Not possible, under normal circumstances. Generally, that means a trip to an authorized Denon facility. Even then, I think they would just replace the EEPROMS.
well mine is out being rebuilt... for the 3rd time. how can i check firmware version when it's back?
I don't know of any place in the menu's that show you the FW level. You could ask the repair shop. I'm not aware of any, but then again - these AVR's are pre "upgradable" units, where new features were able to be added, along with fixing any bugs.

That said, I am also not aware of any bugs in the 2807 line. Amazing, considering how many there were in the later models

Hi all, I just came by a 2807 and am going to use it with a Panasonic plasma, Sony Blu Ray BDP-S550 and a Dish 622 HD DVR, my problem is I cannot get audio with HDMI cable, I have to run digital optical to get audio.
I have assigned audio to "amp" in set up menu, have turned off all optical inputs to try and force audio through HDMI with no luck.
What am I doing wrong here?
HDMI audio is essentially plug-and-play on the Denon. The only thing you have to do is make sure the inputs are assigned correctly (sounds like you have) and make sure input mode is set to "auto" and you are good to go. Are you SURE your devices are actually outputting the audio over HDMI?

I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a cheap 987 (doesn't matter if it is broken)?
Thanks,
RabidBunny
considering it's now a 3-year-old model, you will have to just keep your eye on ebay, craigslist, and audiogon. The used market is pretty much your only chance. I would expect to pay $300ish for a nice used 987/2807.

Here is an ebay search:
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...8987%2C2807%29

You could also check Denon refurb dealers like Dakmart and Ecost.
Features are nice, but really I want the most pristine sound I can get out of my Klipsch SR-92's ... need an audio buff to help me decide what the best amp for these speakers is.

I find the Onkyo TX-NR807 and Denon 2809ci are about the same price range.

Thanks

Can I use the calibration mic from an AVR-4308 to recalibrate a AVR 2807?
no, you must use the model DM-S205 or DM-S305 for the 2807. the new "tower" style mics do not have the same calibration profile as the old "puck" shaped one that came with your 2807.
quick question.. i have denon 2807 running my 5.1 system.. was thinking of putting some speaker out by the pool and was wondering if the denon 2807 accomodate this.. My main question would be..... can we put music channels on direct tv and listen to them outside on different speakers.... i am not sure if the 2807 can handle diff. zones in this way.. if this is not possible.. what denon could handle this... Also would someone be watching tv in the family room and while someone else was listening to the radio in the pool...??? thanks for the help..
yes, your Denon has Zone 2 capabilities. check your manual
post #3644 of 4049
Since you are in a 5.1 mode you can use the output to the surround back speakers. Then you will be able to have variable volume control. I output to a Speakercraft speaker selctor and adjust the volume a little high there and then I can back off anything in Zone 2 as needed. It will, of course, affect everything in Zone 2 but that works fine if you set the volume limits up right. We love being out on the porch listening to the iPod while our children are watching a movie in surround sound. I just wish the iPod screen would output to the Zone 2 monitor.

Good Luck

I just purchased a 2807 floor model from Magnolia at a really good price. They didn't have the original remote so they gave me an old used remote. They also gave me a DM-A409 mic. Does this mean the mic won't work? If it won't work with the 2807, what are my alternatives? Thanks in advance for your help.
Not only will the mic not work, but most likely a few of the buttons on "the old" remote won't work either. You can generally find mics on eBay or Craigs list ($20) or possibly even calling Denon directly for it. If you do have issues with the remote, you may want to invest in a Harmony remote and download the Denon data base (see bp's sig).
FYI - the correct microphone for that model is the "puck" shaped style, either DM-S205 or DM-S305 (the only difference is one has a plastic base and the other is metal).

I would agree that spending money on a different Denon factory remote is silly, you can get a Harmony 520 or 670 model for $50 these days on ebay/amazon....

jdsmoothie, batpig,

Thanks for your helpful responses. You've definitely saved me from a potential migraine and wasted holidays in trying to use the DM-A409 with this receiver. The Sales rep is seeing if he can find a DM-S205 or DM-S305 in the back. Will be checking back with him today. If not, I'll get one on eBay or Craigs list as suggested. I totally agree with both of your comments on the remote.

I am trying to connect a Denon 1930CI DVD player, via a Denon AVR-2807 receiver to a Optoma HD70 projector. Player is connected to HDMI-1, audio and video for "DVD" are assigned to HDMI-1. HDMI-out is connected to projector. This is what happens:

1) Projector power off = audio works through AVR
2) Projector power on = HDMI input signal switches off; no audio or video
3) DVD player connected "straight" to Projector (HDMI) = video works
4) DVD player connected straight to Projector (HDMI), audio via 6 RCA cables to "EXT-IN" = audio works in addition to video, but then I have to rearrange HDMI plugs to watch anything else

( I also have a Dish-Network DVR-722 connected to HDMI-2, which works via the AVR. DVR also works "straight" connected HDMI. )

I have tried a LOT of various settings in the AVR set up menu.

