How I Met Your Mother - CBS HD

Anyone watch this show? The PQ is as good as it gets. One of the more funny shows out there IMO. Barney gets me every time.

i agree...one of the better new shows this season...with the exception of 1 or 2 clunkers, most of the episodes have been pretty entertaining...after watching shows like Scrubs, Arrested Development, etc...it's hard for me to get into ones that have laugh tracks, but i think How I Met Your Mother is really funny. NPH as Barney is always hysterical and i've always thought Jason Segel was funny...even in Dead Man on Campus, which was a departure from his HIMYM and Freaks & Geeks roles.

the Ted character can get a little annoying though...but just when he really starts to grind on me, they throw in more Barney .

btw, i think you're right...the PQ is one of the best in primetime.

How is this show doing in the ratings? I havent seen much about it in the "Breaking news" thread that usually list the ratings of the shows. Anyone know?

Last night was great . Though I really wanted to hear the story about the hot tub. NPH makes this show for me frankly. There have been 1 or 2 that fell a little flat, but I think it's maturing nicely. The one where Lilly and Ted were in the bathroom was classic

I thought this show was awful at first. The only reason I was watching it was to support Buffy alum Allyson Hannigan (Bones and Kitchen Confidential are/were also on my viewing slate for the same reason) and Neal Patrick Harris (after his great performance in Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle).

But now the show is getting better. The laugh track is distracting since, like last night, there are several funny moments when they don't use it, but instead wait until the end of jokes. Usually, the lead-ups to the punchlines are infinitely funnier than the punchlines themselves. I really dislike being told when to laugh: we recognize what's funny a lot more than those producers.

NPH makes the show, and last night he was a star! Ted almost always annoys me, although now that he's getting some he's much less tiresome.

And yes: this show has one of the highest-quality HD feeds on TV right now.

There is only one reason to watch this show other than its fine PQ - Cobie Smulders

It's doing decent. Last nights show scored 6.3/9 (6.3% of US where watching it and 9% of people watching TV in US watched it or roughly 7million viewers.) which is decent for a 30min comedy. It should stick around for a while.

I've watched it a few times and I'm trying to like it but can't say I do yet. The joke last night with the "leg to stand on" part was about the most unfunny thing I can remember. And the characters all start laughing trying to make it seem funny as if they're trying to sell it. You can tell that was the big joke of the night and they were really hoping people would be talking about it over the watercooler the next day. I got the sense it was a very "Friends" attempt at the whole "Pot, this is kettle, your black" thing which made it even un-funnier.

And funny you mention about the laugh track...I NEVER notice the laugh track on shows, even the blatantly bad ones, and I was just thinking when watching it the past 2 times how distracting the laugh track was. I don't know it seems to not be there sometimes, it is there sometimes, it's badly placed other times. I just seems really wierd. Funny to see someone else commenting about the same thing.

i watched this show ever since it was plugged by the folks on the TVguide channel podcast.. all the shows they have recommended to check out this season are winners, including this one. Yes i also find the laugh track annoying but the cast chemistry has me tuning in every week.

I also find the "how i met your mother" prologue where ted of the future is telling the story to his kids very annoying.

I love this show too, mainly for Allyson Hannigan and NPH. The other characters aren't bad, but those two really carry the show.

The picture quality is really good too. I am just pissed because I somehow deleted my recording last night and only saw about 5 minutes of the show.

Hopefully, I will catch it on reruns sometime.

I absolutely love this show. They come up with some very clever stuff. Last night I think was the best ever. I love the general premise of how the dad is telling this to his kids.

Perhaps the best new show of this season. At least in the comedies.

NPH is the best in the show and I think the whole ensemble has really good chemistry.

I really wanted to like this show because "Willow" from Buffy was in it. After watching sitcoms such as Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm , Sex & The City , Scrubs and other comedies without a laugh track its just impossible for me get into any show with a laugh track. Not having a laugh track doesn't guarantee that I will watch but having one means I wont even give the show the time of day.

I wonder if there is some device that can remove laugh tracks...
All of this laugh-track talk reminds me of one of the funniest shows of all time, and how it was cancelled. "Police Squad!" (In Color) was a riot, but ABC bagged it after six episodes because the producers refused to add a laugh track. ABC execs reasoned that their audience consisted of people too ignorant to determine for themselves what was funny. That's pitiful.

For a show that tries to remain in the sitcom mold rather than shatter it (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development) HIMYM is very funny, and has a fantatstic cast whose chemistry has really gelled. Love it...

Best show on tv right now.IMO

Seen every one. Good stuff. Not your run-of-the-mill sitcom. And the PQ is outstanding.

the "leg to stand on" was not the killer app for this ep, the "marshgammon" was.
oh yeah and i dont hear the laugh track must be the "joe 6 pack" in me.

What about Ashley Williams? I've been a big fan of hers since Snow.

I like this one too, though it is occasionally hit or miss. But the current one with NPH's character's evolution was particularly well done. And with an ending you wouldn't expect. At least I didn't. Good stuff.

Cobie Smulders is definitely hot.

Do you have a subconscious hatred of Bob Saget?

i have a conscious hatred of the Olsen twins. and also, Seinfeld has a laugh track but very few people complained that it distracted from the genius of that show.
Unless, like me, you found Seinfeld to be excrutiatingly painful to watch and about as funny as a hangover. But maybe that was just the laugh track distracting me from the genius.

nobody complained because every show had a laugh track back then correct?

I was watching it on WJZ-DT in Baltimore on Comcast Cable last night and had more audio dropouts than normal. One specific one was when Ted was talking to Victoria and she gave him the cupcake, it dropped out when she was talking. This is the first time they showed the scene. It was fine the second time. Anyone else have problems?

I was watching it off my DVR and I seem to have more dropouts when watching recordings than live TV so that might be cause too.

Was fine for me last night. I thought it was funny, but not as funny as last week. The line where he tells the kids "And that's exactly what we did..." was pretty good. I thought the cattiness was a little overdone but funny. The wedding dress disaster was good, I actually didn't see that coming.
