot remote, or what am I doing wrong?
Try hitting one of the buttons in gray - like AMP.

Hi, new here and consider myself a novice in AV so any help is great.

The problem - for the past few weeks, Video is delayed using HDMI Monitor ouput to TV. I mean it takes almost 2 minutes before the picture is showing up.

Setup - Denon AVR-2807, a Sony upconversion DVD player, Sharp Aquos LCD. All 9 months old. S-Video from Sony to Denon; digital OPT-4 from Sony to Denon; HDMI Monitor out from Denon to Sharp HDMI in.

I "think" it is the Denon that is causing this deplay and there wasn't any delay time until 3 weeks ago.

There is no delay if I bypassed Denon and just have a direct connection between the DVD and TV.

I also brought a new DVD player and a new HDMI cable and the delay is present as long as Denon is in the equation.

I have not try any other connection from the Denon to Sharp, only the HDMI Monitor out.

Is it the Denon or am I missing something. Nothing has changed so it is very strange that it happens for the past 3 weeks.

Thanks in advance for you help!

In my main entertainment area, I just replaced my 2807 with the 3808, and have moved the 2807 to my kids' playroom, where I have hooked it up to a Sony 34XBR800 TV. The TV is several years old and does not support HDMI -- but it does support DVI. So I hooked up the 2807 to the TV using an HDMI-to-DVI cable. DVI, of course, does not supply any audio, and since the room does not have any free-standing speakers, I was hoping to only use the TV speakers for audio. The TV also only has composite inputs for audio, so I'm haing trouble figuring out how to get audio from the 2807 to the TV. So far, I have picture, but no audio. (And, yes, the TV speakers are set to "on.")

Can anyone tell me where to connect the composite audio cables on the back of the 2807 to enable the audio to go to the TV? And how to configure the 2807 to output in that fashion? I tried using all of the audio-out composite inputs, but nothing seems to be working. Also, the 2807 is not displaying that it's receiving audio from any of my sources. (It displays that it's outputting audio in 5.1, however.) I have a DirecTV HR 20 going into the Denon via HDMI, a PS3 going in via HDMI, a DVD player going in via component and coax, and a VCR going in via composite.

I also tried running the setup on the Denon, but it only seems to support a multi-speaker configuration. So, I'm stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm going to be purchasing either Dali Ikon 6's (6ohm nominal, dip to 4 ohms at times) or Salk SongTowers (4 ohm nominal). Has anyone had any experience pushing 4 or 6 ohm speakers with the 2807 (I already own this)? How about with bi-amping using the surround back channels? Thanks!

You're not going to be able to run the auto setup without speakers connected.

I don't think you have many options without speakers. You might get audio from some the audio out connections (vcr1,vcr2,cd/tape,zone2) for analog signals (audio input to the 2807 through composite cables) but I don't think you'll get any audio for digital signals. You could always use the right and left pre outs, but you'd have to turn your volume up pretty high and it would be ridiculously loud if you switched your tv to a different input without turning down the volume first.
userb,

Thanks for the input. It seems like I need to go buy some speakers if I want to hook everything up through the receiver.

One more question...

If I just buy two speakers (a front left and right), would the auto setup on the Denon still work? Or would I need the whole 5.1 setup (which I really can't accommodate in that room)?
The setup should work fine with 2 speakers.