PLEASE HELP !!
This is most likely a HDMI handshake issue. One fix is to unplug your components and power cycle your system (turn everything OFF and unplug). This may reset the authentication cycle and restore your connection. Otherwise you can just skip HDMI from the DVD player and use component with optical (or coax) to the 2807 and HDMI from the 2807 to the projector.
Hoping the forum can help. I added a Wii to the 2807 using the component video. Reading the manual it seemed like the inputs needed to be addressed individually. I was unable to add the Wii and now the DVD player is no longer available when I search for sources. Set up as follows

Samsung monitor - connected via HDMI out
Denon DVD/SCAD - connected via HDMI in + 6 cable surround sound audio 5.1
Camcast cable box - coax from street in, coax to samsung out
Wii - connected through component video/audio in

The system was originally installed by the folks I purchased the equipment from so I'm a real newbie at this.
First not sure why you have both HDMI and mult-channel analog from the DVD player to the 2807 unless analog is the only way to get the SACD output? Also, the Comcast box doesn't seem to be connected to the 2807? What source name are you using for the Wii? You must use the same source name you have the analog audio cables plugged in to, then make sure that RCA-1/COMP1 (if that's the plug you're using) is selected for that source as well. Some folks get confused and select RCA-3 because they think there are 3 RCA cables, however, that is actually the 3rd component input jack, with RCA-1 being the first one and RCA-2 being the second.
So I do need to individually "address" each video input? There's no auto recognition? And to do that I need to follow the advanced setup instructions?
As for the Comcast feed, I gather it would be better to run the cable box output into the AVR? I appreciate the advice.
I don't mind answering your questions as long as you don't mind answering mine as well.

(1) There should be no reason to have both analog and HDMI coming from your DVD player as SACD can transfer over HDMI. Why do you have both connections?

(2) Your current Comcast connection directly to the TV is fine as long as you don't ever want to use the surround speakers, although I'm surprised you wouldn't use them for movies at least by connecting an optical cable from the box to the 2807. If your box is a HD cable box you would be able to pass DD 5.1 to the surround speakers and even if it's simply a SD box, the 2807 would still use DD PLII to simulate 5.1 surround through your speakers.

(3) You do need to address each source if you're not using the default connections that the Denon 2807 has already set up. HDMI, component, and optical connections are assignable whereas the composite video and RCA audio are not which is why you must use whatever source name you have the Wii RCA cable plugged in to for your Wii source name.
Why, I don't know as the vendor set up the connections originally. Could it be that HDMI cannot carry 5.1/7.1 or SCAD audio?
As for the comcast connection, again this was their tech's connection and I did see that the surround sound audio dropped off, I get stereo sound but no SW or rear sound. So an audio connection to the 2807 can fix that? Or would it be more efficient to connect the comcast box to the 2807 via HDMI and drop the coax connection to the Samsung.
The Wii was plugged into the component video/audio not the composite. So
post #3656 of 4049
1. As of Aug 2005, SACD was added to the HDMI spec 1.2; however, if your DVD player is older than that, then that is why you also have the analog cables attached.

2. Yes. An optical or HDMI connection from the Comcast box to the 2807 can bring you surround sound.

3. The audio IS composite. What audio jacks is the Wii RCA cable plugged in to?

It would help if you provided the Denon source names (eg. DVD, VDP, DBS) you are using and what you have their Input settings set at.

I was able to get a hold of a DM-S205 on eBay and have finished the auto setup . It set my speakers to large, so I manually changed them to small and set the crossovers to 80Hz. It was a bit painful since the old remote they gave me didn't work at all!! After the setup, there was no sound from my subwoofer. It turned out that this was because the auto setup set the subwoofer volume to -12dB. I've figured out how to change this to +12dB using the button at the center of the direction pad. However, I have to do this for every source and mode. Is there an easy way for me to set the subwoofer volume to +12dB globally?
Yes, there is an easier way. Whenever you get a +/-12 for any of the speakers (although seen most often with the sub) you must rerun AUTO SETUP. In the sub's case it's much easier to adjust as there is a volume knob on the sub. If you followed the setup procedures correctly, you set the sub's volume knob to the 12 o'clock position. Because the Denon set the sub at -12db it means the sub is too loud, so back the sub volume knob back to about 10 o'clock and rerun AUTO SETUP. You should find the 2807 adjusts the sub trim downward (closer to 0) and therefore you won't have to adjust it manually aftwards as you're doing now.

I have a denon DVD-3800BDCI blu-ray player hoooked up to the 2807 through HDMI. I have the player do the HD audio processing and send out the signal has PCM to the receiver.

The receiver displays "Multi CHannel in" How do i know i am getting the best sound with this config? When i cycle through the display its says PCM 44khz, is this the best? I thought i may get 96 or something like that.

Just want to see how others implement this with there blu-ray players since the 2807 doesnt process TrueHD or DTS-MA.

Thanks

Please provide details!

There should be no audible difference whether the BDP does the decoding or the AVR does it.
