are you gonna buy the Samsung BR player at launch?
I voted no. Will get the Sony I think.
I voted... "No, Im waiting til the PS3 ships." ...since the price is suppose to be around $1,000.

I will buy which ever comes first... Playstation 3 or a $500 (quality) Blu-ray player.

I'm going to wait until the Sony deck arrives and then decide.

Ditto

At first I thought the Samsung player was butt-ugly, I don't like that Panasonic type front end. But after a closer look at a better picture I would like to see it in person and compare it to the Sony if possible. I definitely like the look of the Samsung Recorder/Player.

Let me know when a $500 stand alone blu-ray player arrives. right now my only choice is PS3 if i want an affordable blu-ray player.

ditto. i'm not adverse to buying/owing a Bd player- i just won't pay more than $500 for it (same with HD DVD).

come fall i will be looking and if there are no good Bd players at a sub $500 price, then i will be looking for a HD DVD player for under $400, and if there is one buy that...and then just wait until Bd hits that price point.

i would prefer a player from JVC or Panasonic. i wasn't a fan of Sonys DVD players.

i should mention that anything i buy (either format) should be high performance DVD player as well, otherwise i will pass. that aspect will ensure that neither become 'paperweights'.

I intend to do BD just like DVD and go with a Sony out of the gate unless a Panny sneaks in with a good price and feature set. Not concerned with burning on 1st gen either.

Will have my HD DVD Toshiba at the end of March though. Not thrilled with that purchase, never been a fan of Toshiba's decks though I like their TVs.

I'm a wait and see kind of guy...I want a decent selection of movies and players before making an investment in a new tech.

Nope, im going Sony!
No, I'll be getting the Pioneer Elite.
I will buy a blu-ray player, but that will be none of the already announced, including PS3.
Sony all the way...
Sony.
Will the Sammie (or another) be able to output SD-DVDs at 480i HDMI?
I'm going with the Sammie. I need my Blu-Ray.
Ps3.
Nope!
I'll wait for the Sony BDP-S1. ;)
I believe I saw that the Philips BDP9000 will have 5.1 analog audio outputs as well, which is part of my feature requirements for my next player purchase.
It all depends on the Sony player's release date and price. I will eventually buy a Pioneer Elite, just not their first one. :)
Sony or Pioneer Elite.

Maybe I will get Best Buy to sell (lend) me a Samsung for 29 days so I can start my Blu Ray software buying early ;)
I will actually wait until the prices come down on the players, but will start my collection of Blu-Ray dvd's when they come out

I won't buy either format unless it has HDMI version 1.3. I plan on upgrading my sound system as well as next gen format DVD drive at the same time. I have had terrible experiances with Sony and Sammy DVD drives. I have had excellent performance from Panny and Tosh products. Pioneer, JVC, Sanyo, Emerson are the same repackaged garbage. People should just take $1800.00 in cash from their wallets, take a Bic lighter and burn it. Good luck with that purchase.

Perfectly understandable.

Can anyone here even begin to take statements like these seriously?

Oh well, thanks for giving me a good night chuckle, if nothing else.

Same here. 1K is just too much for limited expensive disks.

I don't like to nitpic, but so far only 8 sells? I thought this camp had more end-user support then the competition. Not by these numbers, not even close.

Most, if you can't already tell, don't want the Samsung name, much like the Toshiba name....its pretty much mud as far as quality sd dvd players go.

If it looks as if the Sony ect player are a ways off when the Samsung is actually up for sale, I will probably just buy one to get things started , and sell it when the player I actually want, gets released.

I voted no, but may end up saying yes ;)

By your logic, you can put panasonic under the "repackaged garbage" category also since they and JVC, if I understand correctly, are part of the same company.
